CC Rumor: Gruden interviewing?
January 8th, 2011 at 5:24 PM ^
Yeah the had it covered last time?
January 8th, 2011 at 5:24 PM ^
Did you miss the part where fox2 released a story that was found to be unfounded and pure speculation?
January 8th, 2011 at 5:39 PM ^
Which time?
January 8th, 2011 at 5:25 PM ^
Just like RR was fired Tuesday. Not saying it's necessarily wrong but I have no reason to trust them.
Also, let's drop the CC tag since every board post will now have it. I could start a thread titled mangled animal carcass and we'd end up talking about the potential of Charlie Weis coming here...
January 8th, 2011 at 5:27 PM ^
This could just mean they are interviewing tomorrow?
/Praying to that sweet merciful baby Jesus we have a shot to land this guy.
Also, I think any talks would be more like "negotiating" than "interviewing".
January 8th, 2011 at 5:29 PM ^
it's not happening. i;d bet my journalism career on it
January 8th, 2011 at 5:30 PM ^
And here I am without a journalism career to wager.
This game sucks.
January 8th, 2011 at 5:36 PM ^
University of Phoenix online. Go getcha one so you can join in on the gambling.
January 8th, 2011 at 6:54 PM ^
I'm a business major
January 8th, 2011 at 5:39 PM ^
I would take that over Les Miles...Please tell me that this carcass you speak of has ties to Michigan and at least a small coaching resume.
January 8th, 2011 at 5:53 PM ^
gives spread and shred a new meaning.
January 8th, 2011 at 5:41 PM ^
Is the Gruden, Tirico, Jaworski team doing the NC monday night? It would explain the plane in 'zona
January 8th, 2011 at 5:59 PM ^
I believe they are. Don't read to much into it.
January 8th, 2011 at 6:01 PM ^
I dunno about the other two, but Gruden is
January 8th, 2011 at 6:02 PM ^
January 8th, 2011 at 5:41 PM ^
Unless it was about a mangled whale carcass. Or maybe a water buffalo.
January 8th, 2011 at 5:41 PM ^
January 8th, 2011 at 6:34 PM ^
I am living in a discount tent on the field in Kezer Stadium, wishing death to the 49ers until this all gets resolved if you care to join me (it's right accross the street from Kezar Pub, so we can still catch the UM-KU game tomorrow).
January 8th, 2011 at 5:47 PM ^
Weis is a candidate? Where'd you hear this? Sources man!
January 8th, 2011 at 5:52 PM ^
He lost ten pounds and is now going by the name "Brady Hoke"
January 8th, 2011 at 5:48 PM ^
January 8th, 2011 at 6:36 PM ^
We need to start tagging things "CS" for Coaching Search
January 8th, 2011 at 6:47 PM ^
CS= Coaching Search since we already know theres a Coaching Change, no? whatever
January 8th, 2011 at 5:46 PM ^
I can only dream of bringing my own Maized out Chucky to the Big House
January 8th, 2011 at 6:01 PM ^
The "I Haz Ur Hed" Chucky toys. Rated E for everyone.
EDIT: Also, comes with pull cord that includes catching sayings such as.
"I fucking hate your sweater vest".
January 8th, 2011 at 6:46 PM ^
Chuck-er-ine.
January 8th, 2011 at 5:44 PM ^
So many conflicting pictures in your post. This might be the only time you ever see Mr. Rogers and Chucky side by side.
January 8th, 2011 at 5:25 PM ^
This can't be true!
Some other guy's twitter said Les Miles was already a done deal!
I think this is bullshit as well.
January 8th, 2011 at 5:27 PM ^
Two warning flags already:
1) source if fox2 news. Yeah, totally above-board with their reporting on the situation so far.
2) Used the hash tag #takeitwithagrainofsalt. I think that says it all.
January 8th, 2011 at 5:27 PM ^
If DB is not interviewing, I would be concerned. I hope this is true, motion creates emotion.
January 8th, 2011 at 5:30 PM ^
If it's wrong, it's wrong, but this is the first time, I think, that I've heard his name come up outside of people's, and my own, wishlists. Gruden, as many have mentioned is a student of the game and has spent time learning the spread offense to a point where I'm sure he could at least incorporate it to a degree, hopefully that would mean Denard stays, plus you know Gruden would love Denard and Devin, "My two qb's, now these guys, they're gamers!" Then on the defensive side of the ball, we'd be taken care of as well. He's been itching to get back into coaching and this job could be right up his alley.
January 8th, 2011 at 5:37 PM ^
But if he's going to take a job it makes some sense (i.e. get ready to watch me talk myself into the dream).
He's said a midwest college job like ND, UM, or OSU would be great. He seems to have looked hard at OSU even when he was an NFL head coach with the Raiders. If you are looking at those jobs, Kelly is at ND at least another 3 years and Tressel is locked in at OSU (and even if he leaves would you really want to follow that). Money should be legit. Just heard NFL guys talking about how owners don't want to give personnel control to coaches and this is why Gruden/Cowher haven't come close to taking another job. He's looked into and studied the hot offense in college football. At Michigan his name alone unifies a disgruntled fanbase. The team is set up for immediate success with 18 starters coming back and expectations are low after three (more than that in my mind) painful years. If he beats MSU and wins 9 games, how much love would he be getting? If he beats OSU and/or has a better record he's an instant legend. We also look like we'll be offering comparable money to NFL teams (maybe not what he could get, but pretty high).
Also, Jaws is a douche.
So yeah, I realize I have officially become "ND fan" but I don't care. I would rather believe for a few more days if the only other option is embracing Hokeamania.
January 8th, 2011 at 5:58 PM ^
If he comes here, wins nine games and beats MSU, I will stop using words, but will communicate only in grunts that sound like "GROO-DUN."
January 8th, 2011 at 6:11 PM ^
Would actually be a better hire then harbaugh .he would own recruiting im talkin top2 every year if he wins like he suppossed too . He would be what pete carroll was to USC
January 8th, 2011 at 6:14 PM ^
Michigan fans would actually be excited about the hire.
January 8th, 2011 at 6:27 PM ^
I think a decent amount would be, but there's no guarantee of him uniting the fanbase. He would be met with a lot more skepticism than you think.
January 8th, 2011 at 6:32 PM ^
Not a surprise after the last few years, but hopefully Dave Brandon gives a shot to prove it.
January 8th, 2011 at 6:40 PM ^
we're all retarded if we don't share your opinion. *roll eyes*
Having said that, whoever is the coach, I will support.
January 8th, 2011 at 6:48 PM ^
I think the large majority of the fanbase would be behind him. I don't think it's very likely to happen, though.
January 8th, 2011 at 6:39 PM ^
Let this happen. Your pops knows we need it. Gruden!
January 8th, 2011 at 8:14 PM ^
on why Gruden would be a good hire, and man would I love to have him. There is always a part of me that tends to go back to wanting a guy that will be here for the long haul. Gruden would be great, but how long would he really be interested in staying. If it is for a while, then by all means come on down Gruden, but I don't believe that is the case. I want DB to do his due justice in finding the next University of Michigan Football coach that will bleed maize and blue until his career is over (i know this is a big wish, but man would it be great).
January 8th, 2011 at 5:40 PM ^
I get the feeling DB doesn't want us to go all-out spread (spread-eagle?) in the Richrod/Oregon finesse sense. I get the feeling he wants to veer back toward the power game. A hybrid that suits both Denard and the B10 style. Like Miss State or LSU, for example.
January 8th, 2011 at 5:32 PM ^
She just tweeted again, linking a story in which Gruden's dad says he'd be good for the Cleveland Browns. Probably nothing to see here.
January 8th, 2011 at 5:42 PM ^
The story is from Cleveland.com, I feel like the dad would say to Annarbor.com that he would be great for the mich job. I'm not going to count on this rumor being remotely true. But at least its word that DB may actually be doing something.
January 8th, 2011 at 6:23 PM ^
I have a very hard time believing that Chucky would go to a place where Holmgren's word is the law. Gruden wants control. He will have none of that in Cleveland.
January 8th, 2011 at 5:32 PM ^
since the early 90s... Would he fit back into the college game? I do think his NFL cachet would help recruiting as much as Les Miles's college clout would, perhaps even more.
January 8th, 2011 at 5:41 PM ^
Carroll had been out of college coaching since 1983. If Weis and Wannstache can recruit (and both were very good), Gruden can sign every blue-chip in 10 states.
