If he truly wanted Hoke then we would have heard something. I think we'll hear more about Miles starting tomorrow.
January 7th, 2011 at 8:52 PM ^
Wikipedia lists Les Miles as 0-0 at his current job... ohhhhh... Wikipedia from the future.......
January 7th, 2011 at 8:57 PM ^
Well, what do you guys expect? Every coach in the country not named Brady Hoke has said they have no interest in Michigan. At this rate it'll come down to Hoke or a few High School coaching prospects.
January 7th, 2011 at 9:06 PM ^
Until after the Michigan job is filled.
January 7th, 2011 at 9:11 PM ^
Is is a coincidence that every coach we're looking at is getting another job or a contract extension is reported today?
January 7th, 2011 at 9:15 PM ^
Either they aren't interested or the school is nervous.
Without knowing the details of this extension, hard to tell what the impact might be. If there's a buyout included then he's out of the picture. If not, then there's a chance I guess. Not terribly optimistic though.
January 7th, 2011 at 9:36 PM ^
All these coaches are loving us today - thanks, U of M, for guaranteeing I get a huge raise!
January 7th, 2011 at 9:16 PM ^
That report is dated Dec 6.
January 7th, 2011 at 9:21 PM ^
Facepalm. I thought this was a new extension he signed today or something! He signed that Dec. 6 and there's a clause that lets him go to Michigan since he stated that was his dream job.
January 7th, 2011 at 9:30 PM ^
I think Brodie was being sarcastic to make the point that he's not worried about the contract extension.
January 7th, 2011 at 9:56 PM ^
Ohhh. Yea i'm dumb. This whole CC is messin with my mind. And when Beavis said "...now that Hoke is out" I panicked
January 7th, 2011 at 8:59 PM ^
This is not surprising. Never use a coach's public statements as a way of gauging his interest. Coaches love to milk job openings for pay raises.

Just landed in Vegas. DB's prob throwing down some serious cash on who the next HC will be:
<br>
<br>"Um, yes. I'd like to play $10,000 on Jim Harbaugh please.... Wait....what? He did? When? Reeeeeaaaally. Ok, well in that case, I'd like to play $10,000 on Gary Patters---, ARE YOU FUCKING SHITTING ME?!?! Why doesn't anyone tell me these things?!?! Well, I guess I'd just like to up my bet from Tuesday... <sigh> Please add $50 to Brady Hoke...."

Hoke is out?
January 7th, 2011 at 9:22 PM ^
Although if it is, I'll find it more funny than sad. By a lot.
January 7th, 2011 at 9:17 PM ^
are you getting that Hoke is out from?
January 7th, 2011 at 9:41 PM ^
He's not. He was offered a contract extension at the beginning of December, which means nothing.
January 7th, 2011 at 9:20 PM ^
A gigantic poop tonight not too long ago after eating a double-steak-cheeseburger with fries at B-Dub's, and it kind of resembled this whole coaching search situation.
January 7th, 2011 at 9:22 PM ^
Every time a bell rings : It's a Wonderful Life :: Every time a coach receives an extension : Michigan Coaching Searches.
Actually, I answered my question but I'm too lazy to come up with the other three.
January 7th, 2011 at 9:28 PM ^
so I'll say it here. Maybe Harbaugh meant to slam Michigan when he made those remarks and all that crap about how much he owes to his alma mater is the real bull.
January 7th, 2011 at 9:32 PM ^
I'm not gonna lie, that might be the best thing I've ever wasted three minutes on...
January 7th, 2011 at 9:33 PM ^
the 49ers will improve to 7-9. You heard it here first! And Harbaugh, the would-be next Bill Walsh (who looks at a picture of Walsh on his computer every day???) will start reading about how he should be fired and a coach with NFL experience hired.
January 8th, 2011 at 2:09 AM ^
... of College coaches trying it in the NFL is not good at all. He'll be dealing with big egos, not kids. Plus the pressure is going to be significantly higher. SF fans are NOT going to be waiting 5 years for significant improvement. Who knows his reasons, but if Michigan was willing to pay close to $5 million for him, how do you not go and coach in the place you said all this time you loved?
I hope he does well in the NFL, but I have my doubts that he will.
January 7th, 2011 at 9:47 PM ^
Exactly what is DB doing and who is he talking to? How can this entire process be kept under wraps to such an extent? And why can't he come up with anyone this board would tolerate is he is, in fact, willing to spend $5M per?
January 7th, 2011 at 9:49 PM ^
Gary Paterson is Billy Gillespie. His system is also premised on getting undersized guys - an underdog strategy that a Goliath like Michigan need not pursue (like RR's spread). I'd prefer Miles as HC and Hoke as DC and assistant head coach. Short term stability and name recognition, potential long terrm coaching answer.
January 7th, 2011 at 10:08 PM ^
Comparing Gary Patterson to Billy Gillespie. Are you serious? Billy Gillespie had 4 decent to good seasons before taking over at Kentucky, Gary Patterson has consistently won at TCU for 10 years. Bit of a difference there.
I am not sure if you noticed or not, but that "undersized" TCU defense held a Wisconson offense that was destroying everybody in the Big 10 to 19 points. That is impressive no matter how you want to slice it.
Patterson would be a great hire, even though that seems like a longshot at this point.
January 7th, 2011 at 11:02 PM ^
The parallels are there. Patterson has had longer term success than Gillespie, but I note that Gillespie had success in the Big 12, whereas Patterson was in the Mountain West. Also, regarding your countpoint to my undersized argument, I can also point to West Virginia's victory over Oklahoma in the 2008 Bowl Game.

to you, sir.
January 7th, 2011 at 10:08 PM ^
All signs point to Hoke.
January 7th, 2011 at 10:09 PM ^
This article is well worth reading, particularly if it does wind up being Hoke:
January 8th, 2011 at 1:57 AM ^
... all signs seem to point at Hoke. If he is indeed our next coach, please, let's give him the support he needs. I believe we really need someone who wants to be here. We need someone who will address the crowd at Crisler Arena and yells to the world:
"To The Ohio State Buckeys, I tell you this: your fun is over... we'll be waiting for you next November". He needs to set the intention, get people excited, and prepare all year for it. I thought Harbaugh would be that guy... but maybe someone with Hoke's passion and love for Michigan (and hopefully a healthy hate for MSU and OSU) will get it done.
Edit: I know I posted above that I had my reservations about Hoke, therefore, contradicting myself. But reading that article, made me re-think about it. I think we need to be open.
January 7th, 2011 at 10:12 PM ^
If this is true then DB has made a collosal mistake! Keeping RR another year even with the swirling shitstorm would have been a year of buying time to either get better or find a coach. All the controversy could have been dealt with if GERG was axed the day after the tOSU game and someone on staff named "interm" until a decent coach and change of philosophy happened.
I think a name that will come up is Gary Pinkel. He's older than Miles, but doesn't carry as much baggage.
No matter what, if RR had hired a good DC and let him run his program we wouldn't be in the position we are in. That's why I think RR is a OC in a big conference (Pac10, B10, SEC, B12) and a HC in the others. He wasn't quite ready for primetime.
January 7th, 2011 at 10:16 PM ^
there is no way they are giving up their golden fleece.
January 7th, 2011 at 10:24 PM ^
Start by google images with Buh... Then look at the pix for a while and try to absorb them. Then lets try his name... Buh, Buh, Braaa, Braaa dee. Good. Your getting it. Lets try again. Bra....Bra....Bra......deeee.....Ho.......Ho......kuh. Good. Lets try one more time. Braaaa Deeee Ho...kah. Good, I knew you could do it. Carr wins.
January 7th, 2011 at 10:29 PM ^
Why isnt he being talked about. Very similar offenses. Good defense. Good recruiter. Fire DB, and we never should have got rid of RR. Or atl least if he was getting rid of him, have somebody lined up. DB needs to go.
January 7th, 2011 at 10:34 PM ^
WHY WOULD HE LEAVE?
All caps intentional.
January 7th, 2011 at 10:47 PM ^
he won't...senseless speculation

Hoke will take the job if its offered to him. I think he also realizes that he isn't at the top of DB's list. He'd have already gotten an offer if he was.
January 7th, 2011 at 10:39 PM ^
Its been real. Very much thanks (and I really mean it) to TATER. With out you. I never would have known of the best blog. PLEASE support your next coach. All in for Michigan. The Team. The Team. The Team. Asta La Vista. Go Blue!

Even the Pa-HOKE-eee kids like Hoke.
