I wonder if they discussed the Gospel of Harbaugh?
January 19th, 2016 at 5:26 PM ^
It would be blasphemy if they didn't.

2) He is in there, if you are wondering if it is worth looking for him.
3) I'm not surprised by where he is.

I literally can't imagine any lesson in any subject where Harbaugh wouldn't be fascinated.
It could be a lesson about the optimal way to sharpen a pencil... he would be fixated.

listened to this on my drive home a few years ago and it had me fixated!

I heard he went into door-to-door typewriter sales. Business has been a littttttle slow, but should pick up any day now.

Great post!! I can definitely believe that Harbaugh was interested in the class. Thanks for sharing this tidbit with the board.

For when he takes the Oakland job.
Sidenote: I like when we are all friends on stuff like this and don't fight :D

that's kids got a timepiece that would make Flavor Flav jealous.

He's giving the finger to Urban Meyer. That's why Harbaugh is smiling.

"Then, Coach Harbaugh outlined his personal belief system. By the end of class, everyone had converted..."
January 19th, 2016 at 5:41 PM ^
His "personal belief system" is rooted in Catholicism. De La Salle is a Catholic High School, so I assume there were very few there he had to convert. He was probably "preaching to the choir" as the saying goes. (But no religion on the board please, or am I too late?)
January 19th, 2016 at 5:50 PM ^
... you're taking his comment a little too literally.

Yes, no religion on the board, per se. However, to the degree that the beliefs of the coaches and athletes are out there publicly, in the current news cycle, it's at least of some interest to some of us.
In John Bacon's book, he talks some about the faith life of many guys on the team, and how important that is to them, particularly many of the black players.
Interestingly, I don't know if you remember the coverage (it was here on the board), but it becomes clear that some of the faith perspectives and support for the athletes on the team were extremely important to Rashan Gary's mom, and to Rashan. It's none of my business, and I'm not asking, but I could easily believe that while you'll never see it covered publicly, faith is going to be an important factor for some of the recruits as they consider where to go to school. They would want to be on a team where they aren't the only one who has a strong faith life.

The 30 for 30 on Bill McCartney went in depth on his recruiting philosophy. He definitely used his faith when recruiting. Many of his rival coaches tried to use it against him. I don't think Harbaugh is as outwardly religious as McCartney (who is? The Pope, maybe?) but he's not shy about it either.

of non Catholics go to Catholic school, especially the athletes that get recruited.
January 19th, 2016 at 6:25 PM ^
I went to a Catholic grade school. About 10% of the class was non-Catholic. Many parents send their kids to Catholic schools because, in many cases, they are perceived to provide a better education.
January 19th, 2016 at 8:14 PM ^
Went K-12. It's a fairly small number of non-Catholics in most elementary/middle schools because the cost-benefit vs public schools if the religion component doesn't matter is usually not overwhelmingly high. By the time you get to high school it might be nearing half the school depending on the area
January 19th, 2016 at 5:31 PM ^
if this is world religions class for the IB program, great program for high school students!
January 19th, 2016 at 5:32 PM ^
Getting a visit from Harbaugh and Dantonio must be like polar opposites. One likes everything and the other doesn't like anything.
January 19th, 2016 at 5:36 PM ^
Actually Mork loves not liking anything. It's an important nuance.
