Former HC with outstanding OC credentials. Despite a limited Dee Hart for only 1 year, CSU was 500 yd + and JM helped develop young talent at Bama into a juggernaut.. UM has a grewat set of position coaches and experienced staff. Young talent from 2017 will turn into high-performing units in 2018. Go Blue.

The offensive game planning thing worries me a little. I hope we get away from having umpteen OCs. Until I hear Drevno or Pep have changed assignments, I’m going to assume we still have four co-OCs

McElwain coordinated great offenses at Bama before Bama was Bama. When he took over as OC, their talent level was very good, but not like it is today. He also did really well as a head coach at Colorado State, where his team ran a spread. Maybe the guy just isn't cut out to be a head coach at an elite program. The Peter principle is a very reall thing. Here were the recruiting classes he was dealing with at Bama:

2004: #15

2005: #18

2006: #11

2007: #10  - Saban hired

2008: #1 - McElwain hired

Regarding his OC ability, here's what we have:

Bama Pre-McElwain:

#56 total OFEI not available

#67 OFEI --> Saban year 1

------------------------

Bama McElwain

#14 OFEI

#6 OFEI

#6 OFEI

#7 OFEI

As a head coach at CSU with a spread offense:

CSU Pre-McElwain:

#103 OFEI

#112 OFEI

---------------------------------

CSU McElwain:

#120 OFEI

#68 OFEI

#11 OFEI

As a head coach at Florida:

Ass. Just lots of ass.

I really do. We just hired the former HC of Florida to coach WRs, that looks great on paper. But he fucked 5 sharks in front of Craig James or something like that. I will reserve judgement until this time next year...then I will update you guys on my feelings.

Hopefully, his WR coaching ability can make up for his recruiting mediocrity. If we weren’t hiring a new coordinator, I’d have tried to find a young up and coming WR coach that is a good recruiter. Granted, I don’t know who those candidates would be, but it’s not my job
