And here's another Denard stat:
He leads the country in rushing with 455 yards, which is 41 more than second place Kendall Hunter. This includes runningbacks; the next quarterback on the list is Taylor Martinez with 284 (171 yards behind Denard).

Will Denard have 1,000+ yards rushing going into the MSU game? I'd go with yes right now but next week will tell us how much pt he will receive.
September 12th, 2010 at 2:56 PM ^
Ehh, I don't think he'll get enough attempts against UMass to gain enough ground to get to 1,000 five games in, in my opinion. He could certainly get to 1,500 on the year though.
September 12th, 2010 at 3:44 PM ^
I agree that he won't get that many attempts in the next couple of weeks, but that doesn't mean he won't get a lot of yards in the next couple of weeks.
September 12th, 2010 at 5:59 PM ^
Against the likes of UMASS and Bowling Green, Denard can get 200yds on 7 rushes or less.
September 12th, 2010 at 4:01 PM ^
I'm assuming during UMass and BGSU we'll be focusing heavily on RB reps as we try to get the running game in gear. Ideally we'll knock out Indiana early as well and can afford to spent the second half trying to get the running game back in gear. I'm hoping for three games were Denard has at most 300 yards total per game.
Also we need to get Devin reps since we seem intent on burning his redshirt and he appears to be our #2. Hopefully he can play the last half of the next two games.
September 12th, 2010 at 4:22 PM ^
That's my guess too, I think that next week Denard only will have around five designed runs. The coaches probably want to keep him healthy and spread the ball around to get more people involved.
September 12th, 2010 at 5:28 PM ^
The only thing Denard seemed to struggle with was the deep ball against ND. He had a few overthrows and Roundtree had that one he dropped. If we see Denard for any period of time I assume it will be so he can work on deep routes with the WRs at game speed. Poor UMass and BGSU might get torched for a dozen or so long passing plays while we get Denard and the WRs in sync.
September 12th, 2010 at 5:56 PM ^
Denard seems to be missing "touch" on some of the downfield passes. All the downfield throws seem to be pretty flat and pretty high velocity. I'm sure he'll learn this as he goes along. The throw that is sticking in my mind is when he had the seam route to Roundtree wide open and the ball got knocked down by Teo who was 5+ yards behind Roundtree. A bit of elevation and he would have cleared Teo and had an easy touchdown. But, then again, we wouldn't have had the last second heroics for the second year in a row.

Yes, best to use these next two games to get the running game going. Imagine how difficult it would be to defend an attack where on any given snap, it could be a Denard pass, a crazy Denard run, or a hand-off to Smith or Shaw. Defensive coordinators would get Denarded just thinking about it!
September 12th, 2010 at 2:58 PM ^
say no, simply for the fact that he will most likely only be playing 4-5 quarters of football in the next two weeks.
September 12th, 2010 at 3:00 PM ^
He's probably not gonna play much next week, and the two weeks after that he may not be needed much either. Also, Rodriguez will probably want to figure out our RB situation by giving them a lot of carries. I'll say he comes into the MSU game with around 750-800 yards rushing. Of course, he could run for 90 yards a carry on three carries for 270 yards next week and totally make this prediction look stupid.
September 12th, 2010 at 3:19 PM ^
I'm inclined to think "no" but he could also break a few 50+ yard runs in addition to scrambling and then sit out the 2nd half of the next two games to maintain pace. Not likely, but possible.
September 12th, 2010 at 2:57 PM ^
He's also leading in attempts.
September 12th, 2010 at 3:04 PM ^
I'll take it wih 8 ypc.

NCAA.org has all the cool stats. http://web1.ncaa.org/mfb/mainpage.jsp
You can click based on categories...for example, current and former Mich qb are 1st, 6th and 10th in total offensive yards. http://web1.ncaa.org/mfb/natlRank.jsp?year=2010&rpt=IA_playertotoff&sit…
Drob is #4th in the nation for all purpose runners, but the other 3 guys ahead return kickoffs/punts and recieving yards, Drob doesn't. http://web1.ncaa.org/mfb/natlRank.jsp?year=2010&rpt=IA_playeraprun&site…
You can also click on team stats and see where Michigan is ranked in the nation and in conference, plus get individual stats/rankings too. http://web1.ncaa.org/football/exec/rankingSummary?year=2010&org=418

Yes, but do they punt?

On that list of total offense NCAA leaders, No. 10 is...Steven Threet?
No. 6 is Ryan Mallett...

OK State also played Washington State and Troy in their first two weeks

Yesterday somebody posted that Denard had more total yards in the ND game than any team in the Big 10 had this weekend. I'm wondering if anyone had the source of that information.
September 12th, 2010 at 3:29 PM ^
It appears this is correct
September 12th, 2010 at 3:31 PM ^
Just do a quick scan of box scores, that'll get ya the information you're looking for.
September 12th, 2010 at 3:48 PM ^
In two weeks, Denard has more total offense than MSU has against WMU and FAU. Ballin.
September 12th, 2010 at 4:12 PM ^
Ah, crickets.
September 12th, 2010 at 4:45 PM ^
What's "WMU and FAU"?
September 12th, 2010 at 3:58 PM ^
Almost 900 total yards in two weeks is insatiable. The amazing thing about it is that Denard and this offense still have a lot of room to grow. Once we have our Steve Slaton it's a wrap..

I've found that that statistic can be satiated quite easily. It really isn't very demanding.
