Agreed. The hit on Peters was fine, according to the current rules of football. People are going to get hurt in football. There's no way around it.
If Peters hadn't been hurt, I don't think so many people would be claiming this was a dirty hit. As Michigan fans, our eyes probably would have been on the OL for completely whiffing on the stunt.

Do you think an NFL ref would have thrown the flag?
If it were Brady, Rodgers, etc?
November 19th, 2017 at 12:38 PM ^
Rodgers broke his collarbone earlier this year, and no flag was thrown.
November 19th, 2017 at 1:00 PM ^
Yeah I saw that one, but, do you feel that hit was a similar hit?
November 19th, 2017 at 8:23 PM ^
Yep. Very similar, except Rodgers was on the move and Peters was in the pocket.

got a 15 yard penalty for the same thing earlier this season.
Call them consistently one way or the other way.

..not on the initial hit but the continued grind/ drive into the turf afterwards was over the top.
That tape should be sent into the league office... can't abuse a QB like that
November 19th, 2017 at 12:22 PM ^
seemed like hit was big, but legal. Worst part seemed to be that little extra bounce/push he gave at the end, while laying on him (or getting him, don't remember exactly).
November 19th, 2017 at 12:25 PM ^
To Van Ginkel's credit, he also immediately started waving for the training staff when he saw that Peters was injured.
November 19th, 2017 at 12:30 PM ^
I don't know if i wasn't watching close enough, or if I was focused on the wrong thing, but I thought it was an Aaaron Rodgers'-type collarbone injury at first, the way Peters had his left arm out to brace and they landed on it. So I was surprised Van Ginkel was calling people out, then you hear they were checking him for a head injury (and reports that Peters was out cold on the field) and it makes sense.
November 19th, 2017 at 3:08 PM ^
Unlike the Buckeyes and Spartans, the Badger players seemed to play respectfully tough. Next week the cheap shots and over the top trash talking come to town.....
November 19th, 2017 at 12:41 PM ^
of that extra little bounce/push?
Maybe he waved for the trainer cause he knew he done wrong.
November 19th, 2017 at 12:56 PM ^
thought it was a dirty hit that should have been penalized. They talked about it incessantly. Van Ginkel knew the ball was out and still gave it everything he had.

was a perfectly executed form tackle where the QB stood right up after the play.

LOL, you're so full of shit. How credible does he have to be to convince you that it was the RBs responsibility to pick up a blitzer when the RB is lined up outside as a receiver? To Reader71s credit, he just said he messed up, and honestly that's not a big deal. I still think the OL is the primary problem, and so does Brian, speaking of credibility. But now you're trying to say that he is a right or that the fact that you agreed with him doesn't show that you actually agree with what he wrote. This is just comical.
November 19th, 2017 at 1:57 PM ^
video people.
That sort of thing gets called in games a lot.

First time I saw the hit, didn't think it was a big deal. But the view on this tweet, seeing the defender driving his legs so he could push Peters' head further into the ground is a disgrace. Absolute dick move. Jumping up and waving for the trainer doesn't make him a good guy.
November 19th, 2017 at 1:22 PM ^
I just rewatched the hit and it was fine. It was actually less violent than I remembered. Did he rub Peters a little after they hit the ground, sure. Did that have any affect on the injury, I would say no. I played football until I was 18 and rugby in my 20's & 30's and I have definitely hit people harder than that and I never received a flag.

often call unecessary roughness when the ball is already clearly out and the tackler does not ease up.
Wisconsin guy not only fails to ease up (again, ball was clearly out before contact), but uses his torso to drive Peters into the ground head and shoulder first, rather than just bringing him down hip first, then drives Peters along the turf for a couple of yards.
So (1) initial contact after ball is clearly out, (2) rather than ease up on the hit tackler maximized its violence, and then (3) drove Peters a couple of yards even after hitting the turf.
Boarderline late hits (ball clearly out before contact) on QBs where the tackler uses full force to drive the QB into the ground are frequenly flagged.
Maybe 20 years ago that would not get called. In recent years a flag on that kind of play is pretty common.
You can like it or not. But a flag on the play would have been completely within the norm for what gets flagged these days.
November 19th, 2017 at 8:49 PM ^
OK, let's say they called a PF, would it have changed anything? It moves the ball 15 yards then O'Korn comes in and...?
In the end all it means is M punts a little further downfield. Since it wasn't targeting or a second flagrant foul on the guy the LB doesn't get ejected. The outcome doesn't change. In the end M has lost their 2 best QBs and flagging the play doesn't change that.
I have to admit, I'm ready for some bagmen to step in and procure us some stud OL. It isn't going to get better until we have a serious improvement on the line. We've got to get some guys who can pass block.
November 19th, 2017 at 10:08 PM ^
Did I ever post that the non-call changed the outcome of the game?
No.
Just tyring to clear up confusion on the correct call.
Only thing that matters: Is that the sort of play that often draws a flag? Yes it is.
November 20th, 2017 at 10:32 AM ^
nope, nope, nope. no way should we be getting "bagmen" to get us players. nope.
November 19th, 2017 at 1:19 PM ^
After the tackle, the defender continue to drive an uncouncious Peter at least an additional yard along the ground, pushing off with his feet to gain leverage to do so. How is it not unnecessary roughness??
November 19th, 2017 at 3:35 PM ^
yep..thats the point. Nobody is saying the inital hit is illegal,
its the bloody after impact portion where the idiot Badger player
goes overboard driving Peters into the turf, totally unwarranted...
At a min. a flag should be thrown and the player should have been ejected.
Heck last time we played these morons Newsome almost lost his leg on another
cheapshot...
really starting to dislike/ hate Wisconsin. I want to throat punch these creeeps.
November 19th, 2017 at 5:02 PM ^
do think that the initial hit is the sort of thing that very often gets flagged.
The ball was clearly out. And they usually do flag a hit on the QB if the defensive player fails to minimize the hit or pull up a bit. That usually gets flagged.
November 19th, 2017 at 7:10 PM ^
Plus, we're not certain about the nature of the injury, are we? Is it possible he got a severely sprained neck from that extra push?
November 20th, 2017 at 11:51 AM ^
i still remember a play during the rodriguez era; scrum of players around martavious odom, he's stopped but hasn't gone the ground yet, and one of their guys runs at least 15 yards into the pile and dives at the side of odom's knee. i remember being absolutely stunned that he wasn't seriously injured.
again - a "football play" that never gets called and probably shouldn't (pre-whistle, live ball, hit at the ballcarrier's knee)...but still a cheap shot. that's wisconsin.
their basketball team is no different, by the way.

What level of denial are these fans in now that literally everything is a conspiracy or some dirty hit. The excuses are fucking absurd at this point. And people wonder why the nation loves to hate on Michigan fans. The fan base is full of in denial excuse makers when shit hits the fan. Nothing is ever wrong with the team, it’s always someone else’s fault. (Or even the weather now which only affected Michigan apparently).
