Think son think. You risk a 6 figure education over that piddling amount of shit. What were you thinking?
If Tate did something that stupid, we would see a real meltdown on this here blog
Is a bunch of people trying to justify what Tate did and calling out the prosecutor and/or anyone involved in him getting caught.
Sad but very true

I dunno man. There's a lot of blind UM love on here, but how in the world could you justify stealing laptops?
I think there'd be plenty of people saying Tate's "swagger" was actually a bad attitude and that would be the root of the problem with him, they'd want him gone and Devin to be given the keys.
Luckily, none of that matters since it, in fact, did not happen. Which is convenient because I wasn't really in the mood to gouge my eyes out anyway.

I wholeheartedly disagree.
A spade is a spade and I think if somebody on our team did that, even Mr. Forcier, most here would call it like it is.
Yeah...because we're completely rational around here...
That's what matters to these guys. Not the six figure education, the pro contract. These kids have plenty of athletes do time and come back to the league. Even Clarett got a shot, he mostly got cut for showing up over weight and out of shape. What matters to Masoli is that at the end of the day some NFL team will be willing to hand him a contract offer.
Well the last time ole Chipper suspended someone for the year he stuck to his guns so I am confident Masoli will not see the field next year.
Sarcasm aside, I agree with your inference that Masoli probably sees the field next year. I bet Masoli is out for much of their nonconference schedule, but comes back sometime when they're in league play. Interestingly that James only got 1 game for choking out his gf. Belotti and Kelly are trying to toe this BS line of misdeameanor v. felony.
Of course Embry who was involved with Masoli gets kicked off the team (before charges were even brought forward), b/c he's not a star. Masoli who plead guilty to the same crime, gets suspended for the year, but will probably be allowed to practice with the team and will IMO be brought back sometime during the season.
Chip Kelly is a sleaze and is fully of double-standards.
A couple things:
1: When Blount was suspended, Kelly said the suspension was indefinite. When Masoli was suspended, he said it was for the season. I'm not trying to justify anything, just pointing out the wording and how they say different things.
2: James was accused of choking his girlfriend, not convicted. He plead guilty to harassment. Maybe he did, maybe he didn't, but if accusations were the same as convictions, then I guess OJ is a murde....

Not true. Blount was suspended for the season. Chip Kelly, "I have suspended LaGarrette Blount for the season."

Negged myself. Touche sir. Touche.
As they're giving him a redshirt. It's not good for him, to be sure, but the penalty is equivalent to the same thing as getting injured and having to use a medical redshirt. Of course, this does hurt Oregon a lot when you consider that they may well have been the Pac 10 favorites this year.
I thought you could only use your red shirt during your freshman year, or in the event of injury? I guess you can red shirt any year that you feel like?
You can get a Redshirt slapped on at any ol' time in your career. Virginia Tech tried to Redshirt Tyrod Taylor two years ago when he would have been a Sophomore (I think). That plan got aborted when Sean Glennon turned out to be so ineffectual he couldn't even captain that morass of an offense, but they tried!

Masoli came in as a junior college transfer, meaning he still had a redshirt - he never used it.
i like how everyone rips on Urban Meyer for soft discipline, but cameron newton stole just one laptop and Meyer kicked him off the team.
Honestly, I think people will try to rip on Meyer for anything b/c hes such a Dbag.
If Meyer won two NC's at UM, nobody here would be calling him a "d-bag." Meyer is the kind of coach you hate to compete against but love to have on your team.
Not many successful coaches have to worry about their own fans thinking they're a D-bag.
...appears to be a goal of Oregon's.
University president Richard Lariviere issued a statement late Friday in support of Kelly’s actions. “I am confident that Coach Kelly has carefully and fairly considered the disciplinary actions he is imposing,” Lariviere said. “I know that he understands the high expectations of Oregon’s faculty, students and fans.”Looks like the university is really concerned about the recent crime wave.
Every year, there is one team that has this kind of off-season. The ironic thing is that Chip Kelly is apparently much more of a disciplinarian than Belloti.
I find it kind of hard to rip on Kelly for this. He didn't recruit most of these guys (LaMichael James, kinda yes), most of these were Belotti recruits. I know he was on the staff and undoubtedly part of their recruitment, but he gets a little leeway from me there. But it's hard for me to see a pattern to this. It just seems like a group of college kids made a bunch of bad decisions and the Angry Oregon Hating God decided they would all be on the Beaver squad. I'm not gonna throw stones over one bad off-season. Now, if Eugene turns into Coral Gables circa 1986 in a few years' time then we can talk.

Oregon coach Chip Kelly responds to questions by saying, "I said he'd be suspended for the season, and he was--for the entire spring football season. Next question."

I personally didn't think that Blount deserved a season suspension. I'm willing to bet that Kelly didn't either. However, the case was so high profile that he was being pressured by the school (and probably the conference) that he had to be severe. It was pretty widely suspected that Blount would come back if he behaved and he did.
That said, I do not give Kelly a pass on the more recent issues. His team is acting like Michigan State and I think he should be tougher on the suspensions and possibly kicking players off the team.

I've been curious about this for some time, but do Junior College players have a tendency to carry more baggage/risk? For the past decade Oregon has raided the JUCO ranks and had great success with the players- Masoli, Blount, and I think Jeremiah Johnson just to name a few. But is there a risk with signing so many Junior College players?
Intriguing.
I mean, there's a reason they were JUCO players in the first place, and it's not always talent. A lot of these kids end up at JUCOs because they either didn't have the grades or they were denied entry to the FBS schools who recruited them out of high school.
I can't give you a definite answer because I don't have any statistics to back it up, but my gut reaction would be "yes."
Did any of you read the rest of the article?
That's some serious punishment by Kelly.
Some places, players would get a suspension from after the awards banquet to the week before the bowl game or some lame thing like that.
