OT: A New Planet in our Solar System!!!
Apparently, we have a new 9th planet to replace demoted Pluto, Planet X!
https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/speaking-of-science/wp/2016/01/20/n…
It is much further away from Earth than Pluto (and may take as many as 10,000 years to circle the Sun), but it is also much larger than Pluto. In my mind, this scientifically confirms what men have long feared....size matters....

I agree, but would also propose that they've seen what happens when new bacteria and viruses are introduced into an ecosystem, and that they wouldn't let us anywhere near them either...

Let's all hope they view your value as much as we do.

I think of it this way. There are three things that could happen when we interact with an extraterrestrial intelligence: (1) they could benefit us; (2) they could ignore us, or (3) they could destroy us.
The earth has been around for about 5 billion years. There have been humans for about 100,000 years (0.002% of Earth's history), and we've had space flight for about 50 years (0.000001% of Earth's history). In other words, we've just barely arrived at the stage where this question even matters. So there's a very high chance that an extraterrestrial civilization is way more advanced than us.
So back to the three outcomes. If you see an ant hill on the ground, you're probably just going to ignore it, or maybe squish a few. If the ant hill is inconvenient (let's say it's right near the door to your kitchen), you might try to exterminate them. But you're almost certainly not going to take time to try to give them gifts or improve their society.
We're almost certainly on the order of ants to the aliens, especially if the aliens are advanced enough that they can travel to us or communicate across the vast distances of space. Therefore, it's in our interests to lay low.

Actually, I meant Marcel. Damn autocorrect. You're right though. Never heard of this 'Mark' guy. But surely he can't be as hypocratic in his views on disrespect (DISRESPEKT) as the Michigan Staee coach.

The real news is that Harbaugh has already set up a recruiting trip to the new planet.

I will bring this up for posterity to the end of my days. I still feel bad for Pluto.

It's okay. The more we learned about Pluto, the more we learned it's just not planet material. Better not deceive it into thinking it really can contend with the other big boys.
January 20th, 2016 at 1:02 PM ^
But we didn't even stop by to communicate with Pluto. Just blew right past once we saw the film up close.

The real news is that heliocentric theory that the universe revolves around the sun is wrong. The universe revolves around Harbaugh. You can't convince me otherwise.
