My legacy is the casual use of byzantine language to make people think I am smarter than I am. It has certainly pervaded this site quite nicely, I feel.
January 20th, 2016 at 2:50 PM ^
Nah, it was already endemic to MGoBlog community.

I haven't used the word merkin in a LONG time!
Stop smirkin' at my merkin...
Sorry, does this break the SnuffyRule?

Uh, I think it was me.
:(

Well, actually it was me, but yeah. Sorry Brian. I'll buy you a beer next time there's an MgoParty at Ashley's.

The Bandito?
BTW, Fritos or Doritos? Can we debate that while we're at it?
January 20th, 2016 at 2:22 PM ^
I want to throw this out there too - if you see something breaking on Twitter or elsewhere and it has been more than, say, 5 minutes since the item was posted, please don't post a thread about it because chances are that you are far too late at this point. The rush to be first has happened twice in the span of a few hours and resulted in clusterfucks now so please check timestamps on things.

A righteous suggestion, mate. The whole "I gotta be the first to post this" thing is almost as annoying as the reply to the first reply thing.
January 20th, 2016 at 2:38 PM ^
The suggestion is good. However I have to call into question the hurdles something must pass to be considered a full-on clusterfuck. It seems like that bar should be higher than a couple duplicate posts.
Also, like, real Australian people don't TYPE in Australian accents, dude.

Which is worse, a clusterfuck or a dumpster fire?

What about a fuck fire? That would be pretty bad, right?

Depends on whether you're wearing headphones or not.
January 20th, 2016 at 3:21 PM ^
I'm not typing in an accent. I'm typing English.
Also, I don't give a flying fuck if you're questioning whether or not I'm Australian. I know I am, which is all that matters to me.
January 20th, 2016 at 3:56 PM ^
You use mate like a flag that says "HOLY SHIT I'M AUSTRALIAN!!!"
I'm Italian, you don't see me adding in "capisce" in every possible instance.

You work for DTE don't you? Since this is the designated random posting thread, do you have any idea why my power was out last night in Royal Oak? About 1k were out from 630ish until around midnight.
An "equipment problem" is their official story, but I'm pretty sure it was aliens.
(and thanks for getting it back on. it was pretty damn cold)

a couple of years ago. I lost power over a dozen times in less than six months. Sometimes for several hours or days. And it was just the houses on my street, and only on my side of the street, so it was even more infuriating.
They finally admitted that they fucked something up when making a repair / upgrade and it was causing a fuse to blow every time there was the slightest hint of wind or rain. They did give me a $100 credit on my bill and it has been fine ever since.
Of course my generator wouldn't start last night.
January 20th, 2016 at 4:46 PM ^
Lived on Catalpa next to the tracks for 7 years and we lost power about every 8 weeks on the regular. Went and had a generator override installed so my dinky gas-powered job could at least keep the furnace/AC running. Thankfully I never had to try to get that beast going in sub-zero weather though.
Edit: I actually did a cost-benefit analysis on having a standby genny installed. In a major suburb. In 2010. Fun times!
January 20th, 2016 at 4:45 PM ^
Then it was most assuredly not aliens. Have you ever seen Close Encounters? You'd have had shit running in the house that didn't even require electricity to function properly.

The system which would actually let me see exactly what the calls in the area were is acting weird right now, but just based on the size of the outage, I bet it was fusing or some sectionalizing device (basically, devices which allow us to separate portions of circuits if we need to do so) that failed. Depending on where in Royal Oak, however, we do have older substations with smaller circuits - it could have been locked out at the substation too.
January 20th, 2016 at 2:55 PM ^
I was just curious. I posted above about some issues we had in the past, but things have been fine for a couple of years now.
It started as 600ish homes around 630, and then an additional 400+ went out a few hours later, so I'm assuming that the second group was turned off intentionally to make repairs possible.
And there is a really old substation near my house at 14 and Coolidge. It was probably built in the 40's or before judging by the construction of the building. It's actually pretty cool.

In this situation I write my post, then re-open mgoblog in another tab to see if someone else posted. If it's in the clear then i submit the post. Needless to say i've pretty much never posted.
