Updated CBS Bracketology
Meaningless at this point, but fun to look at.
CBS has us going out West as the 11 seed in what seems to be a relatively unimpressive (edit: as in top quality teams, not overall depth) region.
There are certainly worse scenarios than playing Cincinnati in the first round.
Most of the updated brackets on the Bracket Matrix have us in, but still below MSU.
Only a handful have updated since Saturday. The update today should be fairly accurate, though.
the ones that updated this morning all have us in, but most of them still have us behind MSU.
Yea, I misread your first post. They seem to be pretty even so far, but I was just saying that a lot of the brackets will update today, so the bracket matrix will change a lot today.
Most of the updated brackets have us in just ahead of the last 4 at-larges and very few have us out. Barring major conf. tourney runs by other bubble teams, we could likely withstand losing to the Illini and still be in.
That said, BEAT THE ILLINI.
Only three sites that have updated their brackets since Saturday, have us out. Two of the three have us as the "first team out".
I have to strongly disagree with VCU getting an at-large bid, despite beating George Mason in the CAA semis. I don't think they'll beat ODU in the final, and I feel their resume for an at-large is really weak, especially considering how they limped to the finish line in the CAA.
I think the 12 spot gives us the best opportunity to make it to the Sweet 16. We'd play a 5 then a 4 seed. In the 11 spot, we would play a 6 then a 3 seed. If CBS is right about the picking order and a couple of non-at-large teams win their conferences, then we'd fall right into that sweet spot.
Keep in mind that if we're a 12 seed, we'll probably be in a play-in game.
2 of the 12 seed spots will have playins and 2 won't, so I'll be optimistic about it for the time being.
If Michigan were to be the 10 seed in the west, that could lead to an interesting matchup against SDSU in the 2nd round. Of course, nothing matters right now except beating Illinois (GO BLUE! Beat the Illini!!!), but it's still fun to speculate.
Lunardi has us playing Vanderbilt as an 11 seed in the new Bracketology on ESPN. What's interesting is he has the winner of that game likely playing San Diego State. It would be quite interesting if we had the chance to play Steve Fisher in the tourney.
I could see that happening. The committee loves "storyline" matchups.
That matchup would be a nightmare; their bigs are exceptional and Leonard is a better version of Mbakwe.
Of all the 6 seeds Lunardi has projected in the new Bracketology, I definitely prefer playing Vanderbilt. The only legitimate post player on the team is Ezeli and Morgan should be okay to guard him. Other than that, they're perimeter oriented which matches up well with our style of play. On top of that, they haven't had the strongest finish to their season.
His upadated Bracketology on ESPN has us as an 11 (against Vandy for whatever thats worth) ahead of MSU which he has in the "first four."
SDSU and Steve Fisher....There won't be any storylines if that game happens...
And Michigan basketball...I vote yes.
that is going to get in the way of me continuing being beligerent at conor oneilsthat starts at 5am
the Dayton game would actually let us get a bunch of fans (folks, the A^2-Dayton drive is 2:30-3:00 hrs), would be an attractive game, and I like our chances at winning that one with some momentum toward a 5 / 12 matchup on Friday or Saturday.
Oh yeah, and I live in Dayton, so I'd be able to go
/credibility
Michigan is going to win the Big ten tournament move up to a number 10 seed in the east so that means they will be in chicago and the will play ND in the seond round.
If we win the B1G tournament, we'd be quite a bit higher than a 10 seed. That would be quite the series of impressive wins.
Agreed, we're looking at a 7 seed, I think, if we can win the Big Ten tournament. We would be 22-12 with wins over Illinois, OSU and most likely either Purdue or Wisconsin, not to mention the sweep of MSU and wins over Clemson, Harvard and MInnesota.
If Michigan were to win the B10 tournament, they would move up much higher than a 10 seed. It would mean wins against OSU and Purdue/Wisconsin, and a lot of "momentum" headed into the tourney. They could be as high as a 6 seed if they were to win the tournament. See Georgia from a few years ago.
I'm glad we're playing Cincinnatti and not WVU as a 12 seed. I think all of the big east teams are going to be pretty dangerous this year.
in the second round would be no walk in the park.
And personally, I would like to see a non-Big East opponent in the first round.
Being and Bearcat and Wolverine, this would be a interesting matchup. UC was the #1 BE defensive team this season...at one point against Georgetown on Sat. UC had a front court lineup of 7-0, 6-11, 6-8...Morgan would be in for a battle.
I watched just about every Cincinnati and Michigan BB game this season...if Michigan drew this matchup...a slower paced game will frustrate the Bearcats...keep the score in the 50-60 range. Cincinnati is 24-0 when they score somewhere in the mid 60s or more this season because of their defense (they lead the BE in tournovers)...UM would not want to run with Cincinnati because they have a very deep bench with 11 contributors.
As a fan of both school's I would love to see them play...different styles usually make for a fun game.
