FYI:

Brian used to write the OG "This Week in Schadenfreude" for SBNation back in the day.  He'd meticulously sift through all the terrible college football message boards for each of that week's biggest losers and find the funniest comments.  There have been plenty of others that do/did something similar, but he provided his own snark to the each of the provided comments to highlight the poster's mania and it was the best version of this curated-comments-section genre.

While they aren't a sponsor,…

While they aren't a sponsor, Fanduel has a UM-Wisc promo (for bettors in MI) that is dropping the betting line based on the number of people taking the bet. Currently it's at UM +56 pts and will continue to grow until it's probably +100 or so. Max bet is $50, but it's literally a free $45.45 (-110 odds) if you only place this single wager and cash out.

Draftkings has an almost identical promo for the LA Lakers game where the Over has been bet down to a single pt being scored in the game (was 200 or so) wins. The max bet is only $25, but with those two bets you've got 70 extra bucks.

Based on the length of the…

Based on the length of the player's shadows, this TD came in the early 4th quarter when M was already up 28-0 (there were three 1 yd TD runs by Weisenburger).  USC looks to have given up at that point as their entire team basically just stood up at the snap.  I don't think it mattered what play we ran at that point.

We needed to blow out USC to pass ND for the #1 ranking (we threw for two more TDs in the fourth quarter up 35 and 42). We also needed the AP voters to decide to hold the first ever post-bowl poll (ND didn't go to a bowl that year for some reason). Notre Dame claims and the NCAA still holds the AP National Championship for 1947 even though the AP itself declared UM the champion.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1947_Notre_Dame_Fighting_Irish_football_team

Also, while digging through various sites I saw that in the year prior, 1946 Army was ranked #1 all season. Went 9-0-1 with their only tie being to #2 Notre Dame (score: 0-0). Army beat #4 Michigan; #11 Columbia; #13 Duke; and #5 Penn, but only beat their hated rival Navy 21-18 in the last game of the year.

Of course the AP gave ND the national championship that year having beaten two ranked teams all year: #17 Iowa and #16 USC in the last game 26-6.  Lame.

IAmNotACoach but here's my take, by stacking the 3 DBs in essentially a row, you're immediately giving the inside receiver inside leverage and the outside receiver outside leverage. When the DBs are more heads up on the guy they can more easily cover a inside-in; outside-out breaking routes as their positioning will benefit them.  If they cross like they do in the pics, they can still get inside-to-outside and vice versa as they are at slightly different "levels" while the WRs also cover the same distance while having to navigate past the "locked" WR and the other crossing WR.

The Gardner vs. Tate vs…

The Gardner vs. Tate vs. Patterson scenario seems to be a bit of a loaded question.

Gardner suffered from having both a poor Oline and OC issues. He had all the physical tools to run a modern offense. Tate and Patterson, while having similar tools, aren't as athletic as Gardner and didn't/don't quite suffer from the 1-2 punch of Oline and OC as Gardner so their careers don't have as much of the "what might have been" goodwill.

That being said, of those three QBs, I'd probably pick Forcier in a best case scenario situation. While I love Gardner and like Patterson, it just seemed like that it takes them a beat or two longer to process what is going on in front of him where Forcier was able to make those reads/decisions faster. A good OLine would help in that regard against most college teams, but against the elite teams a QB's ability to make those snap decisions (and get them right most of the time) can be what gets you a win.

I know Forcier was a knucklehead, but if everything went the way it was supposed to as far as school goes, I could see him making a few more plays each game than the other two.

Does this mean that we could…

Does this mean that we could sign Denard Robinson to come back and play for us?

Currently the NCAA and its member schools are shielded from antitrust suits due to their status as an amateur organization.  A player is prohibited from playing past five years because all the schools agree to those rules and those rules cannot be challenged as collusive because of the amateurism exemption to antitrust laws.

If these guys aren't amateurs anymore, why wouldn't older ineligible players be allowed back into the marketplace? Can the NCAA still collude to prevent Denard from playing when their shield against antitrust has been removed?  Would we still root for a team full of 29 y/o college students going for their fourth masters?

Anybody with antitrust background have any input on whether older players could challenge the NCAA to get some of that sweet NIL booster money?

I guarantee nobody was…

I guarantee nobody was actually upset with those mild jibes.  What almost certainly happened was that some of the not-very-forward-thinking branch of Clemson fans that were present probably thought they would get the last laugh and complain to the athletic department to "get someone in trouble."

Now those dim bulbs make Clemson fans look like a bunch of whiners, while the corporate suits that run the UNC AD did what all huge public-facing entities do and issued a BS who-cares apology to nobody in general.

And everyone else gets to read something about "society" into the actions of like six people.

While those numbers are…

While those numbers are scary, Army also only scored 17 against both Navy and Air Force. Oklahoma and Duke, the only two Power 5 teams they played last year, held them to 21 and 14 with the 84th and 46th ranked SP+ defense (we were 9th).

The Houston bowl game: Ed Oliver (1st rounder) and the rest of their starting defensive line didn't play. Their starting QB was out injured (a freshman replaced him) and Isaiah Johnson (4th rd CB) also sat out.  That lopsided score happens when one team is shorthanded and just DGAF in general (see Michigan v. Florida).

I think Snow's plan was basically to hold off the wights as best they can while they double dragon-teamed the Night King to cut the head off the snake.  That plan went to shit when Dany saw her Khalisar being wiped out in the head long charge and decided to try and save them.

I can see the reasoning behind the Dothraki charge was that they hoped to break through the undead ranks and then wreak havoc on their flank as the undead continued on to attack Winterfell. Snow had never seen the wights act in formation and couldn't anticipate them being capable of forming an impregnable wall of death.  Until then they just acted like regular fast zombies and fought whatever was close by. Fast moving cavalry could, in theory, pass right through the zombies allowing them to hack and kill from behind.

I wonder how the D should defend the second example. Based on the offense's alignment should the LBs know/alert that once there was no mesh and instead the RB flared out, Wangler should follow him to keep the MLB on the play side?
