Friday POSBANG - Harbaugh elite recruiting Stanford vs Michigan

Submitted by RandomWolverine on

So, an interesting stat I was thinking about with 4 and 5 star guys (at least a partial measure of future success).

Jim Harbaugh at Stanford 2007 - 2011: 24 TOTAL 4 star recruits by 247 composite

Jim Harbaugh at UM 2015/2016 classes: 19 four or five star recruits (and still rolling)

POSBang - good things are coming.

I was very close to having my son's middle name be "Tecumseh" as in William Tecumseh Sherman.    Mainly because I hate the SEC.

I really don't get the STATE hate.  The Little Brother thing is played, but it is an apt metaphor.  You never want to lose to your little brother, but you want them to win when they are playing dirty cheating successionist Southerners.

How sweet would it be to have the first few playoff national champs being OSU, MSU, UofM, UofM, UofM, Iowa, UofM...    Having the B1G win year in an year out regardless of who it is (as long as we get our share) would be sweet.

Screw Saban.

Something else to think about: Stanford 2007 rushing offense: 3.0 ypc. 2008 rushing offense: 4.9 ypc. Michigan 2015 rushing offense: 4.1 ypc. 2016: ??? We have much more talent at O line, RB, and (presumably) a far more advanced passing offense. People have written off Smith too prematurely, I think.

I don't know what it's called, but I think Smith would be better in the type of running game (I think the Broncos used to run it with Elway and Terrell Davis) where the RB goes wide until the hole appears and they just plant their foot and hit the hole.  I think I've heard it called a 1 cut; not sure.

If Smith really is lacking the vision (as it appears he is), that might suit him better...as long as our OL does open up those holes.

You are underselling Toby Gerhart quite a bit.  He was the most prolific rusher in CA high school history, and rushed for 140 yards in the opener in 2007 before injuring his leg and missing the rest of the season.  Then he put up 1,100+ yards and 15 TD in 2008 and over 1,800 with 28 TD in 2009.  Dude was a beast and much better than what we've seen so far at the position here.
