Hello: Jake Rudock
[Patrick Barron]
It didn't take long for "Rudock waiver approved" to go to "Rudock to Michigan." ESPN's Dan Murphy:
Confirmed that Jake Rudock plans to be at Michigan next fall. Story coming soon.
— Dan Murphy (@DanMurphyESPN) April 1, 2015
Rudock's 2014 stats were briefly addressed in the previous post: 61%, 7.1 YPA, 16:5 TD:INT. He faltered late and was pulled from the lineup for CJ Beathard, not that Beathard did much to inspire confidence himself. If the Rudock problems are Rudock problems then Michigan has a meh starter—still a huge win. If they are Greg Davis/Kirk Ferentz paleolithic goober offense problems, Rudock could be one of the better quarterbacks in the league next year and help the Harbaugh era off to a good start. Either way it's a massive relief.
Meh starter is currently a big upgrade. Especially meh starter who throws 5 INT a year. Rudock will not win you a game. But he generally won't lose you one either. Very happy.
This team will go as far as the run offense takes them either way IMO - this just opens up the passing game more.

Good article from Iowa's Scout site that detail's Iowa's QB "competition" last year:

YES!!!!
Fascinating. It seems like Rudock got screwed.
A guy on Twitter is saying he was even better than his stats. Two of his interceptions were due to fallen receivers.
We keep benefiting from other people's stupidity.
Thankfully, there's a lot of stupid people.
Glad to see it all worked out. I'm still a bit lower on him than it seems others are, but he should be a competent starter who can compete against Morris and Malzone for reps. I do wonder if he'll be able to wrest about the starting spot, but that's a good problem to have right now I guess.
The bigger issues remains at WR. Practice buzz and all, I'm not sure if there is anyone coming back who is a clear #1 who can help whoever is the QB get the ball downfield quickly. But again, for now at least they have a competent starter in the wings.
during summer camp if Morris, Speight or Malzone are as good or better than a senior B1G QB. If they're, then Rudock will be a good backup QB. If they're no where close to Rudock, at least we will have a good competent QB this season.
The QB competition was something I was choosing to ignore out of fear.
as has been previously stated, at the very least a competent experienced QB that doesnt make mistakes. Besides the questionable coaching that Rudock recieved at Iowa there is the matter of talent which is better at M. If you don't believe that go watch the Taxslayer bowl highlights where Tenn dismantled Iowa. Also what I like is that Harbaugh will leave no stone unturned to ugrade/improve the team, mining players from where ever he can get them. Something that just seemed to never happen over the past 15 years.
"Game Manager", so Jake Rudock = Alex Smith?
Now Harbaugh has what he needs. Yes!
Smith was a Heisman finalist but yeah other than that 1 small point he and Rudock could be twins. ;)
This seems to be a Muppet-worthy turn of events... to me anyway. Why you no like Muppets anymore, Brian?

Overall, it sounds as though the fan base was a little frustrated with him for being so conservative with throwing down the field as opposed to checking down so consistently, but the article also notes the OL should have taken some heat.
OTOH, the Rivals Iowa guy says "on the field, he did exactly what the coaches wanted," which suggests the checkdowns were part of the OC plan.
He sounds like a great kid, by the way. If Harbaugh gets a 3am phone call, he can probably go ahead and think to himself, "welll, it's safe to say this isn't about Jake Rudock."
Whoo Hoo! We got us our own One-and-Done.
Suck it, Kentucky.

We don't have a '97 defense but people called Greise a game manager, and after all the turnovers we've had from the QB position since Henne left, this will be a welcome change.
Like it has been said, the ceiling may not be higher with this team, but the floor is and that is a calming feeling.
Can't wait to see what the kid can do in this system.
Rushing Stats 2014
Rudock 67 Carries for 176 Yards (2.6 avg.) with 3 TDs and a longest carry of 21 yards.
Gardner 98 Carries for 258 Yards (2.6 avg.) with 4 TDs and a longest carrt of 25 yards.
These stats probably include sacks, but those are similar rushing stats. Then throw in the better passing stats with fewer picks, I am excited.
