Michigan Stadium Capacity Announced at 109,901
[press release]
When the University of Michigan football season opens on Sept. 4 against Connecticut, Michigan Stadium will once again reclaim the title of the largest stadium in the United States for college and/or professional football. The seating capacity will be 109,901 for 2010 when the historic home of Wolverine football will have the bulk of the renovations completed.
“The stadium structures on the east and west side will be complete and all new premium seats will be on line,” said Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Dave Brandon. “We are very excited to have the club seats and suites completed for the upcoming season and we continue to get great reaction from fans who tour those seating areas.”
Certain sections will be adjusted for the 2010 season as aisles and seats are widened on the east side of the stadium. Similar modifications inside the seating bowl will be phased in over the next few seasons. Hand rails will also be added in the aisle ways.
“The upper concourses on the east and west sidelines should also make a huge improvement to circulation, and we are happy to add the new restrooms and concessions in those areas,” added Brandon.
New Record, here we come
Seems pretty small to me...
/sarcasm
What exactly was the capacity before renovations? 106K and change?
But lower (106 and change) during construction.
After all, we routinely packed between 3,000 and 6,000 people beyond "capacity." Hell, we typically exceeded 107,501 for games against Delicious Snackycake U and Indiana.
I'd guess an average of 113,000, and peaking around 115,000?
I'm thinking an average of 114,500 and a peak of 116,500. If we can go undefeated before the MSU game, the attendance will be off the charts for that one.
This is what you get when you update the stadium. More capacity. Where's the tradition in that? SAVE THE BIG HOUSE!!!!!!!!!!!
/sarcasm
is get every single person there to at least speak in their "outside" voice, and maybe we can be the loudest stadium for once.
Are the people indoors (i.e. suites) allowed to use their outdoor voices?
Well it looks like they still saved a seat for Crisler. How you like that tradition, Pollack?
I would have liked to see another seat added for Bo.
Well I think Bo would respond to that suggestion with, "GODDAMMIT! TO HELL WITH THAT! I'M NOT A FACE MAN!"
RIP Bo.
How much are we going to lose when the widen the seats?
I was down at the open house today and one of the tour guides said this year is the biggest the stadium will be and over the next four years while they finish widinig the aisles. The capacity will dip to around 108,000, but they are talking about adding more seats in the endzones.
Well here's a little math,
Considering the stadium was at 107,501 when we had the all time record of 112,118 vs. OSU, that's a difference of 4617.
Take 109,901+4617 and you get 114,518.....enough said.
I wonder how many new staff members there will be considering people need to work in the suites and on the new concourses. Add them in and 115k could be realistic for the MSU game.
I believe they were looking to hire about 200 more.
Well here's a little more math,
The stadium was at 107,501 with a record attendance of 112,118 that is about 104% of stadium capacity now multiply 109,901 by 1.04 and you get 114,297
Looks better. Couldn't find space for 100 more seats?
Yeah, but now we have a palindrome for a capacity. And that's pretty neat-o in my book.
And it leetspeak it spells loggol. I'm not sure what that is, but I bet it's awesome.

That's a big stadium
How many will it seat for hockey?
Sounds like that includes some of the seats having already been expanded, too, so we shouldn't go much, if any, further below 109,001 once the renovations are 100% complete for 2011.
Now we can focus on how many seats we're going to add to go with the Godzillatrons.
if we could just keep the tOSU fans in one corner! Someone please address this before they come back!!!
Just glue a tin of Skoal to the seats you want them to stay in and your problem will be solved.
We can create seating for them out of the old troughs. Perhaps just outside the iron gates.
They would probably just poop in them.
And order is restored to the world once again. Anyone else think there was a correlation between 2 of the worst season in 40+ years and NOT having the biggest stadium in the country??? hmmm?????
I feel much better.
This is beautiful.
So if the seating capacity is supposed to go down this year, then it's entirely possible that the new attendance record will be made at the UM-MSU game, and that it will be untouched for a while.
I guess playing in front of the biggest crowd ever would be a decent consolation prize for MSU.
it will be untouched for a while.
Wrong. It will last until next year's OSU game. Then...it will stand for a while.
Pride, bitches. Pride.
Biggest stadium in the country... things are finally getting back to normal around here.
