What is your worst "Michigan moment" not involving the game itself?

trying to think of a story for this post? just kidding. no, but seriously...
December 22nd, 2010 at 11:14 PM ^
The realization at age 20 or 21 that I would never play football for Michigan. Worst day ever.
Also, my first year roommate called home every single day to touch base with friends. Unfortunately, he was from India, so he was constantly talking on the phone between 2 and 6 AM and slept through the day. I didn't do a whole lot of sleeping that year.
December 22nd, 2010 at 11:51 PM ^
finals week at Michigan especially when you have finals in consecutive days. Nuff said.
December 23rd, 2010 at 2:32 AM ^
Try having multiple on the same day. And not just like one hard one, one blow off class... the two hardest of your classes just so happen to have their finals back to back starting at 8 am.
Just the luck of the draw, but man did that suck.
December 23rd, 2010 at 8:33 PM ^
have the exams in the same day rather than 3 consecutive days. You're studying the same amount for all of the exams and you're done in one day instead of having to go back to the library to study some more.
December 23rd, 2010 at 8:46 PM ^
Try 4 exams in 3 consecutive days... the horrors of an engineering freshman with no AP credits trying to graduate in 4 years.
In all seriousness, the worst experience was getting tear-gassed then clubbed by an AAPD officer after the "Webber Timeout" game on South U... all for trying to break up a fight.
December 22nd, 2010 at 11:12 PM ^
getting deferred. ya.
December 22nd, 2010 at 11:29 PM ^
This for sure and being waitlisted. However it did give me the oppurtunity to go to Central and meet people i wouldn't of otherwise, so i take it as a good thing.

Taking a walk of shame through an opposing team's campus. It's happened quite a bit the last few years.
December 22nd, 2010 at 11:15 PM ^
Doesn't matter if we win.
December 22nd, 2010 at 11:18 PM ^
that's bad?

+1 for manbearpig. the post just makes it better

Thanks for being so super awesome.

Philosophy in the Frieze after lunch near the hissing radiator. ZZZZZZZZZZZZZ, huh.

That was the one and only Michigan game I watched at a bar. We were cheered out of a bar in Minneapolis. Brutal
December 23rd, 2010 at 9:54 AM ^
I was in DC, living the dream... a year removed from college, reuniting with a past fling... spring was in the air... well actually it was autumn, and it was quite possibly the worst saturday of my life. I was at a CSU/CU bar... and THAT happened. I was stuck in DC, bar hopping with my Michigan 2004 student shirt exposed for the world to see, and mock.
Even ND fans were talking smack... meanwhile they got smoked 33-3 at home by GaTech.
It was the best and worst weekend of my life, for obvious reasons.

My gf just graduated from Texas. Went to the commencement and at the end when they sang their "I've been working on the railroad" song (it's to that tune) and everyone else was holding up the horns, I stood there with my arms crossed. Would never sing another fight song/alma matter.
She talked so much crap about how their football team was better than Michigan. Needless to say, I took every opportunity to rip her this season. Love hurts!

My Calculus III exam, and freaking out to the point of having a panic attack and hyperventilating. Yea, that was fun.
[However, it ended alright since I was able to sneak into the alternate exam time a little bit late with the professor being none the wiser. Still, would not relive that moment for anything.]

I was in grad school, EE, and working late in the EECS clean room. I missed the bus and had to walk back to my apartment by the Med School, in the snow. That's about a 45 minute walk if I remember correctly. And then it started raining. Hard. And my experiment did not work, so I had 45 minutes to curse my fate. That was the closest I came to quitting, but I stayed and became a champion (got my degree.)
Tied for second is anytime missing a bus on a Sunday. I hated those busses.
December 23rd, 2010 at 9:37 AM ^
Pretty much any moment spent up there in Siberia qualifies as a never-ending, hellish worst Michigan (non-sports) moment in my opinion.
December 24th, 2010 at 1:59 AM ^
My roommates and I were lost late one night after a party at the hockey house and one of the off duty buses picked us up. He even let us drink the case we lifted from the party. If only all bus drivers were as cool as Otto.
It was a gnarly night.

Walking across campus in January, from the Frieze building to my house on Cambridge Ct (right down the street from Harbaugh's, by the way) and having my eyebrows literally freeze in a "look of surprise" position. This happened every year, more than once. Winter sucks everywhere, maybe a little less in Ann Arbor.

Falling on my sword and turning a PoliSci bluebook final into a de facto course evaluation of my decrepit prof and his moron GSI when my answer to the last essay question wandered hopelessly into Billy Madison territory.
Still pulled a B-, but waiting the week and a half for that grade to pop up on Wolverine Access was downright torture.
December 23rd, 2010 at 2:19 AM ^
That is absolutely heroic. However, let me guess... the prof is still there?
December 23rd, 2010 at 9:10 AM ^
Retired after the next semester.

Was it the puppy who lost his way? Or was it just way off topic and basically an in-your-face telling off?
December 23rd, 2010 at 12:10 AM ^
Almost missing my flight at Ohare because I was selected for a random search. When I was in the box the guard that selected me whispered to me the oly reason I was in the box was because I was wearing a Michigan sweatshirt and if I was a buckeye fan I would be on my plane by now.

It's not my worst moment, but I had a similar experience. I was coming back from Europe the summer before my freshman year and the customs official in Cincinnati (well, Northern Kentucky) saw my Michigan hat and proceded to hurl abuse at me, knowing full well that if I said anything in return he could make my life hell trying to get back into the country. This is a man in his 30s saying everything terrible he could to an 18-year-old. Fuck those bastards.
December 23rd, 2010 at 2:47 AM ^
The past 2,588 days have been hell. Pure hell.
December 23rd, 2010 at 3:08 AM ^
Fuck them and their day count. Somebody at work tried to pull that shit with me at work today when I took some time to enjoy a litlle schandenfreude after they lost to Texas. ( I know that's little brother-ish but fuck 'em, they deserve it.) I simply replied: "Well eleven days ago, you guys got your asses handed to you five to zero in front of a world record audience of more than 113,000 people. So how's that for some fucking numbers?" I also told her I didn't want to hear that "hockey doesn't count" shit neither. We live in Michigan godammit.

you CUSSED? you cussed out a GIRL?
December 23rd, 2010 at 10:22 AM ^
Yes. There's only so many times you're told by said girl that you have shit on your hat and or shirt before you snap. Plus she cusses waaay worse than I do, which says alot.
December 23rd, 2010 at 9:38 AM ^
Well this is the OSU game count. Although the MSU one is almost as bad.
December 23rd, 2010 at 7:47 AM ^
My roommate came back to the dorm completely smashed and very loud. Woke up everybody on the floor. Nobody was happy about it. He crashed.
The next morning I wake up and see/smell a puddle of urine under his bed.
So, my worst moment became one of my best moments when I made sure everyone on the floor knew about it by noon.
December 23rd, 2010 at 8:25 AM ^
Expected, but still disappointing.
How could they do that to one of their own? /s

An even halfway decent applicant to M law who is turned down could most likely go elsewhere and get a considerable schollie. Decreased debt at the end of law school makes a huge difference. Plus the curve at M would be quite a fucking thing (I believe), so it would be harder to stand out.
It may be that I have no idea what I'm talking about.
December 23rd, 2010 at 9:50 AM ^
Went to Boston University Law, practiced for a while, came to my senses and found a real job, got married, had kids, etc....most importantly, still Blue.
December 23rd, 2010 at 9:13 AM ^
My worst? I'm feeling wordy this morning ...
* Any bus ride between North and Central campus. What an ongoing cluster@#$% that was ... I can't believe I didn't hate it more at the time.
* _Choosing_ to live in Markley (because of ... yippee ... the promise of living on an Honors floor), before it was an all-1st-year dorm, when I could have realistically (when the timing was considered) chosen, say, West Quad. STUPID.
* Having a Math 215 prof who apparently thought he was teaching Math 295. Not horrible per se, but that was a demanding term and the additional complexity was annoying.
* Watching that Florida State beat-down in 1991.
* Watching Desmond getting tripped in the end zone while sitting among twenty-some Sparty fans.
* Fab Five losing to a team with far less talent in 1993.
That's all for now ...

Hands down, my worst Michigan experience was having to graduate and move on to the next life step.

after being in the "grunge pit" for most of the show, I was looking at the showcase of the fab five and thats all I remember, passed out right there with security all around. I tried calling a time out, but no such luck. Pearl Jam rocks!

Oh man, I had a ticket to the concert and all of my friends were going. Being the stupid freshman that I was, I sold my ticket for like 5x face value. Of course, the money mattered at the time more but I realize that the memory I would have is obviously much more valuable today.
-1 for reminding me of my stupidity (just teasing).
December 23rd, 2010 at 8:53 PM ^
Did the same thing, only for less money... Boy I was a tool.
It's funny how I still listen to grunge all these years later.
December 23rd, 2010 at 9:37 AM ^
Post game feeling every year after losing to OSU, particularly the ones I went to and the walk back home after the game.
December 23rd, 2010 at 9:44 AM ^
I hear you, but see the above mention of the loss to Colorado after the Kordell Stewart "Hail Mary." There can be no worse feeling than leaving that game.
December 23rd, 2010 at 10:33 AM ^
I watched that game when I was 7 but I don't remember the end. I went to A Buffs game this year and they were playing glory days highlights on the big screen. Of course they played that and it made me sick.
