OT: Shaving Talk
In the spirit of "Offseason LOL," I thought I would see how the people of this board generally shave the various hairs on their bodies.
I have been hoping to find something cheaper than the Gillete line of products, as I only have to shave 2-3 times per week. I have tried Harry's, Dollar Shave Club, and Shick. I have to say: NONE of these options are any good. Harry's was the worst, followed closely by Dollar Shave club. I had to sharpen the blades in both cases, and even then I had to stop and clean out the bladed about every other swipe. They also cut my face up like I was shaving with a cheese grater. The Gillete stuff is expensive, but a 1.5 month old blade still was better than these other options.
I think I may try a saftey razor next; is it worth the trouble?

Same razors DSC uses. Plus you can google Dorco coupons and get an even cheaper discount. I ordered the Pace plus Combo set (razor handle plus 10 blades) which is the same as DSC Executive set for less than $12. I use the 6 blade razor and I've had no problems with the Dorco blades.

Same here, The dorco pace 6 razors are cheap and last a long time.
It was taken down before the day was over. Harry's is an advertiser here. As soon as I hit 'reply', a Harry's ad showed up in the banner.

Damn, you're not gonna like the thread I'm starting about how I should wash my balls.
April 20th, 2016 at 10:44 AM ^
I've got some thoughts on that.
April 20th, 2016 at 10:47 AM ^
I've tried. Not flexible enough, unfortunately.
April 20th, 2016 at 10:51 AM ^
and a Great Dane.
April 20th, 2016 at 12:43 PM ^
I get the peanut butter and the dog, but why choose a great dane?
tongue I assume. One of the largest breeds I could think of off the top of my hea- you know, it loses something when it has to be explained.
April 21st, 2016 at 12:29 PM ^
Hahaha, yeah didn't even consider the tongue part. I was thinking maybe because when it's on all fours it's at the right height ro something. WOOOOOSH!!
Dab a little peanut butter on the muzzle of the shotgun when it was time to retire an old dog. Skippy would start licking away and then BAM POW doggy heaven.
I'll have to try the peanut butter and canine with my balls. Although I hope peanut butter doesn't get stuck in my holes. I'm bad enough at bowling as it is.

Ball washing you say, Bill Murray was an expert at that....
shaving. Your shorn scrotum has given you away Dr. Evil.
I tried to no avail to embed the Mythbusters polishing a turd video. Not as funny but the thought counts for some laughs, right

I make up about half of the entire $55 annual membership fee in savings on Gillette blades alone. Plus, like you I'm shaving 3 times per week so one package from Costco lasts most of the year.
April 20th, 2016 at 10:45 AM ^
I use fusion pro-glides from Costco. I shave every day M-F (hooray legit 5 o'clock shadows. I'm usually asked on Sunday if i'm growing a beard).
They're not too expensive that way and they last me about a month.
April 20th, 2016 at 10:51 AM ^
These blades seem to be the only kind that don't tear my face up. I always get them on eBay.
Electric razors are an absolute no go for me as they cause crazy breakout on my neck.
Still searching for the best shave cream/gel after all these years, though.
April 20th, 2016 at 11:15 AM ^
too. I shave 3-4 times a week and use each blade twice with no problem. I was buying The Art of Shaving cream and using a brush but each jar is like $40 so i've gone to Barbasol and it works great.
April 20th, 2016 at 11:35 AM ^
I'm exactly the opposite. Using a razor to shave makes my neck get inflamed, but a high quality electric razor is just great. I use a Braun series 5, and have been very happy with it. Super close shave, and completely comfortable.
April 20th, 2016 at 11:54 AM ^
I have the series 7 and love it. I use it about every two days and it has a cleaning station. It makes it so easy.

You save a ton on gasoline.
You can save a ton at Geico.

Down there...oh wait we aren't talking about that shaving.

Or, at least, not one thick enough to be seen. If I let it grow out, I begin to look like a pubescent boy. I have really thick hairs, but not a thick beard if that makes sense.

Meh. Beards are overused these days, not that there is anything wrong with people having them. I have always preferred the clean cut.
April 20th, 2016 at 11:37 AM ^
I shaved mine when almost everyone started growing one. Plus the misses doesn't like it when I have a thick beard.
April 20th, 2016 at 10:41 AM ^
Dude, you must have had the low end razor from DSC. I have the Executive which has 6 blades. I am a hairy mammal. Now granted I only use the razor twice before switching cartridges, but I also shave my head with it. It is easily the best razor i have ever used and at $9 a month for 4 cartridges, still way cheaper than any of the good disposables (used a Schick Hyrdo prior to joining DSC). I highly recommend DSC, but you need to get the Executive.
April 20th, 2016 at 10:43 AM ^
I went straight for the executive. It is complete garbage. My face looked like I had just learned to shave with a chainsaw, and the trimming blade gave me a pretty bad cut on the side of my head as well.
April 20th, 2016 at 10:59 AM ^
and use shampoo instead of shaving creme. You'll never go back.
My face doesn't like to get scraped with a blade. I tried electric razors and never found one that didn't give me neck burn. So, Fusion Pro Glide and Gillette Foamy sensitive skin shaving cream has been the best formula for me.
April 20th, 2016 at 11:16 AM ^
i've been very happy with mine, although i do agree with you that the single trimming blade on the opposite end of the cartridge is dumb as shit! Cut my fingers on that damn thing more then once!

Probably worth pointing out there facial hair can very greatly in thickness, strength, direction, and groupings of directions. Some solutions can work excellent for some people and for others be more akin to rubbing crushed glass on their face.
For myself, the 5-6 blades razors are basically useless, likewise for every electric I've tried (which is basically all of them). I tend to have thick/strong but very pliant facial hair and the 5/6 blade razors just do about f all at cutting it regardless of the shaving gel/cream used. Single/double blades however work extremely well.
So, no one should assume that just because a product works for them that it will work for anyone else.

How is doctor CARVEEEEEEEEEEE's shave butter??
April 20th, 2016 at 10:42 AM ^
Feather DE Blades
Truefitt & Hill 1805 Shaving Cream
A badger hair shaving brush
T&H 1805 Aftershave Balm
Why go cheap on yourself? We're talkin' 'bout yo face here!
April 20th, 2016 at 11:38 AM ^
I've tried other brands, but I can't see myself using anything other than Feather.
Right now I'm using Le Piment de la Vie by Catie's Bubbles. I'm pretty new to DE, but this has been my favorite.
