Last Two Assistant Coaches
This is my first time posting on the board. I am really excited about the hiring of Mattison. I was just wondering if anybody has heard anything about who we are targeting for our last two assistant coaches position? It looks like we are going to hire two more defensive coaches. I have not heard any names though.

He would be a great hire and possible DC in waiting.. has anyone heard any rumblings about Austin?

That would be a great hire if we can make it happen...

Who steps down from DC at a top football school to become a position coach at another top football school of less recent acclaim?

I'm with you on this one.

Hopefully someone who is no longer a DC at a top football school and is looking for a job, in particular at Michigan.

Well, he's not currently a DC at a top football school. He's currently unemployed. The reason he would take this job is that Mattison is relatively old and will probably retire in a few years. He could come in as a Co-DC and take over when Mattison retires.
That would also put him in position to take over HC when Hoke retires another 5 or so years after that.

Does he have any michigan ties/ Respective credentials???? And is Hoke really pursuing him, haven't really heard his name in all this

Austin was our DB coach from 1999-2002. He was considered an outstanding recruiter, but not as great in terms of coaching technique as his predecessor (Vance Bedford). But he's climbed up the coaching ladder, so who knows.

The new DB coach is still working for the Bears.

hard to announce the new DB coach until after they finish their season, especially when they are this close to the SB

Jon Hoke for the DBs.
Book it.

his brother says he's happy in the pros and that's where he always wanted to be
January 20th, 2011 at 10:00 AM ^
but, maybe he is giving word service as to not distract his team with his true intentions of leaving after the season.

...here in Chicago last week that Jon Hoke, "Had no interest in joining his brother at Michigan." Of course, this report was broadcast on ESPN Radio, AM 1000, so it's likely a jump of the gun, overstatement of something said by someone's best friend's sister's boyfriend's brother's girlfriend who heard it from this guy who knows this kid at 31 Flavors last night.

had declined the DC position, so why would they want a position coach position?
January 20th, 2011 at 10:20 AM ^
Where'd you hear that Hoke and Austin were offered the job?
January 20th, 2011 at 11:45 AM ^
but I may have mis-read it. My bad.
I did see that Beaver claims that the remaining 2 will not be former coaches, FWIW.
January 20th, 2011 at 10:42 AM ^
was Brady's first, second and third choice.
