Wow wow wow wow, I mean really? Wow

I sense a rise in sales at Ann Arbor Torch and Pitchfork, Co.

I mean, who cares what Dodd says and all but I'm trying to figure out a way to type all the bad words at once...or come up with some new "uber" curse word to describe how I'm feeling

edit: Michigan Stadium is 15th for those who don't want to click..LSU #1, tsio#3, PSU, WIS & NEB all tied at #7

Seriously, you can't get angry at crap like this.  These are opinions.  As such, the only one that should matter to you on topics like these, is your own.

EDIT: That said, I've been to Sanford Stadium (Georgia)  Historic Grant Field (Ga Tech), Notre Dame and while they're all fun, nothing compares to Michigan.  Obviously, I'm biased.

Is it the 2011 season yet?

Seriously, CBS is fucking up all over the place lately.  First Charlie Sheen, then the UM-MSU game map, now this?  Thank God I'm an ABC or NBC guy.

Constantly Blowing Something.

Sounds like my ex-girlfriend.

The fact that M Stadium should be #1 aside, Tiger stadium should not be on the list. I went to LSU's senior day vs Ole Miss this year and it wasnt even close to sold out, they blare Lil Wayne and other crap music over the speakers after every play, the band played at halftime with the guitarist from Survivor, the fans complained about having the "worst top 5 team ever," and it took 45 minutes to get out of the stadium because of the poor stadium design. The fans left pissed off that they had won! This was one week after we celebrated like mad after beating an unranked Ill team in 3OT at the Big House. This pissed me off so much it provoked my first ever post.

Should we really be surprised that we got a 6 ranking for "fans?"  If you were an impartial observer, how high would you rate the Michigan fan base after the past three years?

On a scale of 0 to 10 where 0 are the troglodytes in Columbus and East Lansing, I would give us a solid 7. Starting from 10, -1 for the wine and cheese crowd, -1 for Greek system ruining student unity, -1 for the fans that boo as the team goes to the locker room.

is often what happens when under the influence of ganja

not the same as "living united"

that said, I never had a problem with the Greeks showing up late -- just makes it easier to move closer to the field -- or rowdy -- except when they fall/puke on me

Michigan Stadium is the biggest stadium and, I think, certainly one of the top 5 coolest stadiums in the country - if for no other reason than its size.

At the same time, I think it's perfectly acceptable to place other stadiums ahead of it. There are certainly some really annoying things about the Big House. Like, I saw a game at Autzen this year. At half time, I was able to take a piss, smoke a joint in the parking lot, buy some hotdogs, and return to my seat by kickoff. You'd be hard-pressed to hiot the head in that time at the Big House.

And, there are certainly any number of cultural dynamics at play here. If you grew up a LSU fan, well, no one is ever going to "prove" to you that there is a better atmosphere than Saturday nights in BR.

Anyway, the Big House rules and lists of this ilk are useless.

Wisconsin... too bad nobody shows up by the time the game starts. The architecture doesn't even flow well there. Smh at this.

The Big House is a great stadium, but hasn't one of the most consistent complains levied against it that it doesn't always "feel" like a great place to watch football, what with the blue hairs and its massive size?  Those SEC stadiums are newer, tend to be filled with far more drunk, loud college kids who are REALLY into the game, and have housed more "important" games in recent memory.  I really don't care what some writer at CBS has to say, but putting a couple of them ahead of UM's stadium is fine.  I'll take my UM degree, the most wins, the best winning percentage, and handfuls of memorable events and athletic excellence over a loud stadium any day of the week.

I guess I should rephrase - the SEC stadiums have a higher percentage of the total stadium filled with drunk, rowdy college students.  I am not sure about the total numbers, but I sat with alums for my first year, and it seemed like there were very few "stand up and get loud" people in my area even with some youthful alums.

If you clicked on the other links at the top of the Dodd article...

Bleacher Report: Toughest to play  - #6 (behind PSU and tSiO though)

Hinnen's Favorite Stadium - #3 (behind the Rose Bowl and Georgia)

The other three didn't have us in their top 3s (they only included 3). I don't think we should get up in arms over some guy's rankings of stadiums. We all know how we would rank the Big House, it's a matter of personal preference. It may seem egregious to us, but it's a matter of perception.

I can't say much for most of the list, but I found the Swamp to be overrated. It's by no means ugly, but it's not gorgeous. UF fans are fickle. If they're in the top 5, they can create a great SEC raucus atmosphere, but when they were average this year, you couldn't give away a student ticket. They have a much larger student body and a ticket lottery and people couldn't get rid of tickets to the LSU game (student tickets go for about $10).

it easy. What's the difference between history and tradition? Damned if they know--or if they do, they haven't spelled it out. (Why does Mich. get an 8 for tradition? Who knows?) And with all the piss-ugly stadiums out where, why does the Big House get a 7 for architecture? (No take on the rehab job makes it all the more suspect.) Who knows how many of their cruds have even been to half of the stadiums on the list.

This is a hack trying to fill his writing/page-hit  quota.

Insightful analysis - Wisconsin is No. 7 because everyone has a beer and jumps around.

He gives the fans at USC a rating of 6.5; UM fans he gives a 6. This is where Dodd's ignorance is particularly striking.

In spite of our serious struggles on the field during the last three seasons, we've continued to fill Michigan Stadium to capacity or above, which is a testament to the loyalty of Michigan fans.

Last season, USC drew 85K for Notre Dame, and 88K for Oregon. The Coliseum's capacity as listed on Wikipedia is over 93K. So for one of USC's historical rivals, they are eight thousand below capacity, and for a PAC10 foe who was on its way to the NC game, they were five thousand under capacity.

Checking my Phil Steele for the 2005 season—during which Bush won the Heisman and USC steamrolled everybody en route to the NC game with Vince Young and Texas—he lists the average attendance as 90K. How is it that a nationally dominant program in one of the largest sports markets in the entire world can't fill its own stadium for a measley few games on a Saturday in beautiful weather?

The guy just did this to entertain people.  There are 5 arbitrary categories given arbitrary ratings and 5 points separates #5 from 15.  I wouldn't get too riled up.  We all have to admit that the stadium's architecture doesn't hold sound as well as it could, and after 3 years of porous defenses and getting blown out in conference games, there hasn't been too much atmosphere.  Hopefully with the new structures, some added aluminum with lights, a bigger scoreboard, and some tough defenses, the place will be rocking again.  Can't wait for 9/10/11.

Also, I think our student section would be much better if they spread it out and had it take up 50 rows in 8 sections as opposed to 100 rows in 4.  Then again, that wouldn't be great for ticket sales.
