OT - Chris Berman's wife killed in car accident
Well that's terrible.
Tragic indeed. Prayers to the Berman family.
Chris Berman's Wife ran into the back of someone else killing them and herself. Why is she the victim. It's a tragedy, and sad that two families will be effected & prayers should go out to both families. But why mourn a famous person and not the person who was innocent???
Don't understand
The state police are still investigating the incident and are exploring the possibility that the other driver may have had a medical event prior to the accident (link). So perhaps you should maybe wait until all the facts are out before assigning blame?
In either event, the tragedy is that 2 people died due to an accident, regardless of who was at fault. I agree that both should be acknowledged but the strained sense of outrage is a bit much.
Sad day for both families. I bet Mrs. Berman was a great woman. I honestly don't think that any kid under 18 should be allowed to drive except to work and school. Not to be sexist but young girls in big cities or towns just don't have what it takes. You have to be real with this shit ya know. You take a sixteen year old girl that comes from well to do families lets say and all she has ever done is maybe wash dishes in her life or clean her room. Never had any responsibilites except putting on makeup and getting homework done on time. No skills or know how coordination of the real world. Now give that young lady the keys to a car and put her on a freeway and cut me off every day when I need to merge and she doesn't even know I'm there. It makes no fucking sense. Add an Iphone and you have people dieing all over. Unbelievable how stupid society is.
I don't think there should be an age limit. I do think after age 70 (or whatever) there should be driving tests required for a valid license.
As far as this specific accident, if a driver is paying attention it is pretty hard to ever rear end someone. And yes, I get that it is hard to be 100% engaged at all times behind the wheel.
Chill man. It is a tragedy. Prayers to both families. Enough with the punctuation.
I didn't read a reference to a victim. Two families are affected. The effect is that both families could use some affection.
Tom Mees drowning death pretty hard, this must be just incredibly painful.
he steps back from espn to enjoy his quasi retirement and spend more time with his family I would imagine and then this happens, I have always loved Boomer and this tragedy makes it seem so unfair.
Condolences indeed, may his family find some sort of solace soon.
that's tragic. Stay strong Boomer!!!
It would be nice if, in the media's rush to flood the airwaves and social media with their thoughts, prayers, condolences, etc. to Chris Berman and family, they remembered that someone else died in the wreck too - was rear-ended, in fact.
I don't find this likely - the media lionizes their own. So far in all the media's flowing tributes, I haven't seen one that mentions the other driver.
The linked article mentions the other driver.
Great. I don't mean one sentence in an article otherwise entirely about Katherine Berman. I mean that in all the official statements, all the Twitter support, all the messages of condolences, all the outpouring of emotion in general, you might think that one of them could acknowledge Edward Bertulis and offer one word for his family too.
kind of feel like this is cherry picking a reason for "outrage" a little bit. Katherine Berman is the reason the news story exists at all on a national scale. I don't think that people don't think the other person's life matters, it clearly does, but people just have nothing to connect themselves to his story.
Katherine Berman is the reason the news story exists at all on a national scale.
Yeah, I get that completely. I just think that now that it has been made into a story, entirely ignoring the other victim of the accident in your very public messages of support is unseemly.
The Ravens have a nice tribute of their own as well...
Our thoughts are with Chris Berman and his family after the passing of his wife Kathy.

Ironic, because I believe his long time partner Tom Jackson's daughter died tragically a while back too. Loved those 2 together on Prime Time back in the day.
hit by a wrong-way driver on I-25 between Denver and Cheyenne, WY.
I don't believe irony has anything to do with this situation.
condolences to the families involved
Hope that those friends and family of both who died can get through this. Can't even imagine what it must feel like. Thoughts and prayers. Love watching Berman.
I've google-mapped the area where the accident occured ("near Sherman Hill and Tuttle"), and based on the photos that are out there, it's hard to say what exactly happened. It looks like there's a side street (Trolley Bed Road) that intersects the main road at a sharp angle, and it's possible the other guy pulled out in front of her. It's not easy to see the oncoming traffic coming around the bend on Sherman Hill. So "rear ended" might not be "he was stopped and she just hit him." People are quick to blame her in the accident. Awful wreck and the cars were totally demolished.
Any mention of leather?
/tugs shirt collar
That's the first thing that came to my mind as well. I'm not a Berman fan but my sympathies go out to he and their families.
I call shotgun on the ride to hell.
same here. very sad but from the salacious accounting of the old days at espn, I was suprised to learn they'd been married so long. very, very sad situation.
And to those who want some sort of mention to the other driver and that family, I felt the exact same way when Paul Walker of Fast/Furious fame died because I knew the passenger Roger Rodas - a client of mine - who in most stories on the tragic accident, is barely mentioned if at all. He left behind kids and a wife ...just wasn't a famous actor.
Fuck. Poor Chris. How do you even handle some shit like that. Prayers to all involved.
My wife and 2 youngest kids were in a bad car accident on my birthday 3 years ago, luckily they were alright, but I remember driving like a lunatic from work to get to the scene of the accident. People were going too slow, I was passing them on the shoulder, honking my horn, and disobeying all traffic protocol.
I remember my wife saying sorry we ruined your birthday, but I just said, it is ok we can get a new vehicle, but I cannot get a new you or new kids. I said it only would have been ruined if I had to talk to a funeral director later that day.
She is doing better. Seeing a counselor and on the road to recovery. Very proud of her for taking this head on and defeating it. Thanks for asking Putin.
Sad situation... Distracted driving is getting worse by the day. I support full speed range adaptive cruise control with emergency braking.
So sorry for both familes. Didn't Chris meet her when he stopped to help her change a flat tire?
