Wahington Post on Brady - outside the box
I have read that his meals are planned two years in advance, that he has a nutritionist and a trainer.

OK, GOAT and all, but two year meal planning seems slightly excessive. What if there is a Kale shortage a year from now, for godsakes?

Definitely for us. However, maybe it's just another way to keep a mental edge. He probably believes this gives him an advantage (whatever that may be).

I"m sure he has someone buying Kale futures to hedge the market.

Kale grows like a weed, almost anywhere. Gives you wicked gas though

Alex Guerrero is a snake oil salesman claiming that he cured 200 people of cancer. Glad Brady is going strong into his 40 but Guerrero is the male version of Gwyneth Paltrow and her 'health advices'.

Compare to Peyton Manning last year who also at 39, hobbled his way to the superbowl riding the back of his defense. It's amazing how Brady even after all these years does not seem to age. no fall from grace.

Manning had HGH so he could get back to playing.

I heard eating to much Papa Johns is a gateway to HGH.

Manning took too many hits. May be that's why Brady complains and have been able to keep the hits he took to a lower number. Who knows.

I think overlooked is not just general health but how some football players deal with contact. Why did Barry Sanders retire in perfect health or Emmit Smith retire at age 40? Some of these football players never seem to take a solid hit. No one ever got a square shot on Barry. They held on for dear life. Smith though not the amazingly agile runner always ran to the path of least resistance. He rarely took a straight up hit. He would not run over but take an angle to fall to the side. Likewise some QB's seem to have a general pocket awareness. Compare Tom Brady or Elli Manning to Carson Palmer. The formers when they sense all is loss flop to the ground to live another day. When they have to hang tough they shuffle away to reduce the intensity of the hit. Their pocket awareness extends their careers. Carson Palmer is a living likeness of Jack "Cap" Rooney from the movie Any Given Sunday. Likewise on the defensive side there are defensive players who make their living tackling first hitting second.
Football is akin to being a live test dummy. If you can reduce the number and intensity of the crashes you must endure you will extend your career. Clearly Brady is doing all of the other things. But avoiding horrible hits cannot be discounted.

I remember reading somewhere that Emmitt partially credited his long career on his ability to not fall on the ball when tackled.
Prior to that, I had never thought of how much that could beat on your ribs and stomach.

Because he fell on a football when tackled.
