Evan Link Has Committed to Michigan Comment Count

Seth August 1st, 2022 at 11:20 AM

The first of post-BBQ pledges has dropped, and it's most welcome:

As the bio reads, this is a 6'6"/290 OT prospect with a 4.22 GPA and the exact graphic you want to see in a lineman's media preview:

He's currently a 4-star who broke into the top-300 of the composite earlier this summer and took visits to Penn State and Stanford before and after his official to Michigan in June.

His junior highlights show an athlete who likes getting out in space and has much quicker feet than his competition. Caveat: the competition is the Virginia side of DC high school-caliber. Still, this is what you want to see from a tackle prospect, and his quick rise up the rankings over this summer's camp season suggests the schools he visited liked the measurements. We'll get up a full hello this week.

Congrats young man.  You have just devoted every day of the rest of your life to mauling DE's from the most corrupt college football school not in a former Confederate state.

I was warned that the link I had to click on to see the photo had potentially "sensitive content." Then I see the young man holding a football. Is this sensitive content for future competition? Obviously Internet filters never lie...

"Caveat: the competition is the Virginia side of DC high school-caliber."

Huh??

He plays at Gonzaga, which is in DC and plays in the same league as De Matha, Our Lady of Good Counsel and St. John's. St. John's and DeMatha are nationally ranked schools that consistently put out P5 talent and Our Lady of Good Counsel has been known to put out D1 talent as well.

I think you're selling his competition level a bit short Seth.  While WCAC hoops is better known and is arguably the strongest prep conference in the nation, they're also no slouch at football.  St. Johns, DeMatha, Good Counsel and Carroll are perennial regional powerhouses with top level talent.

Don't look now but this class is up to 27th in the composite and now has hit the all important 50% threshold of blue chips amongst non-kickers (blue chips defined as four or five stars).

With six four stars already (out of 12), they're only one behind the 2018 class that had seven four stars out of 19 non kickers.

Nice little run here in the past month or so.  Things are going to be just fine people.

Just as Brian, Seth, and Sam are pretty straightforward on Thursday morning it's okay to admit we missed out on some of our primary options and some of that was due to how our NIL is structured. I think it's also fair to say that given our self imposed limitations we are doing quite well all things considered. I'm confident we'll have a top 20 class but less confident it will be top 10. We'll likely have quite a few high level contributors but also probably have missed out on a few difference makers. I'm super high on last year's class so if we can plug the few holes there like OL, RB, and QB we'll be in really good shape even if this year is a bit of dip.
