Hello: Ambry Thomas
MI CB Ambry Thomas, the #2 player in the state, just announced his commitment to Michigan:
Thomas is the #3 CB and #31 overall player in the country to 247; he's 5th and 58th, respectively, on Scout. The other two services have him around 200th. Sam Webb on Thomas:
"I think he is a taller, faster version of Jourdan Lewis. He is an excellent bump and run defender. He has great feet, loose hips, recovery speed, and tremendous ball skills. Lewis was better technically at the same stage of development, but Thomas is more physical."
Michigan now has commits from 5 of the top 8 players in the state and hopes to add Donovan Peoples-Jones and Deron Irving-Bey in the near future.
A full post is coming tomorrow.

But didn't they play against each other recently, and DPJ won that battle? It's hard to believe he's the beter football player now if DPJ was able to beat him. I'm just glad that the two of them will only have to face each other on the practice field from now on. Steel sharpens steel.

King lost a lot to graduation and had sophmores & juniors all through the starting lineup. King actually overachieved this past year, with Lowell being the popular choice to win the Div. 2 State Title. DPJ is gonna get his numbers but Ambry had a bigger impact in all 3 phases.

Already got JKP and Ambry. Looking forward to the next few weeks. I can't remember the last time Michigan expected so many early enrollees, especially of the caliber that should be coming in. Think about it, DPJ, Isaiah Wilson, Cesar Ruiz, and Chuck Filiaga, among others. I know Harris is a long shot, but hey, Harbaugh got the first ever consensus number 1 player in the country, so who knows?
This offensive line haul could be one for the ages.
Garret Fishaw has a nice expected commit list:

the staff. What a thrill for the cousins to play together and enjoy some years together in A2.
Building a great secondary with the last 2 classes. Go Blue!

Fast and physical. Our defensive secondary will be a lockdown secondary. Look forward to watching him play at Michigan.

I agree with this in a big way. I was actually pretty disappointed with QB play in the Big Ten this year, even though it's the best conference in the country right now. J.T. Barrett is probably the best QB in the conference, but he's not an outstanding pocket passer. Otherwise, you're looking at guys like Trace McSorley and Wilton Speight being among the best in the conference. MSU, Rutgers, Maryland, Purdue, Wisconsin, etc. all are in bad shape. I guess Indiana's okay with Lagow, but I think the Big Ten used to have a few high-quality college QBs every year.

we need depth in DB right now, and he looks like he could pan out to eventually fill that Jourdan Lewis-sized hole that will unfortunately be in all of our hearts come January.

MSU missed out on the #2 recruit in the state of Michigan. I wonder if they will have better luck with 3-9....I couldn't resist!!!

Harbaugh's doing wonders. Next year is going to be one of the younger Michigan teams in a LONG time. With a really solid 2016 recruiting class and what looks like it will be a superb 2017 recruiting class, next year should be really interesting. Can we figure out enough to at least get back to double-digit wins? If we do, Harbaugh could very well have an Urban-like first 5 years at Michigan, with double-digit win seasons every year. And 2 playoff appearances wouldn't hurt either.

Nice to see the board debating whether or not a recruit is as good as or better than one of the best Wolverines we've seen in a long time. Bodes well for the future. Welcome, Ambry

I'm excited for this commitment. Ambry seemed like the biggest question mark of the highly sought after in-state player, so to secure his commitment is huge. It scares me that we're losing a lot of leadership in the secondary with Jabrill and Jourdan, but I'm hoping that the next generation pushes each other to be great like those two pushed everyone.

RCMB has lost it.
"He got torched by DPJ, he's not that good."
Someone responded: "DPJ is probably the best WR recruit in the state since Rogers. And Thomas won't have to worry about him except on the practice field."
"DPJ will be the next 5 star bust at Michigan. Green, Kalis, Peppers (who plays like a low 4 star) and Gary (who I heard is already looking like a bust in his limited playing time) have done nothing."
Jesus christ Sparty. Cry some more.

Overall? No, still about ten guys after DPJ... In Detroit specifically, yes. Him, Ambry and JKP were the best 3 players in the city of Detroit.

Deron Irving-Bey is also a possibility within the state.

Yep, we're in very good shape going forward. That's why I think some of the hand-wringing about Michigan recruiting is funny. We won't top Ohio State like some people want, but we should be just behind them.
