We can avoid the Michigan Hat Trick of Bad Coaching Decisions this time around. It would be nice to be the Leaders and Best at something else football related.

Someone mentioned his contract on a previous thread and I'm not sure why people get wrapped up in that. I don't care how much he got paid. The last 3 years wouldn't be any more acceptable had Hoke been one of the lowest paid coaches in CFB. Bottom line is he couldn't win football games so he had to go. Now I just hope they find the best coach they can who can win football games. That's all that matters. I don't give a rat's ass whether he's a "Michigan Man" or not.

I am not sad to see Brady go.  I was one who had high hopes when he was first hired but as time wore on, i could no longer support him.

Now bring on the Jim and/or John era!

I, like many others, knew that Brady Hoke wasn't good enough of a head coach for this job. The past three seasons have proven that beyond a shadow of a doubt. We knew this day would come and so it has.

This day is not for celebrating the downfall of Brady Hoke, but a day of celebrating the cleansing from Michigan the residue of Dave Brandon.  Brady Hoke cannot be blamed for taking the job. Who in his position wouldn't?

Dave Brandon must be blamed for hiring an underqualified coach in the first place. Dave Brandon was the Matt Millen of Michigan football. Oh, sure, he did great things for other sports. But in the one sport he actually played he fouled it so badly that it now sits at it's lowest point since Bump Elliott was dismissed.

He's a good dude and a good recruiter.  It's just a damn shame he couldn't put all the pieces together.  I for one am happy he's gone as I can't take any more sub .500 seasons but also sad in the fact that I don't think it was due to lack of effort.  Sometimes it's just not there, not much else you can say.

I initially had my doubts, but drank the kool aid and thought he could do the job with Mattison and Borges in tow.  But even in his 11-2 season, the team wasn't Michigan football.  I was never confident they could score despite some crazy numbers from time to time.

I think I need to take some vacation until the next coach is hired.  I can't take another process.

Feels like you broke up with a girl who was nice but just not going to be marriage material. You feel awful doing it but better once you ended it. Then the worry and panic sets in as you wonder "will I really find someone better and what if my dream girl isn't out there".

So I want to echo the sentiment that I sincerely feel for Hoke, but this is the right decision because he's not getting paid to be a nice guy.

My stupid (or obvious) question though: how did this go wrong? We did this for RR and the answer was easy (defense, cultural backlash, etc) but what was it for Hoke? In over his head explains the ST disasters and the Morris fiasco. Brandon micromanagement explains some of it. But how does a hands-off manager, who hires excellent coordinators and fills his team with talent, do such a poor job of winning football games and developing those players? Really what I'm asking is - how did Nuss do such a poor job with the offense, and how did Mattison never see the D take the step from "above average" to "good," let alone "great" or "elite?"

....what did you expect?

When you strip away the layers of politics and other such biased judgements, and look at this from a purely objective stand point, you will see that Hoke performed just how he should have. He was always a mediocre coach at best (probably always will be).  And that is exactly how he performed here.
