Hello: Jake Rudock
[Patrick Barron]
It didn't take long for "Rudock waiver approved" to go to "Rudock to Michigan." ESPN's Dan Murphy:
Confirmed that Jake Rudock plans to be at Michigan next fall. Story coming soon.
— Dan Murphy (@DanMurphyESPN) April 1, 2015
Rudock's 2014 stats were briefly addressed in the previous post: 61%, 7.1 YPA, 16:5 TD:INT. He faltered late and was pulled from the lineup for CJ Beathard, not that Beathard did much to inspire confidence himself. If the Rudock problems are Rudock problems then Michigan has a meh starter—still a huge win. If they are Greg Davis/Kirk Ferentz paleolithic goober offense problems, Rudock could be one of the better quarterbacks in the league next year and help the Harbaugh era off to a good start. Either way it's a massive relief.

As Brian said, this is a massive relief. Our biggest question mark just changed dramatically: our floor at the QB position is a competent B1G starter. If Rudock doesn't win the job this fall, it's because we have a pretty darn good alternative.
This is amazing news, and pushes my win prediction to 9.
Welcome to the family, Jake. GO BLUE!
"But we are excited about an Iowa cast-off."
An OSU was excited to have their 3rd string QB start their final game of the season. Perspective is everything.
For now, yes, you are correct, there were plenty of years where we wouldn't even want an Iowa "cast-off".. I understand both perspectives.. But lets go bright side, glass half-full here.. The floor argument about at LEAST having a competent B1G starter is the right perspective.. It gives us a measuring stick. Without Rudock, its a guessing game as to where other QB's should be and when they are ready.
but this is huge for 2015, even if rudock is just a one year band aid. it buys JH another full year to develop all of those frosh QBs into competent big ten players.
GREAT prank Iowa, Michigan, ESPN, and the Big Ten front office. You really got us on that one. Way to work together.
Epic.
first big get for Harbaugh
Zach Gentry is offended... as are a bunch of other guys like TWJ and O'Korn, the list is actually pretty impressive for 3 months of work and people having to change their plans/life
That makes no sense. Gentry will be a true freshman who hasn't stepped on campus. O'Korn can't play this season anyways. You do realize that this is a 1-year stop-gap, correct?
Yeah I get it... but do you get that this was in response to a poster stating that this was Harbaugh's first big get?
I was simply saying that there have been a number of other acquisitions since Harbaugh got here.
$20 says you are reading way more into that than they are. Even if the freshmen QBs do feel undervalued, I would hope their response is to work harder, not sulk.
You don't get it. He was being sarcastic.
dude...how?
How do I go about collecting my $20?
a mediocre to good two year B1G starter > a backup from the AAC > a true freshman
Rudock will be gone before O'Korn is even eligible.
Okay I'm biting... this is some great news!
Now that we've enjoyed that for a moment; Queue the scholarship and attrition questions...
When did Dennis Norfleet play for Clarkston?
whuddup go wolves alma mater up ^

I'm just waiting for some knucklehead to post this on the board, even though Brian did it on the main page first.
Looking at my phone around 2:00, I saw a CBS post that Rudduck was coming and ran to my computer to post on the board. When I went to source the story the only article I could find was the B1G waiver on CBS and gave up. If not for that, I would have that guy.
on what courses he'll be enrolling in?
[insert play school joke]
He's not coming here just to play football.
Michigan has a one year post-baccalaurate research program that's designed to strengthen a student's application to doctoral programs. That's his likely destination.
Seems like - as Brian previously noted - it raises our confidence in whoever wins the starting job from "this is the best of what we got" to "this guy should be a decent B1G starter"
If so, that seems like a great situation for a grad transfer with a season plus of game experience.
His core competency is accurate passing. I like that.
type of QB we need to have a very good season this year - an accurate, game-manager who doesn't turn the ball over much. Our running game should be much better, special teams will be a lot better, and the defense should be good. Now, we'll see if he can beat out the other guys we already have.
My only concern is whether a guy like Rudock has what it takes to beat the OSU's of the world. Of course, that's a standing question for all of our available QBs so at least we'd have a guy with some game experience.
"My only concern is whether a guy like Rudock has what it takes to beat the OSU's of the world."
I'll be happy with a Qb that has what it takes to beat Utah, Minnesota, Rutgers, and Maryland at this point.
Seriously. OSU will probably be ranked #1 or #2. If our standard for a one-and-done QB is that he has to beat the #1 or #2 team in the country or he's a failure . . . well then you can go ahead and fire about 120 CFB QBs.
We lost JMFR and our DEs but Jake the Mike was a project and DE play has muddled along as decent -- neither weakness nor strength. And we were still pretty good. Durkin and Mattison have worked together, Peppers is healthy, Mattison's back as DL coach, the defense is loaded with experience and Greg Jackson's secondaries at SanFran were scary good.
Honestly this transfer is great news but I don't expect the offense to carry the day. There are a lot of questions on offense, mostly variations of just how quickly they can pick up the new system given Harbaugh's staff have said they're starting over. The defense is picking up right where they left off with several coaching upgrades.
Agreed. Which is why offense does not have to carry the day. Which is why Rudock, a competent, predictable QB is just what the Doctor ordered.
We don't need to be Boise State in 2015. We need to be Wisconsin.
Instead of Jake from State Farm, we got Jake from Iowa. I hear he wears khakis, too. Sounds good to me.

That's the product of an Iowa offense under Ferentz. There are quotas to be met, but not surpassed.
Coach has filled up a corral of QB stallions and is looking for the best one to bust out on September 3rd. In Harbaugh we Trust.
