Although I agree, being on this board after UMass I feel many people might disagree.
November 13th, 2010 at 7:54 PM ^
No I think we all agree. No one will remember that UMass game in a few years... everyone will remember...the Horror... :(
November 13th, 2010 at 7:57 PM ^
Dreisbach1817 may disagree with you about UMass [see below].
November 14th, 2010 at 11:21 AM ^
On a tangential note, I personally think VT's loss to JMU is more embarrassing than App St. At least App St. was a good FCS team (defending champs, I believe).
JMU...yikes.
November 13th, 2010 at 7:56 PM ^
But most of the posters here are overly emotional. Right after the PSU loss, I remember flocks of people calling the season over and searching for RR replacements. It's fun to continually follow the team like this but sometimes we lost sight of things.
November 13th, 2010 at 7:58 PM ^
Just really concerned....there's a difference! (Looks away, wipes a tear.)
November 13th, 2010 at 8:51 PM ^
I think we all get a pass considering these circumstances:
1) On a 2 game losing streak going into that game
2) Matt McGloin going all Peyton Manning on the defense.
3) Road night game, meaning the majority of us were drinking heavily during the game
4) A blowout early, forcing us to drink even more... leading to crazy drunken posts.
On that note, I'm going to get my first drink of the night.
November 14th, 2010 at 1:10 AM ^
is offended. sack up, board!
November 13th, 2010 at 7:52 PM ^
"There is no bad quotes from RR."
November 13th, 2010 at 7:53 PM ^
We'll take two more regular season wins, thank you.
November 13th, 2010 at 7:53 PM ^
I'll stick with the grammar style:
"There is no bad Big Ten wins."
I still think UMASS was a bad win. But we moved on. Ugly game today but you never take Big Ten road wins for granted.
In terms of the karma battle next week, Wisconsin is due for an upset loss after another "run up the score" win.
November 13th, 2010 at 7:59 PM ^
That was sickening. I know they were trying to impress BCS computers (Another reason I hate BCS) but no other team in the Big Ten deserves 83 hung on them. (exception osu and sparty). The scary part though? That was without Clay...
November 13th, 2010 at 8:02 PM ^
Actually, the computers are not allowed by theBCS to take margin of victory into account. They used to, but then the computers started doing crazy things like ranking non-automatic qualifiers ahead of BCS conference schools... so they made them change it. The horror!
November 13th, 2010 at 8:09 PM ^
The computers do not use margin of victory to determine their rankings. The BCS does not allow it because of this exact situation. However, both Sagarin and Massey (two computer poll administrators) say that they do not agree with this, so they determine MOV-free BCS rankings and then their true rankings with MOV included. That 83 points will solely influence human voters and have no impact on the computers.
For the record, I hate the BCS too, but this is not something you can pin on them.
Edit: I'm slow on the response too. But here are links to those two computer polls and you can see two different rankings (one with MOV, one without it).
November 13th, 2010 at 8:55 PM ^
retract my comments from above. Thank you. I wonder if it does "impress" pollsters? Do you think a 6 or 12 game playoff would be better? I do believe that it shouldn't be 64 teams like bball. Too much time away for academics and too much risk on bodies for college athletes.
November 13th, 2010 at 11:15 PM ^
First, it was Indiana. So, I think everyone who votes takes that with a grain of salt. They scored 24 (?) against MSU, so a weighted look says this 83 was an anomaly.
Second, go with the 8 team for a 3 wk span. (oh, you didn't have that for a choice...false dilemma!)
November 13th, 2010 at 9:30 PM ^
having Clay doesn't change them at all. Ball and White have had just as good performances this year. The real issue is how good their offensive line is.
November 13th, 2010 at 8:03 PM ^
Is your reasoning that UMASS is an FCS school?
Well, the potential ACC Champs and top 20 ranked Va Tech LOST to an FCS school at HOME. You can always learn from something when you don't play well. However, much rather spend that film session watching a W!!!
"There is no such thing as a bad win."
November 13th, 2010 at 7:53 PM ^
I mean winning is a beautiful thing. That being said, this was the first game where i was more nervous when we were on offense..than when we were on defense.
I hope we are done turning the ball over.
November 13th, 2010 at 8:22 PM ^
Late in the game I was hoping the offense didn't turn the ball over for a touchdown. I was thinking, "Please just give the defense good enough field position to get a stop."
HA
November 13th, 2010 at 7:55 PM ^
He actually used proper grammar ("There are no bad wins"), but the Freep doctored up the quote.
November 13th, 2010 at 7:56 PM ^
I figured that he said "theres no bad wins." still bad grammar, but more forgivable.
November 13th, 2010 at 8:00 PM ^
I think he literally said "Theirs no bad wins". I can tell by the pronunciation.
November 13th, 2010 at 8:15 PM ^
was theirs know bed wings.
November 13th, 2010 at 9:26 PM ^
I wonder if he was quoted anywhere about going for too instead of a point after on the last TD. Their lucky it didn't have any effect on the game buy missing a point after.
November 13th, 2010 at 7:56 PM ^
I think the our favorite newspaper misquoted him.
Edit : JMblue just beat me.
November 13th, 2010 at 7:56 PM ^
Agreed with RR.
November 13th, 2010 at 7:58 PM ^
November 13th, 2010 at 7:59 PM ^
Watching the game today it seemed as though RR didn't want to show too much on film going into the next 2 weeks. Once it looked like the defense was going to be able to handle their own against Purdue that he decided to keep it simple. I think due to some of the lack of creativity in the offensive game plan hindered the offense some. Sometimes pulling the reigns back a bit can throw off your momentum.
November 13th, 2010 at 8:03 PM ^
means the offensive game plan gets watered down
November 13th, 2010 at 8:09 PM ^
Weather shouldn't matter. You still have to execute. Gotta be able to pitch & catch when the weather is adverse. The good teams do it. Nonetheless, they still didn't have the same wide open playbook that you normally see.
November 13th, 2010 at 8:33 PM ^
Weather shouldn't matter
Really? A monsoon shouldn't change the game plan?
November 13th, 2010 at 11:16 PM ^
I think our dreads got water-logged and it slowed down the offense.
November 13th, 2010 at 8:05 PM ^
RR just pulled out enough to win.
November 13th, 2010 at 8:43 PM ^
RR just pulled out enough to win.
My perverted sense of humor wants to take this quote and run with it, but I'm gonna take the high road this time.
November 13th, 2010 at 9:14 PM ^
We had a 4 point lead until probably less than two minutes remained. Even with an 11 point lead a lot of us were tense that PU would get a quick score and then onside kick it. This thing was not "over" until only a few seconds remained. Why would RR pull the reigns back? I thought just the opposite. He alternated Denard and Tate when each made big mistakes.
November 13th, 2010 at 8:01 PM ^
I suggest we buy the paper. I think based on its current net profits, if we each pony up $10 we should be good.
November 13th, 2010 at 11:18 PM ^
But the buyer got stuck with about $30M in debt, so you might want to rethink that whole buying the freep thing.
November 13th, 2010 at 8:03 PM ^
Just as he said that, No Bad Wins walked through the door. RR just wanted to make sure everyone knew.
November 13th, 2010 at 8:14 PM ^
The end result is an improved number in the W column and the L number staying the same. Any win is a good win, Score.. board..
Did Wisky blow their load for next week in the big house? Lets Hope(pun intended) so.
November 13th, 2010 at 8:17 PM ^
3-9 to 5-7 to 7-3 looks good to me.
November 13th, 2010 at 8:20 PM ^
...And I thought the goal was to win, didn't we win?
November 13th, 2010 at 8:44 PM ^
How are we supposed to jump TCU and Boise State with wins like this? If we keep playing like this, we won't play for a national title this year.
November 13th, 2010 at 8:30 PM ^
Oh look, M16 taking a shot at Rich Rodriguez.
November 13th, 2010 at 8:34 PM ^
RR used a ritual snake oil dance in his wizard hat to call in a storm, bad O and a stout D. Wisky has no frickin' clue what we'll do next week. Most excellent.
November 13th, 2010 at 8:48 PM ^
....he still has to answer as to why the team is playing so crappy and treating the football like it's radioactive and giving it up at will. Having back to back 5 TO games is not good, "irregardless" of the wins.
November 13th, 2010 at 9:11 PM ^
November 13th, 2010 at 9:17 PM ^
For some reason I feel like the grammar is correct. I can't figure out why though, it has been a long day.
November 13th, 2010 at 9:18 PM ^
According to Scout's presser transcript, RR said this:
Coach Rodriguez: “Yeah. There is no bad win. There are bad losses. There are no good losses. It’s a win on the road, in tough conditions and we didn’t play our best. Our defense played better than they had been in a while and our guys hung in there and won the game.”
November 13th, 2010 at 9:39 PM ^
Works for me! Besides, he was hired to coach football not give grammer lessons.
