I'll bet on the former. Michigan in your bowl means lots of tickets sold and lots of TV viewers.
December 3rd, 2017 at 3:08 PM ^
As Nick B just finished saying on Twitter, it was likely a choice between Michigan's big ratings and fan base or MSU's smaller version of that. Looks like Outback went for Michigan.
Also, McMurphy has been saying for a week Michigan is a lock to the Outback. Bloomin' Onions for all!

Not going there to look, but wonder if the Sparty fans are angry on their blog.

They're too salty to understand that the majority of us wanted to go to the Holiday Bowl instead. I think we would've looked forward to some Harbaugh/Leach press conferences.
Maybe one day, they will stop being so preoccupied with us to realize that they actually got the game/matchup we wanted.

We have a specific thread about their bowl placement even though we have a bowl selection thread already in place (twice as many posts in this thread) and you went to their website to see how salty they were.
Pot meet kettle?

if its Pinstripe, i would refuse. at 8 and 4 You should not go to the Pinstripe Bowl.
December 3rd, 2017 at 3:08 PM ^
You don't refuse a bowl bid in 2017 (I think someone did it recently, but it's stupid), but I feel you. Fuck the Pinstripe Bowl.
We're in the Outback though.

Although I agree the Pinstripe might be a bit of a downer if that scenario unfolded, there's no way anyone is too proud to turn down the revenue and the extra practice. If you were a coach, you would be seen as a fool for doing so and justly so.

Outback took us over MSU. No B1G team in the Citrus when there's a B1G team in the Orange (Wisconsin).

Looks like there is no B1G team in a January bowl game except for us...

Washington getting picked for the Fiesta Bowl killed that. Stanford was only going to make the Holliday Bowl if there was only one Pac 12 team in the NY6. Once there were two, Stanford was booked to the Alamo Bowl.

Watching Michigan on January 1st>watching Michigan on December 28th.

Michigan on Jan 1 at mid-day: pride, hope, surrounded by family/friends and food.
Michigan on Dec 28 at 10pm: Shame, in a basement.

I don't care about most fans--I care about watching Michigan, as do most people who care about watching Michigan, and it's pretty rad to wake up on New Year's Day and turn on a Michigan bowl game.

Of course we will all watch! We want to see Peters (hopefully) and some of the other young guys progressing. Think of this way: would you watch the Spring Game? Well this is a helluva lot more compelling than that.

funny respect and disrespeckt. Going to try to make it back for SMU and Nebraska next year. As long as we win the Bowl game its ok with me.

We would be playing a ranked, 9-3 Washington State team in the Holiday Bowl. That win would mean much more than beating South Carolina. This sucks.
We also have to listen to Sparty whining and bringing up the regular season result again.

SCAR is not good. I've watched them a little bit this year and was not impressed. 8-4 because NC State was one of those teams that could have won big but also was capable of losing to almost anyone ... and the SEC East was historically pathetic. So don't overread that headline 'W' or their record.
They really, really didn't beat anyone this year. That #107 ranking for their offense is not misleading ... they were very unimpressive on the hoof.
This ought to be a game where we can get a good bit of traction for Peters to build from.

We didn't beat anyone either. It will be a good matchup.

South Carolina is 66th in S&P. We're gonna win by multiple scores.

I would not be surprised if our offense looked much improved with a month off to prepare and get guys (especially Peters) healthy.
December 3rd, 2017 at 4:53 PM ^
I'm sure Jim isn't going to take a 5th year senior out of the starting lineup for the first time all year in his final game, buuuuut...I'd like to see Ruiz at Center and Onwenu at RG. Let the interior three practice and play together for the bowl.
