Rodriguez vs Harbaugh: A visual appeal for hate week

Submitted by chunkums on

In light of the fact that we play OSU this week, the UM fanbase should be united.  We may be annoyed by each others' opinions, but we need each other like Rocky needed Apollo in Rocky III.  Lets forget all these arguments at least for a week please.

just when my faith in mgobloggers was at an all-time low, you go and totally redeem yourself...Aspen it is Lloyd

*note - if a picture from when Harry met Lloyd appears below this, my faith will be lost again

If you think about it, all these rumors about coach Rod were probably started by Ohio State.  They would love to get us to kill each other all week and to stir the shit.

Did Harbaugh also field an FCS level defense in his third year at Stanford? How about his special teams? Were they just as inept as RR's are in this, the third year of his program?

Also, let's take a closer look at their records. Sure, on the surface they look similar, but how many of those wins came in conference, when it really counts? Harbaugh's conference record after three years was 13-14. RR has six wins.

How about signature wins? By his third year, Harbaugh owned not one, but two victories against USC. Did I mention they both came on the road? The first came as a 39.5 point underdog and then he did it again as an 11 point underdog. Oh, and that second victory was on the heels of an underdog victory against a Rose Bowl bound Oregon team. Good luck finding anything similar to that in RR's Michigan resume.

Let's face it. When it comes to comparisons, clearly there are no comparisons.

Harbaugh fielded a team with solid depth on offense and defense when he took over. Rich Rod did not. Injuries and player transfers added to the horrible defensive depth that we currently have. You can blame that part all on Rich Rod which would be completely wrong, it was not all of his fault but many seem to think he could have somehow begged and made certain players stay that wanted to transfer.

Harbaugh came into a better situation at Stanford, Michigan had lost way more players when RR took over. So yeah comparing the two situations is unfavorable to RR. Harbaugh had it much better, look at the depth chart of the team he took over and how many of those same players were young, talented players that allowed Harbaugh to field a more veteran team by his 3rd year. Look at the depth chart on Michigan's roster and see how many freshman and sophomores are now starting for Michigan in RR's 3rd year.

Comparing the two situations and saying Michigan should be better than Stanford is just showing how ignorant some of the Michigan fans are about the two situations. It's not like Harbaugh pulled off some miracle. RR had a tougher challenge and has a similar record to Harbaugh by his 3rd year.

Harbaugh has more potential in his socks than richrod. took a losing non scholarship USD to super record before leaving... really ... they surf at USD !!!  he's pounded USC twice now. Michi has the worst D in school history by a landslide. bo is spinning in his grave when our porous d hits the field. LOL

come on....the situation at Stanford was much worse.  Nobody can deny Harbaugh's success at Stanford and he did it without those SEC academic standards.

I still want Rodriguez another year to prove his ability, but if Brandon delivers Harbaugh it is hard to argue based on the facts we can see.  My issue with the "Let's Fire this Guy" rant in this case or in any other is there isn't necessarily a better option.  However, Harbaugh looks like a perfect choice.

the situation was much worse at stanford.  i can't argue with that.  but wins are the bottom line and JH is one year ahead on the same trajectory as RR is now.  my point is only numerical.  and the numbers show improvement along the same lines for both coaches.

3....5.....7....(2011 ??)

we certainly aren't going to get worse next year with 19/22 returning.

In 2007 Stanford's offense had 7 returning starters.  In 2008 Michigan's had 3.

In 2007 Stanford's defense had 8 returning starters.  In 2008 Michigan's had 7.

And I'd say that the remaning talent on the roster at that point was about equal to what Stanford had at the time.  I don't get your argument that Stanford was MUCH worse off...

This is such BS. If you guys don't want us to be focusing on Rich Rod's job, because we should be instead focus on OSU, don't blame us. Blame Rich Rod. We don't have to be focusing on his job. But we are. It doesn't have to be a foregone conclusion that we're going to lose to OSU. But it is. And this is not because we want to talk about these things. It's because Rich Rod has been wildly unsuccessful. It's on him.

This is true whether or not you support keeping him another year.

Well good thing Mike Martin's the one who wants to punch me. That actually scares me. If it was any of our other defensive players, on the other hand, I wouldn't be all that concerned. I'd just hold a football and, by pure virtue of habit, they'd never catch me.

Grow up, this isn't even a rivalry anymore.

This is such an absurd statement. So this wasnt a rivalry when in the 90s Michigan dominated osu? Everyone seems to forget that this RIVALRY almost always goes in spurts. The tables are turning for the good of the men in maize n' blue. You are a pathetic excuse for a "fan". I dont consider you a fan. Do not ever watch another Michigan game. We dont need people that count out their team before the game happens. Did you pick Wisconsin to beat us in 2008 as well?

Man.....we've become Notre Dame (sigh).

If you'll notice, by the way, in the games against OSU when we won a bunch, they were favored often, or at least weren't 20 point underdogs. On the other hand, we are a doormat for them. Not even competitive.

JoeBenczarski

November 25th, 2010 at 1:41 PM ^

So we weren't competitive in 2006? We were competitive last year had we not had a freshman mistake filled game. Your argument is absurd. And if you think we are going to lose by 20, well i dont know if you're an idiot, but your sounding like one. This game is always competitive. It is why it is a rivalry, when game day comes around you throw out all the records and stats, its about who wants it more, who wants to get dirty. On Saturday we will find out who wins. Until then no one knows.

Look over the results, see the trends. UM is due for a win, if not this year, next year. By the way, osu went 15 games without beating us. Thats a lot more games before they can say that about us. Oh, and if you say, that was so long ago. Would not they say the same thing about us losing 6 yrs in  a row in 50 years?

Just become a Buckeye fan you negative piece of trash.  Every major program has gone through a rebuilding stage.  UM got lucky and avoided it for almost 50 years.  It's our time now  so why don't you focus on the positive things happening in our program? There's a bunch of them ya know!!

I'll wait until Monday to make up my mind about things. Until then it's time to focus on ending tOSU's streak against us.

We may be annoyed by each others' opinions, but we need each other like Rocky needed Apollo in Rocky III.

Or the way school needs teachers, or the way Kathy needed Regis.
