Michigan v. Florida -- Team Speed Thread

Submitted by SF Wolverine on

This seemed to me to be the fastest UM team I have ever seen.  And, against a very athletic UF squad.  Especailly on defense -- seemed like we repeatedly got to people who would have been missed in years past, and got to people earlier.  But, backs also seemed to have more speed, and Speight showed that the weight loss paid off on the scramble for a first down early on.   Be interesting to see whether this remains true all year, or if it was more scheme and anticiipation and less raw speed.

You'd think after getting that ass beat 3 times in a row, they'd stop talking before the game.

But then I realize it's the SEC and they're too dopey, Their coaches especially,

What a fucking 2nd half adjustment on offense. The defense owned them as everyone with a brain predicted and the offense was forcing their will upon Florida in the 2nd half as the game wore on.......just like last time.

A GREAT WIN. We needed this one.

But some respek on it.

GO MAIZE!!!!

Fastest and most physical Michigan D I've seen in a very long time. I was overly impressed with the freshmen. I've got a great idea, why not throw another freshman out there? You know, the kid wearing #10? Speight and O'korn aren't winning the BiG10, not even with this D. You have 3 weeks to find someone else, do it Jim.

I wish the right tackle were a tad quicker. In all seriousness, this "SEC speed" crap is just that. Crap. We just whipped that team's ass twice in three years. Alabama is good, but who's scared of any other team in that conference??

RR teams had speed and his S&C emphasized flexibility and being lean. Thats worked in the ACC. It didnt work against Wisconsin, Staee, PSU, Iowa, OSU, Miss St. We got manhandled b/c we had no girth. You have to be. oth fast AND big. RR never understood that. JMFH grts it. See: Rashan Gary.

Every football coach in America wants players who are both big and fast, even Rodriguez. But you know who is both big and fast? 5 star and top 4 star recruits. There are only so many to go around. Rodriguez definitely failed to upgrade his recruiting when he came to Michigan. If you want to watch a game of football that is 11 big and fast guys playing on both sides of the ball, you can watch the NFL. In college football that can't happen, although it is depressingly close at Alabama and Ohio State. So the real chess match is what do you emphasize when you can't get the big and fast guys. Rodriguez emphasized speed, Hoke emphasized big but recruited better than Rodriguez. Harbaugh seems to emphasize big on O and speed on D and recruit even better than Hoke.
