One. Defensive. Play. Pretty

One. Defensive. Play. Pretty much sums up this season.

This is simply not true,

This is simply not true, Rodriguez has one of the biggest football egos in the game.

Evidence: I'm going to come into a program that has none of my players and stubbornly run a system they are not built for, even though it will mean at least two, possibly bad seasons.

Evidence: No matter how much people tell me I need to recruit defense, I will still have no defensive players in my third year.

Evidence: No matter how many times people tell me the Big Ten is a big, brutal division, I will continue to recruit tiny "diamond in the rough" type defensive players. Who needs to stop the run anyway? I'll just score more points.

It should be clear by now that Rich Rod has quite the football reputation for stubbornness.

"We want the Big Ten

"We want the Big Ten Championship."

Michigan has competed for the Big Ten Championship 1 out of the last 6 seasons. Teams we are on par with in terms of being a program: Oregon State, Purdue, Boston College, Connecticut. Maybe Texas Tech on a good day.

I would love to see RR shove

I would love to see RR shove revenge up my ass as well. Wasn't that supposed to be this year tho - Rich Rod revenge tour!!! oh...wait...the team still sucks complete ass.

If Dee Hart decommits it's

If Dee Hart decommits it's not because of a bunch of fat losers on a blog, it's because the team sucks and can't be competitive with good teams. He doesn't need us to tell him that he can watch us get our ass beat EVERY SATURDAY ON TV. Unless we're playing Purdue, then he'll see us squeak out a win against a horrendous team.

Um, I follow this team. UM

Um, I follow this team. UM senior, which means I've been to every home loss (all 87 of them) since Rich Rod got here, thanks.

Don't worry I'm here. See

Don't worry I'm here. See below.

Our time is coming in a "big

Our time is coming in a "big way". Maybe he means we'll finally only lose to a top Big Ten opponent by 10 points!!! OMG can't wait for next season!!!!! 8-4 with 2 of those losses being AT LEAST SOMEWHAT competitive baby!!!! Michigan football...back on top!!!

"Rawls reports a 2.8 GPA with

"Rawls reports a 2.8 GPA with a 15 ACT".....offers from Central Michigan, Cincinnati, and Toledo.

Am I missing something here? This seems like someone who should be going to play at Northern Illinois or Marshall.

Not to mention WHY AREN'T WE RECRUITING DEFENSE? Not quite sure why we need 15 running backs per class and then we recruit linebackers who weigh less than those running backs do.

You have to REALLY strain to

You have to REALLY strain to consider this progress. However, I'm sure 90% of the MGoBlog community will, somehow, do so.

Delusions. Seriously.

Delusions. Seriously.

Pathetic

You Rich Rod die hards are ridiculous. This guy gave his time, he is actually part of the program, not someone sitting on a board all day playing the same hype video over and over with the "sometimes in the morning" song.

This is what 95% of Michigan fans and former players think of the state of our program right now. There is one segment that is die hard faithful in Rich Rod and it is the segment of people who go on MGoBlog who put together enough Diaries with "amazing statistical analyses" that twist numbers to somehow show Rich Rod will rattle off 15 straight Big Ten titles if we just give him 20 years to build the program.

Man.....we've become Notre

Man.....we've become Notre Dame (sigh).

If you'll notice, by the way, in the games against OSU when we won a bunch, they were favored often, or at least weren't 20 point underdogs. On the other hand, we are a doormat for them. Not even competitive.

Well good thing Mike Martin's

Well good thing Mike Martin's the one who wants to punch me. That actually scares me. If it was any of our other defensive players, on the other hand, I wouldn't be all that concerned. I'd just hold a football and, by pure virtue of habit, they'd never catch me.

Grow up, this isn't even a rivalry anymore.

Yeah, that argument is so

Yeah, that argument is so great. There are no differences between taking over a 9-4 team that just beat the Hiesman trophy winner on a powerhouse team and a taking over a 1-11 team that's the doormat of the Pac 10.

BS

This is such BS. If you guys don't want us to be focusing on Rich Rod's job, because we should be instead focus on OSU, don't blame us. Blame Rich Rod. We don't have to be focusing on his job. But we are. It doesn't have to be a foregone conclusion that we're going to lose to OSU. But it is. And this is not because we want to talk about these things. It's because Rich Rod has been wildly unsuccessful. It's on him.

This is true whether or not you support keeping him another year.

This dude's totally rippin me

This dude's totally rippin me off. It's not me tho.

It's amazing to me how this

It's amazing to me how this board claims to be the "logical, well informed" segment of the Michigan fans, and then gets mad when a guy who knows ten times more about football than any of his says that our defensive players, on the worst defense in Michigan football history, who can't tackle, can't contain, can't keep up, can't make one stop, wouldn't start at Indiana.

I'm gonna go out on a limb. Martin would start at OSU or Indiana. Not one other player on our defense would start at Indiana today. Seriously how could you even question that?

So a lot of you probably know

So a lot of you probably know I've had my complaints about Rich Rodriguez lately. However...

I thought, man, this recruiting class is shaping up to be epic, especially on offense, it sucks that a lot of these recruits won't be experienced in time to play with Denard Robinson.....Then I thought, OH WAIT WE HAVE THE # 1 DUAL THREAT QUARTERBACK WAITING TO TAKE OVER AND PLAY WITH THE #1 AND #3 RUNNING BACKS AND POSSIBLY THE #4 ATHLETE (FROST) ON OFFENSE!!

For all the BS, this Rich Rodriguez thing could wind up very very good. Can we please just beat the damn buckeyes?

Wow this is exactly what a

Wow this is exactly what a State fan would be saying about Michigan 5 years ago. "Michigan is a fraud. Did you see them only beat Ball State by 8! They're barely squeaking by and they would get KILLED by the Buckeyes." How the tables turn. Sucks.

You racked up 17,000 points

You racked up 17,000 points in 15 weeks and you are the first reply to every post I make. Do you do ANYTHING besides this blog?

Not that Crazy

1) MSU Beating OSU - To say Michigan State, a 10-1 team that trounced us at our place would beat another 10-1 team from the same conference at home is not that crazy of a prediction.

2) Craig Roh - Even this board admits that Craig Roh hasn't had a great year. A lot of that has to do with the fact that we didn't have him down on the line for much of the year. But that doesn't change the fact that he hasn't been a particularly good player this year - just an average Big Ten defensive player. "Can't play" is strong language, agreed, but he had some high expectations coming in. I personally think he will meet those expectations in the future, but that doesn't mean he has this year.

3) Rodriguez simply can't recruit - This sounds crazy at first. He has brought in fairly impressive classes the past couple years, and this one is shaping up OK as well, which is impressive given the lack of success Michigan has had on the field. However, just to play devil's advocate, he's not recruiting on par with Florida, Texas, USC, Oregon, OSU, those types of schools. His classes are ranked lower than before he got here, and have decreased every year since he got her.

And most importantly, he hasn't recruited defensive players that have shown they can play (yet). They may show they can play eventually. (I know there are exceptions, I don't need a lecture on how sweet Mike Martin is. He's sweet, but the D blows.)

OMG Stop it the logic is

Dear mwolverinefor life,

OMG Stop it the logic is making me melt!!!!!! Young secondary young secondary young secondary attrition ahh!!!

That's good, I'm looking

That's good, I'm looking forward to next year too. But, let's be honest, we don't have a prolific offense. We put up crazy yardage because we're down 24 and the other team softens up, but the offense doesn't exist when the game is actually attainable.

As for freshmen not starting, next year it'll be the same excuse, just with sophomores. Notice how that has pervaded lately, the whole "Denard is only a sophomore" thing. It's true to an extent. But then again, there's gotta be someone who can play D on this team right?

As you said, one can hope. And c'mon man, I said I was just messin around in the other thread.

Fair enough, but in general

Fair enough, but in general I'm quite positive actually. Just on this board I feel a moral responsibility to bring people back to earth with their future expectations of this team. We're at least 2 years out from competing for a championship, clearly.

And as a side-note, what's with everyone using the "The Who Stay..." line to support the team now. "Those Who Stay" meant if you stay on the team, you will win a Big Ten championship. But those who stayed at Michigan this time never even competed for one. In fact, J. Boren left and won one. So actually, those who left are champions. Those who stayed lost a lotta games. Just a question I've had.

This would matter if we would

This would matter if we would have at least competed with those teams this year. We didn't compete at all. They flattened us. So we will go from flattened to competing, which let's call it 2-2 against those teams then. Throw in another loss against one of ND, San Diego State, Northwestern, or Illinois, and we're looking at a best case 9-3 next year, good for second or third in our Big Ten division and a mediocre bowl game.

Man it was so much sweeter when we were good.

EDIT: Wouldn't have been such a debbie downer if I realized I was the first comment. Sorry bro.

OH MY GOD DO YOU KNOW HOW

OH MY GOD DO YOU KNOW HOW MANY FRESHMEN WE HAVE IN THE SECONDARY??? STOP HATTING!! WE MAY NOT COMPETE FOR A BIG TEN CHAMPIONSHIP TWO YEARS AGO OR LAST YEAR OR THIS YEAR OR NEXT YEAR BUT 2012 WE COULD MAYBE POSSIBLY GET THIRD IN THE BIG TEN!!!! SO STOP HATING!!!

OMG ALL THESE HATERS EXPECT THAT JUST BECAUSE "WE'RE MICHIGAN" WE SHOULD BE IN A POSITION TO WIN THE BIG TEN ONCE A DECADE. LET ME GUESS, NOT WINNING A BIG TEN CHAMPIONSHIP FOR A DECADE WOULD BE "UNACCEPTABLE" - THAT'S WHAT I THOUGHT....IT DOESN'T HAPPEN AUTOMATICALLY, PATIENCE!!!

Chill out y'all I'm just havin fun

Like Rich Rodriguez?

I seem to remember a certain coach of the Michigan football team who threw his team under the bus to come to Michigan.

For purely self-serving reasons.

Do you guys ever get sick of

Do you guys ever get sick of making excuses for how horrible these last few teams have been?

Actually probably not. I just wanted to put out there that personally, I would be sick of it right now.

And your offensive comparison has no merit. We didn't start scoring until they were up by 4 scores and settled into a softer defensive scheme. Our offense is incredibly overrated; it puts up big numbers in this matter every week, same formula (suck when it matters but then score a bunch when the other defense softens up).

YOU MUST BE NEW

You must be new here. You're not allowed to say anything negative about Rich Rodriguez at MGoBlog. You think I'm joking...

"I See Us Winning One"

I've seen something to the effect of "I see us winning one of the next two" or "I have a feeling we're gonna win one of the next two" written all over the place. I don't understand what this adds. A Michigan football fan on a Michigan blog filled with all of the most positive Michigan fans that exist sees us winning one of two....sweet.

I'm not trying to be negative, just objective. On an objective, reasonable basis (other than your "gut"), does anybody really anticipate us winning one of these two games? I mean, Wisconsin and Ohio State are leaps and bounds ahead of us as a program.

Of course on the other hand, any team can beat any team on any given day, and I hope we take both of them. I just don't see any logical basis to anticipate that occurring.

Prague

Anybody else catch the fact that half the video is shot in Prague, Czech Republic? Weird.

EDIT: On second thought, the whole video is shot in Prague.

I'm sorry, that Purdue was

I'm sorry, that Purdue offense was beyond atrocious. Half the time we didn't tackle them, they just knocked each other over. The fact that they scored 16 should be upsetting all of us right now. Not joking.

Man

It's crazy what one win can do for a fanbase. "A chance to narrow the great divide".....how about a chance to MAYBE win the game? They've beaten us the last two times. We are 5-16 in the last three years in the Big Ten. We are favored only because of their terrible luck when it comes to injuries, but I could easily see Purdue pulling this one out.

We're all a little too anxious to get back to the good ole days when there were 8 guarantied wins, we could look down on the rest of the league like we own the place, and we could worry about the other four games. Every single game is a possible loss for this Michigan team.

We're about 3 to 4 plays away from being 3-6 (Notre Dame on the last play, Illinois one play could have changed it, and UMass could very easily have snuck away with that win with one extra turnover).

Right now, Purdue is a better football program than Michigan (that one hurts to say). I think we pull this out tho, I'm gonna go with 41-38.

This class

This class would be unreal, RR's best yet for sure.

Irregardless

Despite what RR and his pressers may have led you to believe "irregardless" still is not a word.

Roh is great at DE.

Sweet!

What We Need: 4 and 5 Star defensive recruits who have to compete with schools like Oklahoma, Texas, Florida, Oregon, Ohio State, USC, Alabama, etc. for.

What We Keep Getting: 2 and 3 Star offensive recruits who have to compete with Eastern Michigan, Temple, and NC State for.

M recruiting just ain't what it used to be.

Same old thing

Man I get kinda sick of these attacks on people who have doubts about the program.  Of course, "rabble rabble Michigan should never have a bad season" is not fair.  "Rabble rabble Michigan should not be aiming for 7-5 in the third year of a coach's tenure" is totally and completely fair.

There are two simple truths:

1) As many have pointed out over and over, Rich Rodriguez should be given some slack for the last two seasons.

2) But now is the time to produce, no more excuses.  Not next year, now.  And I mean produce wins, not yards. Funny thing about getting 522 yards on a team is that the rules say you still have to score more points then them.

If the torches and pitchforks are brought out at the end of the year, it will be on Rich Rod and no one else.  My hope and opinion is that they could still have a very good season this year.

Voice of Reason

Legit question here, sorry it's negative but live with it.  How do we put this in the category of "good thing"? This is an undersized, two-star recruit who is not even rated in the top 25 players in the state of Michigan and who has other offers from 1. Akron, 2. Bowling Green, 3. Buffalo, and 4. Ummmm, that's it.

I get the whole "Rich Rod finds diamonds in the rough!" thing, but that's supposed to be, like, once in a while.  I see the increased number of Buffalo and Akron style guys as a bad sign for this program.

Things you have going for

Things you have going for you:

1) Your GPA - The fact that you go to Western as opposed to say, Columbia, doesn't really matter, which I assume is why you asked the question.  Strangely enough law schools don't care all that much where you went to undergrad, just that your GPA is good.

2) Residency - It sounds like you are a Michigan resident.  M Law doesn't really give too much weight to that, but it gives it a little.

3) Work Experience - Law schools like work experience, and unless you've been sitting around for the last 10 years, it sounds like you have some of that.

Bottom Line: With a 4.0 you would have a shot at Michigan with a 163 or higher.  That does not mean you would have a good shot, but a shot.  You would have a good shot with a 168, and you would almost certainly get in if you can get a 170 or higher and apply early decision.  While many top law schools have cutoffs for the LSAT, say at 168, Michigan tends to take a bit more of an "all around" approach.  Berkeley is similar in this respect.  So right some compelling stories.  If you happen to have an interesting story to tell this will help a lot.

But yeah, if you kill the LSAT you will be in Ann Arbor next year.

Over/Under

Over under on how many people will think they're being witty and creative by responding to defensive threads by posting "over under on defense/gerg threads":

20

Alabama

"Congrats, your team finally won another title last year.  That means you are one year closer to Nick Saban bolting for Michigan."

Could you ever see this happening? (I'm not sure I'd be opposed)

Man we were good.  I need

Man we were good.  I need this to be the case again.  A great defense is just so fun to watch.

Nice effort and everything

Nice effort and everything but I might just stop looking at football videos if I see another one with this speech in it.  Sooooo many.  Like I said nice effort though.

Edit

Wrong thread, meant the "RichRod Rumors" thread...

I don't wan to bite too much

I don't wan to bite too much at this, so all I'm gonna say is this: I truly believe there is no way we will have less than 6 wins going into the OSU game, probably will have at least 7.

I think you're right, that's

I think you're right, that's how I should probably should have framed it.  Very pumped for THIS season as well.

If they can just hold up and

If they can just hold up and be semi-mediocre we could have a great year.

This Article

This Article = ON POINT

I think that would be just

I think that would be just too weird for me honestly.  Plus Big Ten play doesn't start that soon, the whole conference would have to change how they do out of conference games

In general, as far as a championship game goes, I don't understand what the difference is between a rematch from the previous week or a rematch from 3/4/5 weeks ago anyway.  Leave it last.
