Hammer coming down on Ole Miss?
February 9th, 2016 at 9:35 PM ^
Oh, without question it's a different situation. I'm just saying people who are looking at the NCAA as an enforcer for punishment in any situation pertaining towards college sports may be let down.
February 9th, 2016 at 9:55 PM ^
They actually DID levy some pretty stiff punishments initially to PSU. But then Penn State issued a statement saying they were real sorry for shielding a child rapist for over 10 years and that the next time one of their coaches starts raping children well by golly next time they will do something about it. Eventually. When the time is right.
So faced with that the NCAA had no choice but to take back the punishment that was....you know....punishing and replace it with the slap on the wrist version you see today.
What else could they do?

I know you outed the Discuss Man persona but why do you think Benn is also WD? Other than the insane amount of points he's accumulated in about a month.

It's interesting that this story not only compelled you to not only register but suddenly become one of the most active posters on this site. 2800 points in five weeks is quite impressive for a brand-new poster.

You mean like Discuss Man? I really liked that guy - always starting threads with interesting topics and encouraging us to talk about them and then BAM, one day he's gone. Not sure why he left us but ironically he was also being accused of being a WD dobbleganger.
You keep fighting the good fight Benn. Don't let these negative nancy's run you off like they did poor old Discuss Man.

Good call. Cyber Bullying is a serious issue... Not like you can just get up and walk away from the computer. Stay strong WD!

Again, I see these dicusssions from people who pretend to be college graduates, many pretend to be grad school graduates, and many pretend to be people who have real importan jobs--=all bitching about sissy points, who poses as who, who has been been banned--
All this stuff tells me there's a whole lot of freaks on this board wo've really nothing better to do, despite all those graduate degrees and such...

No player is being singled out and the entire team is doing it, well within the rules of the NCAA. Did you lose your shit when teams go to Puerto Rico for Basketball tournaments?

It is also sad that of all these violations, they really have no way of enforcing giving kids cash.
I'm not sure there is really anything they can practically do about it. Both sides have a great incentive to keep quiet when it occurs. I go to grad school with a guy whose family knows boosters there and he says they give out 5 figure sums for mere vists. I can't exactly say that if I were in HS i wouldn't take it. I probably would.
Anyway, at least they will never be as good as the top programs in the SEC.

We are talking about the same organization that threatened the eligibility of a couple student-athletes unless they paid for the extra pasta that they consumed at a team function, and the same organization that once gave a UNLV basketball player the thir degree over purchasing a used mattress. I don't know that I am going to fully trust the NCAA to be of sound judgment on this particular matter.

The violations didn't happen until after the Elite 8 game. We legitimately won the region, and therefore should have a Final Four banner. They took both down solely because the big wigs didn't like the Fab 5.

Ole Miss has never been like an Alabama, an OSU, a USC, ND, or UM. They've had Archie Manning to their name and that's about it. They were hot garbage for years until Freeze showed up, and then almost overnight, all the top players in America want to go there. I'm sure Hugh Freeze is a cool guy, and yeah they have some fine SEC girls, but very little could convince me that shady shit isn't going on down in Oxford.

then changed their mind after more reports came out. It's a very serious manner and I think the NCAA is now acting correctly by letting other investigations play out. I suspect member schools will be divided about the appropriate response, much like they were about Penn State. The ultimate decision about punishment will be hammered out by school presidents and ADs, not by their typical process.

Why couldn't this come out one week earlier? Not saying we would've had a chance at Greg Little, but it would've been interesting to see how some last minute negative recruiting against Ole Miss could've benefitted other teams.

January. The allegations against the current staff are very minor. It would have been easier to negative recruit before the details were released, than it would be now.
