OT - What's up with Kansas Football?
I can't figure Kansas out anymore. Lose to North Dakota, win vs. Georgia Tech, now getting dominated by Southern Miss? I still think Turner Gill is a good coach and just needs some time to do his thing (Sound familiar?)...but man they are bad! Like Minnesota could beat them bad! . I bet they miss Mark the Michelin Man Mangino down in Lawrence, but I'm sure they have a lot more room and food now.
BTW Guess who led (as a coach) Kansas to a 10-0 season in 1899...Fielding Yost.
Yost was at Nebraska (formerly the BUGEATERS), Kansas, Stanford and San Jose State before Michigan.

The bugeaters? I guess you have to build that muscle. And, you know what they say, it's a good source of protein.

and a bullbat isn't a bat, its a nighthawk, which isn't actually a hawk, its a nightjar...and a nightjar........sheeesh, never mind!

isn't a whip-poor-will a nighthar? Or is it a french soccer player that pretends it is hurt?

How about: Georgia Tech is horribly over rated?

This. GT only has a good record every year because they play in the shitty ACC.

Michigan beat Wisconsin and were close to beating Utah in 2008. They lost to Toledo. Some teams just suck and still get a win.

well, they suck

Turner Gill bit off a little more then he could chew.

Give me a break. If his results are the same going into year 3, then you can make that comment. Otherwise you sound just like everyone else that said the same thing about getting rid of RR.

Mangino. Yeah, he was brash and fat and foul mouthed, but hey he won games.
I don't think Gill is going to work out there.

I really like Turner Gill... but I absolutely hate Kansas... So I kinda hope it works out (to some degree) and he pulls a Lane Kiffin on them (although that doesn't exactly seem to be his style).

hating Kansas in football?

I think Kansas is a temporary stop for Mr Gill. If he does anything at all with that program, he'll move on to greener pastures. Heck, even a Big East stop along the way would be a promotion. I wish him well.

Gutless coaching isn't going to help them any. Tonight, trailing 31-16, they faced a 4th and 19 inside their 10 with 1:45 to go. They punted. Now, that's admittedly a tough situation to be in, but how can you just give up?
September 18th, 2010 at 12:30 AM ^
given that situation I might punt as well, I understand not giving up, but I'd rather get the ball the hell away from my endzone, and pray fro a defense to miraculously sprout out of thin air than go for it, miss and have an even more pathetic looking loss.
September 18th, 2010 at 1:38 AM ^
Your last line - worrying about an even more pathetic loss - that can't enter your thought processes as a coach. No one will remember the score, but they'll remember who won or lost. Either way here your odds are slim, but they're still a little better if you try for the first down.

But at least Mangino's found himself another job as the Syracuse Mascot
September 18th, 2010 at 12:12 AM ^
Wait, you mean he wasn't before?
September 18th, 2010 at 12:18 AM ^
he was more or less just moonlighting, I mean being the head football coach at Kansas pays about as much as being the night shift manager at Walmart... it's about as interesting too.

which is which?

It kind of happens when you lose all your play makers and bring in a new coach. I speak from 1st hand experience. (2008)

I don't know what's up with KU football, but I do know they owe me some money from last night.
