POSBANG: Notre Dame goes down - AGAIN!

Submitted by crg on

To hell with Notre Dame!

Upside: Another step forward in the path for UM reclaiming the overall win percentage.  Also good for Big Ten in general.  ND almost certainly out of playoff picture.

Downside:  MSU looks like they might be a challenge.  We'll see how they do against Wisconsin next week.

Also, Brian Kelly is still an ass.

Bang on!

EDIT:  It looks like if UM finishes with 1 more win than ND this season (same # of games assumed), we reclaim the record.

I loathe more than the one of that trade school in south bend. Their pain is my personal gain. We will defeat Sparty. But almost nothing gives me greater joy than to learn the trade school alumni and fans I deal with on a daily basis suffer. Yes I am going to hell, to me, it's worthwhile if the south benders hurt. Did I ever mention I was a small child when Rocket Ismail pulled his evil misdeeds in Michigan Stadium and I sat there writhing with my late dad? I'll take my pleasures; I would eat their livers with fava beans and a fine chianti even if I have to roast for eternity (until archangel Harbaugh descends to rescue us).

Let us chicken dance tonight.

ND looked bad, but MSU looked really good until they went prevent.  I thought their O line would suck, but it was dominant against a talented ND front 7.  Their QB is a game manager, but they have some weapons.  On D, MSU's back 7 is really good, their D line is just average, Cooper and McDowell are good, but the other guys are just bodies.  They aren't deep at all on the D line.

When they went up 36-7 I thought they looked like a top 5 team, but then they went into a shell.  To win on the raod at ND is tough though.  We'll need to p-lay really well to beat MSU at their stadium, they are no pushover for sure.

If that's true that they are doing that because of their win percentage, that is pathetic. When Michigan goes there in 2018, there should be t-shirts made of how long they held it and then lost it. With a big #1 on the back.

Not sure what formula you are using, but I checked this out and it looks like even with 2 more wins we don't take the lead!?

But the reference I found counts ties as .5 of a win. So that might explain the difference. ND has 6 more ties than UM.

Maybe the 2nd playoff game will be enough to put us over the top vs their bowl game!?

FWIW, if wikipedia to be believed at

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_NCAA_football_teams_by_wins

then, as of January 14, 2016, counting each tie as 0.5 win:

Notre Dame W892, L313, T42, games played 1247: W% 73.22

University of Michigan W925, L331, T36, games played 1292: W% 72.99

Updating for season so far:

ND W893, L315, T42, gp 1250: W% 73.12

UM W928, L331, T36, gp1295: W% 73.05

So we have thus far this season closed the gap in all-time win percentage from 0.23% to 0.07%.  Yes, so far, we have reduced the win percentage gap by over TWO-THIRDS what it was before the season started.

Fun fact: if we WIN next week while ND loses, we will overtake win percentage (73.06% for ND, 73.07% for UM).

But they're playing Duke, so there's that...

Fuck Sparty and fuck this thread. I'm happy to atleast see some rational Michigan fans on here who aren't blind and delusional. For a minute I thought I was going to lose it. Make no mistake the MSU game is going to be a war and its going to take everything for us to pull out a win. I think our defense will be solid for that game but if they completely stuff our run which looks very likely then it's going to be a long game. The MSU game seriously needs to be our national championship and get the Paul Bunyon trophy back where it belongs. I'm shocked at how good OSU looked tonight and Barrett looks the best he's ever been. Even after losing almost every starter OSU looks like a death machine. Besides Peppers, Wormley, Lewis and Butt Hokes recruits have been completely overrated and they are who they are.

And shouldn't we celebrate an ND loss? We don't play them this year (unless somehow meet in a bowl), so we can't beat them directly. However, we do have our chance to beat on sparty, which not only gives us a win against them but also shows we can do something that ND couldn't.

It appears that we are still running 3rd

OSU appears to be the best B10 team

Sparty appears to be the 2nd best B10 team

UM running 3rd - lack of a running game and lack of team speed are the achilles heels of this team

Thank god!!!  It has been 3 weeks too many with ND in the news.  Now we can quit talking about them for the year being they have no conference championship to go after.   Suck it ND.

Msu dominated that game until they took their foot off the pedal. Let's just hope Notre Dame was overrated (Which may be the case seeing that Texas lost to Cal).Early in the season though,so many things can and will take place before the game gets here.
