TomVH: DT Jarron Jones Offered
Big time New York defensive tackle Jarron Jones (6'6", 305 lbs) was just offered by Michigan. He has offers now from Michigan, Alabama, Florida State, and North Carolina to name a few. I talked to him about the offer, and it seems like it's all too early in the process for him to really have a set plan.
Michigan is a big offer for me. Coach Mallory called my coach and told him that they were offering. I'm going to probably take visits over spring break and the summer. I'm just trying to take it all in right now, if I end up feeling comfortable somewhere then I'll make a decision. I don't really have a timeline right now. I grew up watching some Michigan games, watching Mike Hart and Chad Henne, so I know about Michigan.
Jarron is going to try to make it up to Michigan for a visit, but doesn't have any dates set in stone yet.
His junior film is here.

6'6" maybe a little tall for DT. Any chance he moves to OT?

thinks he could move to DE and be alright
February 24th, 2011 at 6:57 PM ^
I could see him as a 3-4 DE. A lot like a Richard Seymour.

I thought we were going to be running 4 down linemen.

His closing speed with that size would be too good to pass up as a D-lineman.

It seems like this staff is really swinging for the fences with next year's class. This kid kind of reminds me of Alan Branch.

Personally, I love it that the new staff is going after studs. It shows we aren't willing to back down from, the schools on top, for the best players in the country, while showing that we are still here we are still Michigan and we're coming back...

A friend of mine who follows OSU recruiting religiously said that someone on a Buckeye site asked the mods why Michigan would offer Bri'onte Dunn (spelling?) when they know that he's solid for OSU. The mods on the site said that the offer was made to bolster the Michigan brand, i.e., to show other recruits that a Michigan offer is something that goes to elite players.

That's really awesome to hear. It seems like we have been offering higher caliber players but I wasn't sure if there were any FACTS to back that up
February 24th, 2011 at 7:02 PM ^
Adding to the info supporting the higher calibre players, of the almost 90 offers we've handed out, two-thirds of those have gone to players in the Rivals 250 to Watch. It's nice to see that the staff's really aiming high recruiting-wise.

of all how high is he suppose to be rated? osu already has another RB signed. We have a whole lot of time till National Signing Day.GO BLUE!!!

Dynomite ?

Watching that film it's tough not to use the cliche "jumps off the screen" to describe him.

247sports recently named 7 early five stars...amongst the likes of Dorial Green-Beckham, Andrus Peat, John Theus, and Gunner Kiel, Jarron was one of their five stars.

He could have a successful career as a bouncer if football doesn't work out.

According to ESPN we have offered 22 of their 150 watch list. It does seem as though Hoke and company are going after the higher ranked players no matter where they are or who's interested in them. Seems like a good plan to me. Go Blue!

Get mattison on line 1. Up or under 2 5* defensive players this year?

The phrase you're looking for is Over/Under

Most highlight vids I have trouble picking the dude out unless he has an arrow over his head. I didnt need any help finding him on here. This cat in his 3-point is a foot taller than everybody else. Wait, should I be saying 3 point after last night?

Too soon

...no. Hell no.
February 24th, 2011 at 7:50 PM ^
... how many of these kids would land up in Michigan.
I am not saying that we don't have a chance or that Michigan isn't a marketeable brand but what is the likelyhood of landing them.
I mean ... CMU could offer all 5 star kids - how many would actually choose to go there.

The coaches have to have a chance to actively recruit these guys before we'll know.

I only like beasts of defensive linemen who know to switch the ball to their outside hand during a 25 yard interception return.

February 24th, 2011 at 9:50 PM ^
Ewww, I hate what his jersey says.
Also, he's a physical beast, but geez, it seems like the first thing he does is stand up when the ball is snapped. Gonna have to work on that on the next level. Still, that's why we have Mattison, so I'll take him.
February 25th, 2011 at 2:07 AM ^
Has a little Big Will in him. Work that out and you can do a lot of damage sticking that large frame into the interior of the line before the offense gets out of their stance.

looks like the Hulk - a monster among boys.

you're a planet.
February 24th, 2011 at 11:01 PM ^
a star. For some kids this big - you don't see the ability behind the size. Not in this case, Jones is going to be a big time talent.
February 25th, 2011 at 12:00 AM ^
think he is 6 foot 6? Either way this guy is a monster.GO BLUE!!!

Gosh it makes me feel old when a kid is talking about growing up watching Chad Henne and Mike Hart.
