Brandon of course......
Just kidding, it's Dave Dunn - his agent
|2 weeks 2 days ago||We hear nothing other than||
We hear nothing other than Schiano fluffing himself for a week or so and now we are reaching out to multiple candidates - certainly sounds to me like the AD thinks their chances with Harbaugh have greatly diminished.

Well, so much for Harbaugh coming home...
seems the writing is on the wall...

I don't know if the link is screwed up but I was able to read the article and I believe I am aware, but not fully aware that I don't subscribe to scout so I hope it's ok to say that Carr is quoted in the article saying Harbaugh is his #1 choice.

Most coaches I would assume are looking to stay in coaching, I doubt very much Brandon will ever be an athletic director again.
Thus, Brandon retired and Hoke was fired.

|3 weeks 2 days ago||Ha, I really screwed that up||
Ha, I really screwed that up if that's what people think I meant.
I was referring to the assistants being out on the road talking to recruits.
I cannot imagine a situation that would look worse than a coach coming in, saying whatever it is that these assistants have to lie about to the recruits, and then literally a day later they are all fired.
Sorry for any confusion, I absolutely think Hoke should be able to talk to the current players.

Just so we're all clear -
We are sending coaches to talk to kids that are no longer employed by the University.
The incompetence of the athletic department never ceases...

That's the part I really don't get.
This is a guy who clearly knows all about the new forms of digital media and regularly uses them to "enhance the brand", and yet he makes it a point of pride to condescend whenever talking about blogs like it's still 1999 and the only people on the internet are nerds sitting in their underwear in their parents' basement.
Like hey Dave, wake up bud. A large contingent of Michigan athletic supporters get their Michigan athletic news from blogs and form their opinion from blogs so maybe it would be a good time to start reading them after you've finished firing off a few dozen emails to the fake-ass wolverines*.

Desmond disappoints me the more he opens his mouth.
And let's not forget that this is the same guy that called out every player on the team with the exception of Peppers a few weeks ago.
Just ridiculous that they can weave this narrative that the fans are somehow protesting the players...

I read all of that - somehow you come off like a senile, old man - and yet - somehow it made me think that you know exactly what you're talking about.
|11 weeks 5 days ago||Why is his past not relevant||
Why is his past not relevant to the discussion?
I tend to believe that an individual's past behavior is a good barometer for their future behavior.
|11 weeks 5 days ago||No, I was saying that maybe||
No, I was saying that maybe he wasn't a good CEO because his performance relative to the overall market wasn't stellar.
That got debunked a little later when I realized that Domino's paid a huge special dividend, so Domino's actually performed better on a relative basis.
I do not expect Domino's share price to hold up in an enormous bear market.
But if you examine Domino's outperformance since DB's departure, DB doesn't come out looking so great.
Bottom line, when DB was hired, we were told that we were getting a slam dunk candidate because he was a CEO. But I think it worth examining, just because we got a CEO, were we getting a good CEO?
|11 weeks 5 days ago||Good on DB then to improve||
Good on DB then to improve his product.
I actually enjoy a few items on their current menu.
Let's hope then that if DB stays as athletic director that he also recognizes the dire need to improve his current product.
|11 weeks 5 days ago||I suppose the narrative of DB||
I suppose the narrative of DB using the AD as a stepping stone to Governor doesn't make complete sense to me.
It seems to me that while he is certainly in a prestigious position currently, it would make more sense to build up a war chest in the higher paying and more prestigous CEO role.
For those reasons, DB's move to AD feels like his stepping stone is more of a step back.
|11 weeks 5 days ago||I'm with you that I made some||
I'm with you that I made some huge jumps and extrapolations.
I'll also agree that confirmation bias is certainly in play.
At the end of the day though, DB was trumpeted as a huge "get" for the AD coming from his position as CEO. To me, that seems like a big step down in postion and I suspected (with zero evidence) that perhaps DB didn't exactly leave Domino's on his own volition. The performance of Domino's after his departure may support that thesis.
|11 weeks 5 days ago||Maybe it's an unaswerable||
Maybe it's an unaswerable question unless you have access to Domino's internal strategy documents.
I'm well aware that Domino's vastly overhauled their offerings and marketing - I was just curious if that happened under DB or the new leadership.
|11 weeks 5 days ago||You're absolutely correct on||
You're absolutely correct on this.
That special dividend is huge and I didn't notice it until after posting.
I still think that there's something to be said for Domino's performance since DB's departure.
|11 weeks 5 days ago||Ha, we are getting wayyy more||
Ha, we are getting wayyy more complicated than I intended but if we want to bring up issues with companies being in debt and earnings reports, please go take a look at Amazon's earnings reports the past few years.
|11 weeks 6 days ago||This seems like a flawed||
This seems like a flawed argument to me.
Are you implying that everyone in a position of responsibility and leadership is there based purely on merit and success?
Because I know of a certain head football coach at a big time program that would seem to contradict that statement.
|11 weeks 6 days ago||I'm not disagreeing with you,||
I'm not disagreeing with you, but do you have a source for DB being responsible for the revamped offering and makeover of the company?
I'm not claiming to be an expert of Domino's business strategies and absolutely realize that this issue is much more complicated than a simple internet post.
|11 weeks 6 days ago||If you want to bring the||
If you want to bring the economy and overall market into the discussion then you must also include that Domino's underperformed the market during the crash and has outperformed it during the current bull market.
These underperforming and outperforming periods coincide very nicely with DB's time at Domino's.
|11 weeks 6 days ago||I agree with you that the||
I agree with you that the bear market beginning in 2008 did no favors to DB.
Regardless of market conditions, you would still be very hardpressed to find many shareholders that would classify DB's tenure as a "success".
Looking further into it, that giant drop occurred due to a special dividend of $13.50 which certainly makes DB's tenure look better.
I tried to keep this post in simple terms that everyone could understand but I probably should have remembered that this is the MGoBoard.
At the end of the day, DPZ underperformed the S&P during DB's tenure and vastly outperformed the market after he left.
I think we can all agree that Michigan football is vastly underperforming the market (college football as a whole) under DB's tenure and hopefully there is an analagous situation after DB leaves.
|11 weeks 6 days ago||Ha, holy PR spin. Seems a bit||
Ha, holy PR spin.
Seems a bit generous to me that DB gets credit for a company's performance 5 years after he left.
Obviously this is a million times more complicated than just stock price, but I was just trying to point out that maybe DB's time at Domino's isn't as great as it initially sounded.
