OT: Suh named Rookie of the Year!
Suh was voted into the Pro Bowl, named Defensive Rookie of the Year, and now adds to his accomplishments as Rookie of the Year. When the Lions drafted him i wasnt a big fan of it. Thought we needed other positions and thought it was best to move down. That being said, i have turned into a big SSSUUUHHHH!!!! fan. Congrats to him.

How were you not a fan of the Lions drafting him??? DL was a big problem for us last year.
STL drafting Bradford was the best thing that's happened to this franchise in years. Suh is a once-in-a-generation player who'll anchor this defense for the next 10-15 years. And besides being a purely dominant football player, he comes with absolutely ZERO baggage. Had the Lions chosen ANYONE else, I'dve hunted Bill Ford down and beaten him with a stick.

Forget the raiders doing us a favor and grabbing Jamarcus Russell. I think that one was bigger for us. Can u imagine him in a Lions uni? I shutter at the thought.

I prefer blinds to shutters.

It all depends on the decor of the room

Only drapes for my crack den. I shudder at the thought of any light.

I can, but he went by the name Daunte Culpepper.

I agree wholeheartedly. How could you not be completely satisfied and excited when the Lions drafted Suh after watching him literally eat Colt McCoy in the Big 12 Chamionship? That was the first time I actually watched him play in a game and have been blown away by his talent ever since. Furthermore, I'm so glad the Lions have this guy on the line to balance for Corey "Neutral Zone Infraction" Williams for the next 10+ years. Very glad to see him get further recognition

I must've missed all the camera shots of Suh idly gnawing on a Colt McCoy leg, or frying up his livers with some fresh onions. But you said he literally ate him, so I'll take your word for it.

Suh might have a chance to win more Championships then Alex Karras...but never more imposing.
February 3rd, 2011 at 5:56 PM ^
Rams won more games this year WITH Bradford than the Lions did with Suh and Stafford (I know, injured, but still..).
Both teams hit the home run in the draft. Bradford > Suh because he plays a more important position. Hell - when was the last time a rookie QB looked as good as Sammy B? I know Peyton Manning didn't. And look at his receiving corp this year - worst in the NFL by far.
Lions fans, please celebrate Suh all you want - but to act like StL did you a favor by passing on him to take Bradford... well that's a fucking joke.

I think if the lions played in the NFC West they might have similar results, just saying.
February 3rd, 2011 at 9:27 PM ^
You sure have a raging clue for "Sammy B"

If only Suh and the Lions would have played head to head against Bradford and the Rams, then we might be able to tell who was better off.
Oh wait, they did. And the Lions squeaked out a 44-6 win.
February 3rd, 2011 at 11:30 PM ^
I've seen this said several times and it's just plain wrong. Matt Ryan took a 4 win team to an 11 win team(that's 1 more game improvement than those rams) and looked pretty darn good. Flacco won playoff games as a rookie and was solid as well. Bradford is pretty darn good, but to act like he's the only rookie QB to ever be good at anything is homerish to the extreme.

I think the Lions are building towards something positive for next season. I dare say I expect to see them playing in the super bowl in the next 4 years.
Wow a top 5 pick that is actually worth the money he was paid. Who would have thought?
February 3rd, 2011 at 3:51 PM ^
would like to have a word with you Warrior.
February 3rd, 2011 at 3:41 PM ^
I thought we could have moved down to get some picks. Everything was a big problem last year so why not try to get more. But i was clearly wrong and i admit it. shame on me
February 3rd, 2011 at 3:54 PM ^
It would have been impossible to move down unless Bradford did not go number 1... Suh was the best pick.
February 3rd, 2011 at 3:41 PM ^
Now if only Stafford could stay healthy for one year the Lions may turn things around.
February 3rd, 2011 at 3:50 PM ^
Holy shit! That is the craziest thing I've heard in a while and I'm staring at 5' snow drifts in Downtown Chicago!
As soon as the Rams started leaning toward Bradford I threw a f'n party! Suh is an absolute animal and I am so proud he wears the Honolulu Blue and Silver!

Yes, it's as if Lions fans are incapable of noticing how good Sam Bradford made the Rams this season. Both teams are huge winners with their first round 2010 draft picks, just in different ways.
And Suh did decapitate the worst QB in the NFL the last five years - Delhomme. He'll always have a special place in my heart for that.
February 3rd, 2011 at 7:16 PM ^
The Rams did do us a favor?
February 3rd, 2011 at 9:58 PM ^
Lions fans are never going to consider a team "good" if the Lions beat them 44-6. And Bradford finished below Shaun Hill in QB rating. Being 7-9 in the NFC West does not make anyone good. I don't know if I'd call it a "mistake" by the Rams for passing over Suh, because they needed a quarterback, but Suh is now and will always be, barring injury, a better player than Bradford.
February 3rd, 2011 at 4:34 PM ^
I waited to throw the party until I actually heard Suh's name called. I've never jumped out of my seat and cheered a draft pick until then, but I was deathly afraid the Lions would screw it up. Who else screws up the sure thing like the Lions?
February 3rd, 2011 at 4:21 PM ^
Great football player and seems like a genuinely good guy............let's hope for solid 2011 draft.
February 3rd, 2011 at 7:20 PM ^
for a solid ellipsis.

I am having a hard time dealing with this thread. On the one hand, Suh winning Rookie of the Year is sweet - first time a Lion has won anything in a while, I'd wager. On the other, hearing someone say that they weren't a big fan of the pick blows my mind. I spent literally months hoping we'd snag him - and I had deliberately killed all Lions-related hopes years ago. Great pick, easy decision, and a huge win for the Lions. All this does is prove it. :)

..."SUHnami."

Just put him in the HOF already! I'm excited about Suh and the Lions next season. Very upbeat. Just draft/sign a few defensive players and we're good to go.
February 3rd, 2011 at 5:01 PM ^
Great first year. Hope he stays healthy and shows he can play at a high level year in and year out.
Looking at it objectively, the potentially short career of an interior lineman is why you might not want to draft one high. How many times have you seen someone go down because another lineman besides the one he was engaged with fell into his knee?
I also find it a bit amusing when people complain about not having traded down. Sure, it'd be great to do that and get extra picks, but it takes two to tango, and you have to find a partner who's not only willing to give up those extra picks, but also pay ultra megabux to a top draft pick.
I sure hope the players and owners will come to an agreement that includes a rookie salary cap (and quickly, so we don't miss any games, and there's adequate time for free agency - though I fear a long stoppage) . The amount of money these unproven players have been getting in recent years is just crazy. With such a cap there will be more willingness to trade.

I was jumping up and down when the Lions drafted Suh......how could anyone not like him?
February 3rd, 2011 at 7:13 PM ^
favorite lion.
February 3rd, 2011 at 9:17 PM ^
I really can't believe he didn't get any votes for regular defensive player of the year, or by virtue of his rookiness was ineligble.. For a DT he tore it up.

DeFran said in the Taylor interview that McCourty had a good shot at it.
What an asshole

I don't know how you weren't excited about Suh coming to Detroit. Personally I think they made some of the best draft choices they've made in a while this past year. I liked the Jahvid Best pick too.
