Goodbye: umbig11

Submitted by NYC Fan on

For those of you that missed it in the "Weekend" Michigan Family thread, umbig11 will be leaving the board to work for Rivals.  Congrats on the new position, your inside knowledge and willingness to interact with the board will be missed.

Awesome! I'm not kidding. You will actually be able to put your own website in your twitter profile instead of one you have nothing to do with in terms of creation or administration. Not sure you ever realized how sad and leechy that made you look.

Be careful what you wish for. I think Brian said that the site would have to shutdown for an extended period of time to fix all of the issues. Are you sure you'd be able to survive a shutdown? How many users would he lose? How much income would he lose? You know he has a family to take care of now. Is the site really that bad? I have zero complaints. If there's a 502 I just wait until there isn't. I like the look of it and find it to be very user friendly.

Alternatively, one of us could post umbig11's "position" on a job board and see what turns up - there has to be someone out there willing to be something of a mole within a major Division I athletic department who must spend at least a few hours each days reporting back to that department's largest fan blog. Wouldn't be the same, of course, but I think there are some routes available here.

this same thing. I appreciated all the information he was willing to divulge and he was great to interact with. So, he works for the Michigan Football team or athletic department in some regard and is now getting paid for sharing information? I mean, I give him all the props in the world for getting the best of both situations. I guess I'm wondering what the football teams position or athletic departments position is on his information sharing, wouldn't this be something he could get fired over? Maybe I'm just butthurt about him leaving, but I am mostly just very curious as to how this works out for him. I can't imagine the athletic department or football team would be ok with him double dipping on pay checks to share information. Best of luck to you though UMBig11, it was fun while it lasted.

So the firing wouldn't apply but I often wondered if the Athletic Department would be happy with the information being passed or even encouraged part of it. Now I wonder how happy they would be that he's profiting from the special access.

I appreciated the information. I wonder how long it will last because I know there has to be staff monitoring these boards.

Here's a thing about Mgoblog - I hit reply to the very 1st post following OP to congratulate big11, but I'm guessing my post will fall below 30-40 posts arguing about site maintenance instead of discussing the merits of big11's contributions to the blog.

That's not a site maintenance issue, that's a "I log on here mostly to bitch" issue!

Anyway, I do have a question re: big11 -

seemed like his level of access gave me the impression he was actually involved in the University somehow? Like when he helped get buckeye scammers tix to SoS deactivated - or knows who leads the two-deep two months before spring practice?

Won't taking $ from Rivals to leak info from inside Schembechler Hall sort of make people stop giving him access? Just curious?

EDIT:

I went and fucking counted how many posts down my reply to the very 1st post in the thread fell - my guess of 30-40 was way too conservative. 51 fucking posts of mostly people arguing over site maintenance before my reply about the OP topic slots in!!!!

Start a new fucking thread to argue over that next time, threadjacking motherfuckers!

Funny that a chunk of that thread jack was focused on the ability to collapse conversation threads. The quirks of this site are occasionally amusing, especially when we get mad at each other for behaving the way people do on the regular internet (also in real life in this case). Conversations naturally meander hence the utility of a collapse functionality.

Thankfully, I haven't seen this overused GIF in a long time. (Nothing personal, mrkid.) That's an interesting decision for umbig11. His/her contributions were apparently related to a position in the AD. Will s/he be able to maintain enough connections?
