Herbie really has it out for us
kirk herbie i guess really does not like our chances tomorrow. On CFB live his impact player is toddman from uconn. his upset alert is Michigan. also says that uconn has the one of the most balanced offenses in the country.
he did pick uconn towin the BE, but he didnt seem all that impressed with M either
September 3rd, 2010 at 7:55 PM ^
piss on herbie! We're gonna win this thing!
September 3rd, 2010 at 8:52 PM ^
Thats why we knocked him out.
September 3rd, 2010 at 9:34 PM ^
We got 99 problems but Herbstreit ain't one...
September 3rd, 2010 at 7:56 PM ^
He's payed for his opinion, which is usually pretty good. Herbstreit has been more supportive towards us than I thought he would be. Although he doesn't seem biased, I beleive he subconciously is, from the concussion we gave him.
September 3rd, 2010 at 9:13 PM ^
Payed? YOUR?
September 3rd, 2010 at 7:57 PM ^
Many pundits think we are going to lose. I think Herbie is just telling it like he sees it... I don't mind being the underdog.
September 3rd, 2010 at 7:58 PM ^
I know he's an easy target, but the guy has always been pretty fair. I remember he was the main guy rallying for UofM to be in the 06 NC game.
September 3rd, 2010 at 8:27 PM ^
that had anything to do with the fact that he knew Florida would win by 50 points, do you?
September 3rd, 2010 at 8:51 PM ^
September 3rd, 2010 at 8:01 PM ^
Most polls have UConn in the 20s & Mich in the 40s. Clearly, the bettors aren't buying overly backward-looking polls.
e.g. http://www.cbssports.com/collegefootball/polls/120/index2
September 3rd, 2010 at 8:01 PM ^
He's been against us all week. All I've heard him talk about this year is how bad we're going to be and how UConn and ND is going to put it to us. But then of course he salivates over TUOS picking them for the title game even if they lose to Miami. Talk about one of the worst homers ever. I don't know how Desmond can stand being on set with him somtimes.
September 3rd, 2010 at 9:44 PM ^
OSU is ranked second, has a lot of experience, etc... Is he suppose to ignore that merely because he want to osu. .....Rag on Herbie for all his other issues, but his attitude toward Michigan has been fair.
Of course, others rag on Desmond cause he picks against Michigan instead of being a "homer."
September 4th, 2010 at 8:17 AM ^
ND was going to put it to us last year too with the all-everything offense..............
September 3rd, 2010 at 8:02 PM ^
all the game from about 30,000 feet, never venturing to the treetops, like Brian does about Michigan. For example, he said "all of uconn's wr are back" as part of his prose. In fact, they are not. Their top two left, and the returning guy snared 22 balls last year. What is laughable is that he thinks the following is some how profound "michigan fans better not take Uconn lightly, this isn't some mac school coming in here....this is a good team" Duhhhh....like we havent talked about them, ad nausem, since Jan freakin one! Clearly, Espn's headquarters proximity to Uconn is part of this as well........
September 3rd, 2010 at 9:30 PM ^
Of course, it helps that Brian only has to cover one team, while Herbstreit is expected to know something about all 120. He's not going to get all the details about every game right.
September 3rd, 2010 at 8:03 PM ^
Desmond picked UCONN too. That makes me sad.
September 3rd, 2010 at 8:06 PM ^
Desmond doesn't follow us very closely so it doesn't surprise me at all.
September 3rd, 2010 at 8:29 PM ^
So if the Ohio State guy picks against us, it's because he's biased, and if the Michigan guy picks against us, it's because he doesn't follow the team. This is a tremendous universe you've created for yourself there, where every action reinforces whatever you already believe.
September 3rd, 2010 at 9:08 PM ^
I call that life on the internets.
September 3rd, 2010 at 9:16 PM ^
There was an article earlier in the week in which Desmond said himself he doesn't know much about the team. Just droppin facts.
September 3rd, 2010 at 9:45 PM ^
but being naive....
September 3rd, 2010 at 8:10 PM ^
Lou picked us, oh wait, thats bad.
September 3rd, 2010 at 8:31 PM ^
that's the kiss of death right there...
September 3rd, 2010 at 9:18 PM ^
If Corso picks us then we're really screwed
September 3rd, 2010 at 8:31 PM ^
LOL that was hilarious...
September 3rd, 2010 at 8:16 PM ^
Discount us. Please.
After all, it's not like we've demonstrated a historical knack for winning or anything.
September 3rd, 2010 at 8:17 PM ^
I'm not sure he "really has it out for us" as much as he's, you know, seen the product on the field the last two years and doesn't fancy our chances against a veteran BCS team with conference title hopes.
Can't really say I blame the guy.
September 3rd, 2010 at 8:21 PM ^
... Their opinions are worth nothing now, worth little ever. The next time the sun rises will be the beginning of a new season for Michigan Football... and I believe our ship is coming in boys.
September 3rd, 2010 at 10:22 PM ^
I have actual money on Michigan winning. I don't take Herbie on Michigan too credibly...that ringing in his head likely informs his decision making...
September 3rd, 2010 at 8:23 PM ^
To hell with Herbstreit. He is a ridiculous OSU homer. They shoud get rid of him and give Dez his job.
September 3rd, 2010 at 8:31 PM ^
Herbstreit is usually pretty good.
September 3rd, 2010 at 8:36 PM ^
Had to neg you there, because I disagree with what you said. It really is that simple.
September 3rd, 2010 at 9:19 PM ^
Six, I think you're slightly off base. Kirk is usually unbiased and I think of all ESPN announcers, he's shown us the most love (at least pre- RR). It's Mark May that is the evil doer, good sir, and you know it! Deep in your heart lies the answer.
September 3rd, 2010 at 9:57 PM ^
Mark May is one of the worst analysts in the game. I wonder if he will have strong praise for USC after all those sanctions.
September 3rd, 2010 at 10:05 PM ^
He's just playing the role they ask him. May was fine until Trev Alberts left. Then ESPN made him replace Alberts as the designated village idiot.
September 3rd, 2010 at 8:26 PM ^
Everyone is wrong when they think Michigan is going to lose.
Everyone is right when they choose Michigan to win. Lou Holtz is right for once, and Herbie is dead wrong.
September 3rd, 2010 at 8:28 PM ^
he is a bum and always picks UM to lose, and he sucked at OSU
GOD BLUE
September 3rd, 2010 at 8:35 PM ^
This simply can't be true. Kirk Herbstreit is a seasoned and unbiased member of the College Football crew at ESPN, the most non-objective leader of non-partisan sports coverage in America. How could Honest Kirk ever possibly say or imply anything because it favors his own personal allegiances and agenda?????
In other news, I hear that Jim Tressel actually sleeps between Kirk and his wife at night.
September 3rd, 2010 at 8:41 PM ^
Kirk's a real dreamboat.
September 3rd, 2010 at 9:35 PM ^
He's been decent toward us over the years. I don't agree with him in this case but it's not an unreasonable prediction to make.
September 3rd, 2010 at 8:41 PM ^
Herbie is like most national pundits, and even local ones. They don't know what to make of Michigan. These experts don't want to stick their necks out on an unknown.
Michigan beats UCONN and ND, the talking heads will be forced to give Michigan their due, even Herbie... at least until league play starts. Then it will be how poor Michigan, is about to get manhandled by all the big bad boogie men of the B10.
September 3rd, 2010 at 9:13 PM ^
Don't worry about it. Herbie will mea culpa if we kick UConn's ass.
September 3rd, 2010 at 10:03 PM ^
I'll help you out with an edit:
WHEN we kick UCONN's ass!
September 3rd, 2010 at 9:38 PM ^
an OSU mouthpiece along with Robert Smith. Herbie has become less and less accurate and reliable in his reporting on Michigan in recent years.
Starting with "Breaston brings nothing to the table "(in the middle of the hype leading to the biggest M v OSU showdown in decades), to Les Miles will be the next Michigan head coach.
Tressel is in his ear, and his comments about Michigan simply should not be accepted with anything but skepticism and maybe a little paranoia.
September 3rd, 2010 at 9:47 PM ^
are not actually a little too paranoid....
September 4th, 2010 at 2:20 AM ^
Don't you realize Herbstreit's predication is part of the international communist conspiracy to sap and impurify all of our precious bodily fluids?
September 3rd, 2010 at 9:51 PM ^
No big surprise here, before we beat Indiana last year he had us pegged for a new years day bowl.. Now he thinks we are terrible pretty much for what we did last year. Now we just have to prove them wrong. Hopefully the team does that tomorrow.
September 3rd, 2010 at 10:11 PM ^
Herbie is entitled to make an honest pick but I think he has been piling on Michigan more than usual this week. He may just REALLY like UConn's football team (picked to win conference, Toddman breakout player, upset win over Michigan). Or, he may just be following the local Columbus rhetoric which seems to be louder this season than it has before the past two.
The bush league Columbus radio shows have spent an unusual amount of time talking about how terrible Michigan will be this year, how Rodiriguez is sure to be fired in November, etc. etc. Today they laughed at our "marriage to the 3-3-5 defense". Almost makes me think they know we're close to turning the corner.
September 3rd, 2010 at 11:21 PM ^
i can't believe it! an ESPN guy picked against us!??!?! Oh the humanity!!!! Whatever shall we do?!?!??!?!?
Who gives a rats ass? Go out and win the fucking game...Herbie is actually among the better talking heads, but that ain't saying much. Holth sounds like he escaped from the loony bin at this point, and May is a cipher. Their all pretty much worthless...so who cares? We won't know what we've got or what UConn's got till around 6:30pm EST. Until then lets focus on the important things like getting ready for tailgates and watching parties and making sure the beer is cold and the queso is spicy :)
September 3rd, 2010 at 11:23 PM ^
oh, and i know these things tend to be a flavor of the week kind of deal where you like him or hate him depending on who he picks (which is pretty retarded) - but Herbie will always be okay in my book for one of the all time great commentaries during a game:
"And that is why you are Michigan State" - after one of many collossal chokes (ND?)
