Alex Malzone charged with Disorderly Conduct/Fake ID misdemeanors

Submitted by SAMgO on

Per the Ann Arbor case docket. You can find the charges from this link: https://secure.courts.michigan.gov/jis/?court=ANNARBOR

Not a great time for him personally to be in the doghouse with all the talent we have coming in at that position. Understandably they're not major offenses and most of us were probably guilty of that caught or not during our time in Ann Arbor, but it's still surely not something you want to see.

But in the Detroit suburbs? no way, I never got off with anything less than a ticket. Did suck on a penny once and it apparently worked because breathalizer registered 99.9 and I had def put a few back. Not proud of that, just young/dumb.

I googled the cop too who was then a Franklin officer, he works now in another nearby city, got pulled over at the front of my neighborhood too, would have sucked being taken to the slammer. Dodged a bullet that time.

I remember clearly too, GnFnR Paradise City had just come on the radio so I was driving faster down 13.. So I will say, that's my ONLY time I got off and was let off to go home with no ticket or anything. Usually I would pay the ticket and hide it from my dad who was an attorney and would fight any ticket tooth and nail but I didn't want him to know I got it so I would just pay it.

Harbaugh lived in my dorm and let's just say I have seen him do a number of things that would have landed a non-football player in jail.  Had we had smartphones back then, I am pretty sure Harbaugh wouldn't be our coach now.

What Malzone has done is child's play in comparison.

Having said that, I bet he transfers after this season as he is not a high D1 QB IMO.

Never arrested for disorderly conduct either, though that's more of a mystery because very little of my college age conduct was orderly.

It's dumb, but if you want to be the starting QB at Michigan you don't get to be dumb.  Having all eyes on you is as much an honor as a curse.  I got to be dumb because I was faceless LSA student #4813799.  It's unfair but that's not necessarily a bad thing.  If Harbaugh puts him in the doghouse it'll be to make him a better person; lacking that kind of guidance I assholed all through my 20's until I started seriously running out of friends.

The offense was from April 26th, well over a month ago so Harbaugh is likely well aware.  Kinda doubt this is a big deal -- extra stairs or something like that type of punishment.

On a related note, I found it interesting that Malzone, and not O'Korn was the Michigan QB attending the CFB QB all-star camp coming up soon.  Forget where I saw the image of it, but its just about every high-profile QB in CFB attending it.

Yeah, I think that's the one.  It was a tweet of a pic with 15-20 of the top QBs in the country that were attending a camp.  Don't remember if it was Whitfield, or Manning, or what.  Can't find the tweet or any mention of it anywhere online.

I found it interesting that 1) it was just Speight and not O'Korn too since other schools had multiple QBs going, and 2) Harbaugh was OK with his QBs going to a QB camp.  Seems like he might be the kind of guy that likes to mold his QBs a certain way.  Or to put it another way, if Harbaugh was your QB coach, why would you need to go get training from someone else?

Not a big deal, but like I said, just found it interesting.

Normal for most college kids - normal for most kids, yes.  But it's pretty dumb if you're a QB on a nationally known, big-time coolege football team, and hope to see some playing time.  Besides all that, he's been personally interviewed by media members and has been prominently mentioned in a host of media stories about UM's quarterbacks.  From that perspective, it was a HUGE mistake of judgement to have put himself in a position to get caught like that.

On what grounds?

Are we really going to judge this person to a different standard than anyone else? We don't know the details of what happened on the sidewalk, but in regards to the fake ID, this seems to be a victimless crime and should be treated as such.

But why, both in general and specifically in this case? What's the difference between student government president and football player on scholarship, or football player not on scholarship?

When I did drink, I was a silly drunk; laughed at everything and everyone and told stupid long winded human interest stories.  I never felt like I had to get in a confrontation nor did I do anything to get my butt arrested.  Nor did I use a fake ID.  If I got into the bar without having to show ID, I got in.  If I was asked for ID, then I didn't get in.

This isn't his first dance with alcohol; we all know as a 19 year old, this isn't his first time drinking.  He should know how it impacts his behavior by now and know not to do this in public.

He fucked up.  I'd hate for him to lose his shot, and I hope he has learned something from this.   Hopefully Harbaugh will work with him to get his behavior improved.

With all the talent in front of him already I dont see this improving his case. That being said Im sure everyone at some point has done dumb shit like this, he just happened to be caught. Hope he learns and moves on.
