Joe Bolden Getting Rave Reviews at Shrine Game Practices

Submitted by IvyLeague on

Dane Brugler who is a well-respected "analyst" of NFl Draft Scout (which is owned by CBS Sports) has this to say about Bolden in his morning update:

-On more than one occasion, Michigan linebacker Joe Bolden drew “ooh's and ahh's” from the crowd, shooting gaps and blowing up the ballcarrier before he could hit the hole. He's very average from a size/speed standpoint, but Bolden is a ball magnet and doesn't play with hesitation, which is being noticed by the dozens of NFL scouts in attendance

Apologies for the triple post! Everytime I hit enter it created a new one and didn't realize.

At first I thought, "that does not sound like our Joe Bolden" and then I remembered that the reports out of practice were always glowing only for us never to see it in actual games so I guess this sounds about right. Maybe he will fool enough scouts with his propensity for practice hype and get himself drafted.

Bolden isn't the type to make an impact as a starter on an NFL roster. He had a decent amount of hype coming out of h.s. that he was above average; hell he would not have gotten to UM if not. I think the hype though was too much and we expected too much due to his relatively high ratings compared to other backers from the same state. Much like his counterpart, Desmond, he is fine with things coming right at him and even though both could reach and synthesize the information as fast or faster than most, they do have limitattions that on the high school level weren't exposed, but on the BIG level were fortunate to be starters at UM. If the talent level of the late 90s to early 2000s had been the same, they would have seen sufficient p.t., but their weaknesses in regard to what comes down to level of athleticism would have, even as starters been exposed for what it is.

I hope, like you, that what he does possess will make him worthy of landing on an NFL roster because that's a damn good starting salary for any college grad and will lead to connections that will last a lifetime. For all you former wolverines, good luck and thank you for choosing UM and congratulations on this past season. Was enjoyable watching a real UM team again.

Brian was nice enough to go thru 2 years of defensive UFRs and replace his comments on Bolden with "[redacted]".

Should thrust Bolden into the 2nd round.

Maybe itll make up for all the angst I had toward him for three years now.... saw it back then.

But I digress...

Have feeling that we're gonna be pleasantly surprised how many players get drafted.
