Twitter reacts to Harbaugh's hiring on Don Brown (Hint: You will love this)

Thought this deserved its own thread.

SI is reporting that #Michigan has hired #BC's Don Brown as Wolverines new defensive coordinator. That'd be a terrific hire for Jim Harbaugh

— Bruce Feldman (@BruceFeldmanCFB) December 20, 2015

RIP Big Ten. Brown is a mad scientist. https://t.co/8vOCiBuDFl

Crazy thing about Don Brown's defenses is even going back to UConn they've been insanely good and never paired with even a decent offense.

— Mark Ennis (@MarkEnnis) December 20, 2015

Everyone can have their own opinion but I don't think there's a better defensive coordinator in college football. https://t.co/FuKWGBFFU3

— Mark Ennis (@MarkEnnis) December 20, 2015

Just to reiterate what @MarkEnnis has been saying, Don Brown is that good. I'd take him over Venables, Smart, anyone. He's the best.

— M. Ryan Hayes (@mRyanHayes) December 20, 2015

Michigan made an outstanding hire in Don Brown as defensive coordinator. About as good a hire as they could have made.

— Justin Rowland (@RowlandRIVALS) December 20, 2015

#Wolverines just hit a major home run in the DC hire of Don Brown. Grand Slam.

— Mike Farrell (@rivalsmike) December 20, 2015

Other than Virginia Tech retaining Bud Foster, Don Brown (Michigan) and Greg Schiano (Ohio State) two best staff additions on defense.

Michigan got really good today with the hiring of Coach Don Brown! The B10 should be afraid, very afraid...

— Steve Costello (@CoachStello) December 20, 2015

I have an absolute pit feeling in my stomach for having lost Don Brown. But great for him to go to Michigan. You can't say no to that job.

— Dan Rubin (@DanRubin12) December 20, 2015

Quick CFB note: Michigan reportedly hiring Don Brown as DC. That's a HUGE get. Brown consistently puts top defenses on the field.

— Brent Sobleski (@brentsobleski) December 20, 2015

Don Brown isn't a good defensive coordinator, he's a GREAT defensive coordinator. Huge for Michigan. https://t.co/PAA6PV3phZ

Michigan…this is what you are getting in Don Brown. Results. https://t.co/Z7WURpPP6R

Terrific hire by Harbaugh. Top D in the country in 2015. RT @ThayerEvansSI: Boston College DC Don Brown will be Michigan's new DC per source

— Bryan Fischer (@BryanDFischer) December 20, 2015

Don Brown has directed lots of kick-ass defenses paired with substandard Os at BC and UConn. That looks like a very good hire by Harbaugh.

and the game is a way to make a point we can all understand for a more general human notion. I suffer from migraines, btw. It's fine. Read it or not but I'm positive only one person did (reply below in app) and I also gave a positive but "we'll see" approach. The videogame HAS ZERO to do with anything but a reference point here. Why reply to something you clearly didn't read? Oh, snark and assumption of me being negative. The post-06 MGoBlog way. Carry on.

I hope it's not an issue and, again, really my biggest concern. Many have failed at the "more is better" assumption. I'll wait to judge later but I don't think it's a miss or whiffed hire. I think the opinions of his players, opposing coaches and ACC media speak volumes. Thanks again for actually reading before replying and the torture migraine it absolutely gave you.

I think this is true for coaches like Urbz, Mack Brown, Carroll, every coach at ND for the past 15 years and "the old ball coach". Just get the talent in the field and let them win the game.

I also think this was truly evident in the era before they cut scholarships. Bear Bryant's, Tim Osbourn, Joe Pa and even woody Hayes. They needed the best talent to win. In a new era with more parity, the coaches are exposed.

While I don't really agree that this is a significant concern for M's defensive coordinator hire, I did find your post interesting. It reminded me of an old book I read about the Eritrean rebels, who had to fashion pretty amazing machinery out of whatever they could find--something people living in resource-rich western environments would never be able to do. I think the book was called "Surrender or Starve" but I can't recall the author's name.

Think of what John Brown will get to do with some actual talent on the defensive side of the ball.  According to 24/7 composite rankings, Boston College has never had a top 50 recuiting class or any players that were above a 3 star player.

Excited for this hire!  Let's see what he can do.  #GoBlue

that Don Brown is an avid blitzer. nothing is better than making our corners man up and take it to the opposing wideouts. currently, being a corner I enjoy nothing more than being all alone on an island. makes playing out on the edge more personal. can't wait until we see the blitz combinations that this guy shows.

Does anyone know if he uses a zone blitz scheme or man blitz. I know there was talk of this when Greg was promoted to fill in for the bowl game. I see that he utilizes a lot of blitzes but couldn't find what scheme.

This guy sounds like the MacGyver of DCs, except instead of only having a paperclip, stick of gum, and string, Harbaugh will be giving him a rocket launcher, machine gun, and several sticks of dynamite.

There's a play starting at about 0:32 of the highlight video in the FootballPerspective tweet where all four BC rushers get to the QB at the same time.  I haven't seen that since the "Jimmy Clausen For Heisman" video.
