I don't know why, but the "HALOL" abbreviation really annoys me. As far as the big guy, seems like a longshot since he wants to go to a place with a history of big men and feeding the post, but he would certainly qualify as an impact big that we could use on this team.

Definitely a big kid. I wish the highlight video would have shown a little more of his game. I like that he can dunk and rebound, but I want to see his shooting ability and how well he can run the floor. He looks like he would be a prospect, but I would like to see him come to Michigan because we need the size down low with someone that can block and rebound (not knocking on Morgan or anyone else).
February 14th, 2011 at 1:05 PM ^
damn, i still hate those unis.
February 14th, 2011 at 1:45 PM ^
The single M looks weird, I did like North Carolinas style of those though.
February 14th, 2011 at 3:39 PM ^
Not a fan of the deep V?
February 18th, 2011 at 10:46 PM ^
God those uniforms were awful.....
February 14th, 2011 at 2:35 PM ^
Ugh. I had blotted out the Nikefication of our basketball uniforms from memory (along with the rest of the Ellerbe years, which largely coincided with my undergraduate years here. Grrr.).
February 14th, 2011 at 11:52 AM ^
Wait, you're telling me this 7' 4" guy can dunk?
February 14th, 2011 at 10:01 PM ^
Wouldn't it be more unusual if he couldn't?
February 18th, 2011 at 4:38 PM ^
Better question: would he even need to jump to dunk?
February 14th, 2011 at 11:59 AM ^
I get the sense that IS his game. Be large. Get ball, near basket, jump up one to two inches, ball goes in net, sometimes with authority.
If it deosn't work out, we can try him out at Tight End.
February 14th, 2011 at 1:10 PM ^
Ha he would be the real Taco Pants.
February 14th, 2011 at 12:04 PM ^
That could be one of the funniest recruiting videos I've ever seen. It was like they simply re-did the same play 20 times and had the opposing players change jerseys between takes. Kid catches ball. Kid does/does not dribble once. Kid goes up and gets hacked. Kid dunks. Kid turns around and runs to other end of court. Opponents look dejected.
February 14th, 2011 at 5:25 PM ^
If the kid has a jump hook he instantly becomes a top 5 NBA draft pick. Looks more Todd McCullogh than Rik Smits if you as me.
You just never know what you're going to get injury-wise with a guy this size. I'm only 6'7" and I have a myriad of physical issues that doctors have told me exist only because I'm so big. Your body simply takes a pounding with all the weight that comes solely from being tall.
February 14th, 2011 at 8:00 PM ^
I mean, we don't even know if he can shoot the 3 yet. That's essential.
February 14th, 2011 at 11:09 AM ^
He also has a 7'4" brother in the 2013 class.

Damn!!!!!!!! Two kids that are 7'4". I feel sorry for their parents clothing expensive.
February 14th, 2011 at 11:06 AM ^
This guy is probably going to have to redshirt, than come off the bench for a year before he starts to get real playing time. One thing to take away from his highlight tape is that every basket is a dunk, because he's 2 feet taller than everyone else. That's why scout only has him as a 3-star.
February 14th, 2011 at 11:14 AM ^
he probably wouldn't redshirt, imhe.
February 14th, 2011 at 11:14 AM ^
Could you imagine a 7-4 kid sleeping in one of those dorm beds? haha.
February 14th, 2011 at 12:35 PM ^
If he comes we should start a charity to get him a new bed. I had enough problems at 6'6", so I can't imagine the kind of hell he would go through.
February 14th, 2011 at 11:15 AM ^
This must be the recruit Sam Webb was hinting about a few weeks ago. He might be a project player, but you can't teach 7'4".
February 14th, 2011 at 2:49 PM ^
be very patient and very focussed but I can teach you 7'4".
February 14th, 2011 at 8:37 PM ^
"You can't teach 7'4"".
Not with THAT attitude.
February 14th, 2011 at 11:18 AM ^
This kid is no where near as polished as Fab Melo is for Syracuse, and he can barely get playing time right now. This kid is a solid prospect and I think the 3 star is justified given the limited video evidence. I think a redshirt year would do wonders for this kid in rounding out his game and getting used to the physical abilities that college players have that a 6'3" HS player doesn't.
February 14th, 2011 at 1:17 PM ^
If he's any good, SU will be climbin' in yo windows, snatchin' yo centers up.
February 14th, 2011 at 11:19 AM ^
I don't go along with the reasoning that says, "7' 4"? Must have!" (Not sure if the OP was saying this or not -- but many people do.)
A lot of seven-footers are stiffs. For example, compare the number of seven-footers taken in the first round of the NBA draft and the number that actually get more than token minutes in the league. This shows that being really big and succeeding on one level does not guarantee success at the next level.
If this guy can play, and if he can fit into what Beilein wants to do on both offense and defense, then I hope Michigan gets him. But Michigan does not need any old aircraft carrier just because it's great to get a good aircraft carrier.
February 14th, 2011 at 11:40 AM ^
but he doesnt have to be a superstar, all he has to do is play a role with this team.
Furthermore, he isn't just a seven footer. He's 7-foot-FOUR!!! Watch anyone play Illinois and see how much trouble they have with Tisdale, who isn't even very good despite being 7 feet tall.
Then consider that at the college level, many teams' centers barely sniff 6'10. This gives you a potential 6 inch height advantage at the 5 every night!
February 14th, 2011 at 12:26 PM ^
Part of Tisdale's problem is that he is so thin he can still be pushed around to some degree. I believe there was a BTN or ESPN special on him at some point regarding his difficulty putting on and keeping on weight. He ate some ridiculous number of calories per day in the special and he's still a twig. I don't think Bhullar is the same situation at all, as he mentions in his interview that he needs to cut some fat and build muscle. When this guy gets into a college weight room, he'll improve a lot.
I'd love to see him work with Bacari at Michigan. I don't see it happening, though. Sounds like the kid wants to be in an offense where he can get the ball early and often. Not that Michigan can't do that for him, but he may look at our offense and see too many three balls being put up. He could also look at Morgan's dominance a few games back and be impressed, though, so I guess we'll have to see how this plays out.

Ok... OMG !!!!! this is the guy... read my diary about being one big man recruit away from being a major program again Men's Basketball Team, by Leaps and Bounds http://mgoblog.com/diaries/mens-basketball-team-leaps-and-bounds
If we land this kid, you will in short order, see the program return to greatness, and the national spotlight will be BLINDING. We gotta get this guy.
February 14th, 2011 at 11:36 AM ^
Not quite as BLINDING as those bright yellow letters. Yeesh.
February 14th, 2011 at 1:11 PM ^
I give you my award for quote of the day. It's not worth anything, but put it on a resume, and you're sure to get noticed...
February 14th, 2011 at 12:06 PM ^
Negged for self-promotion. That is an excusable offense. However, self-promotion in yellow font is not.
February 14th, 2011 at 12:23 PM ^
"We gotta get this guy." Sheesh.
This is what I'm talking about above. This is that attitude that the Knicks had when they drafted Frederic Weis. "He's really big! He has a skill! He's unstoppable!"
And then this happened.
http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/gallery/enlargePhoto?id=3155442&story=3156336
I'm not saying this guy is the next Frederic Weis. But let's make sure he's not a stiff before deciding that he alone is the key to returning Michigan to the top of the Big Ten.
February 14th, 2011 at 2:07 PM ^
You know, Frederic Weis would have been damn good in college. The standards for "we gotta get this guy" in college are far lower than in the pros. A talentless 7'4 guy can be a great weapon in college even if he would suck in the NBA. Exhibit A: Thabeet goes on.
February 14th, 2011 at 4:57 PM ^
But not the one guy that returns the program to greatness and the reason for turning a "BLINDING" national spotlight on Crisler.
February 14th, 2011 at 2:42 PM ^
BKFinest it! lol!
February 14th, 2011 at 11:30 AM ^
February 14th, 2011 at 11:36 AM ^
and Jon Horford didn't redshirt...
February 14th, 2011 at 11:36 AM ^
The Fab Five didn't redshirt.
Too soon?
February 14th, 2011 at 2:45 PM ^
But Blake McLimans and Jordan Morgan did redshirt. It just comes down to how much proven depth you have. We entered this season with literally no experienced players over 6'5". so Beilein couldn't be sure what he had. If he could do it over, he may have redshirted Christian. Horford has proven valuable enough to play.
February 14th, 2011 at 2:47 PM ^
but obviously McLimans is terrilble or he'd be seeing the floor.
February 14th, 2011 at 3:09 PM ^
February 14th, 2011 at 3:31 PM ^
Last year we had two bigs - Sims and Gibson.
February 14th, 2011 at 5:18 PM ^
February 14th, 2011 at 3:24 PM ^
but I think that Morgan would have seen the floor last year had he not have had knee surgery to repair torn cartilage before the start of the season.
February 14th, 2011 at 3:30 PM ^
His surgery was over the summer. He was initially expected to only miss the first month of the season. If we really wanted to, we could have burned his redshirt down the stretch. We didn't bother.
February 14th, 2011 at 5:28 PM ^
February 14th, 2011 at 5:29 PM ^
and actually being in playing shape are not the same thing.
My original statement wasn't really that hard to comprehend. The surgery caused him to miss pre season work outs and the recovery time kept him from competing at full speed until after the season had started. Burning his red shirt for 1/2 a season of spot minutes would have been ridiculous.
