College ranking of all time Super Bowl players, Michigan #4
Miami remains No. 1 for all-time Super Bowl player appearances (118) during the 51-year history of the game. UCLA stayed third and moved within six appearances of cross-town rival USC, which is No. 2.
Michigan moved out of a tie with Penn State for sole possession of fourth place. Texas A&M joined the top 20 by jumping Arizona State and Michigan State.

This is a bit misleading as 1 or 2 guys appearing on a team like the Patriots (hint hint) can help a lot. To that end who is the Cal guy(s) who kept going - it can't be all Lynch. If you told me Cal would have nearly as many as Bama I'd tell WD to go suck a lemon.
UCLA - I like them when they are down due to potential competition... but love those unis! Memories of a lot of matchups in the early to mid 80s. Looking forward to that 22, 23 matchup! Last time we've met was 2000.

Even beyond that, it is looking at rosters. Not sure I would put the same value on Tom Brady making a Super Bowl as I would Nate Ebner (Ohio State). The 53rd player on your roster is not equivalent to the Super Bowl MVP.
At worst, there should be a weighting for a Super Bowl starter and Super Bowl MVP. Or games started during the regular season/playoffs.

Cal had some guy named Aaron Rodgers. Also, they have a surprising recent history of putting running backs and receivers into the NFL that hang around for a while, if not starting: CJ Anderson, Justin Forsett, Lynch, Shane Vereen, Keenan Allen, DeSean Jackson, Marvin Jones. Had Ron Rivera, who went twice with the Bears (not sure if they count his coaching appearance) and Tony Gonzalez (who never went to the Super Bowl but nonetheless very notable name).

Rodgers has only played in 1 Super Bowl

And Lynch only in 2 - point is there are a bunch of players from Cal beyond Lynch.

I would be interested in seeing the results if they only account for staters.

MGoBlue has a list of former Wolverines on Super Bowl rosters, and I've counted it twice—the total only comes to 98. And several of those listed were not players, but coaches, including Harbaugh.

So the discrepancy doesn't reside there.
Eh, just checked the MGoBlue list again—it lists John Rowser as having played for the Packers in Super Bowl I, which was played in January, 1967. The problem is that Rowser wasn't even drafted until March 1967; he played in Super Bowl II. Given that kind of easy-to-avoid mistake, maybe the MGoBlue website isn't accurate to begin with.

I think the CBS Sports graphic includes next week's Super Bowl. So that would bring the MGoBlue total to 100. Doesn't get you all the way but accounts for part of the discrepancy.
