Harbaugh wanted Viramontes to play QB
247's Clint Brewster reporting the exact opposite of what we've all heard/assumed, Jim Harbaugh had every intention of Vic Viramontes starting out at QB when he got to Michigan. Looks like he fell victim to some negative recruiting:
"We have been told that Viramontes was given bad information from a member of his camp that Michigan wouldn’t give him a shot at quarterback and he would immediately be a fullback or linebacker, which is completely false. Jim Harbaugh see's Viramontes as a high ceiling prospect at quarterback that has a lot of similar qualities to Colin Kaepernick."

Tebow here at Michigan. In college having a true threat running the ball is a huge advantage of just having a guy stand in the pocket. Someone like Vic based on what I saw this year would be awesome if he kept developing well enough to play qb at a high college level.

But without the weird praying.
December 8th, 2015 at 10:29 AM ^
If we can deal with Jehu Chesson dabbing, Antonio Brown slamming his nuts into a goal post, and Aaron Rodgers doing the discount double check, then we can deal with a dude taking a knee for a few seconds. After all, one Denard Robinson did it a fair number of times...
December 8th, 2015 at 11:02 AM ^
December 8th, 2015 at 1:06 PM ^
But Tebow was just a little more in your face with his religion than Denard. No?
December 8th, 2015 at 1:11 PM ^
Again, irrelevant. The comment was about "praying." Unless the OP was referencing a bunch of press conferences where Tebow started off by leading a prayer, then those two things aren't the same.
You're confusing praying (i.e. taking a knee after a TD) with a person's whole personality.
December 8th, 2015 at 10:38 AM ^
You kinda made it weird in here by saying that.
December 8th, 2015 at 10:40 AM ^
Over the top religious stuff makes me uncomfortable.
December 8th, 2015 at 10:48 AM ^
yeah, nobody prays.
December 8th, 2015 at 1:18 PM ^
people praying, taking a knee in the endzone, never had a problem with Denard. In fact Denard is my favorite player that's played at UM. All I said was that people who are overly religious make me uncomfortable. If you feel the need to always bring it up and talk about it I just kind of with draw. Good for anyone who has faith, they have that right. Just don't come up to me and hand me flyers and talk my ear off about how you found the right religion.
December 8th, 2015 at 10:53 AM ^
Yeah it's so awful that people take a couple of seconds on the field to express their joy/gratitude/etc. in a way that in no way affects you in any way shape or form, doesn't taunt opponents or appears overtly attention seeking. I mean, boy, that Denard was such a showboat and all............
December 8th, 2015 at 11:00 AM ^
December 8th, 2015 at 11:05 AM ^
I'm not fond of public displays of faith. For me, prayer is something that should be done at church or in private. Those that do it in front of an audience strike me as being attention seekers that want everyone to know how devout they are.
Also, I find the notion of thanking God for letting me catch that pass or score that touchdown to be vaguely offensive.
December 8th, 2015 at 11:34 AM ^
Look I'm not religious, but my wife makes me go and pretend to be on Sundays, so I'm with you on being uncomfortable with public displays of people showing how devout they are as it gets pretty obnoxious.
That said taking a knee and a couple of quiet moments to express gratitude doesn't seem like anything that should make someone uncomfortable. These are guys with immense physical gifts who are in a position of great joy because of those gifts and the opportunities they have earned/been given. If someone is religious then they are often of the opinion that this comes from God-given blessings and they are expressing gratitude for those blessings, it's not that some invisible man in the sky did it for them, but rather he made it possible.
If guys are leading hallelujahs or raising their hands into the air, speaking in tongues, etc. yeah that's strange, otherwise it's a variation on the eating thing or a ton of other celebrations and as far as I'm concerned do what you will.
December 8th, 2015 at 11:36 AM ^
I just think it's a little silly. And I get that I'm in the minority with my opinion.
I also don't like it when someone gets hurt or sick and then thanks God for their life being saved, when there's a doctor/surgeon right over there that they should be thanking. Same thing with natural disasters. It was a miracle that my house was spared from the tornado!
Really, what about your next door neighbor with the dead kids? Not deserving of a miracle?
And now I'm just ranting.
December 8th, 2015 at 11:25 AM ^
Then I hope you say the same negative things whenever someone mentions Denard Robinson.
For example, if someone on here says "I miss watching Denard Robinson play," then an appropriate response from you will be, "Yeah, except for his weird praying."
Also, different strokes for different folks. You may feel that praying should be done in private, but that doesn't make it "weird"...unless everything you disagree with is weird. Personally, I don't like sushi, so I guess everyone who eats sushi should eat it in the privacy of their own home and not weirdly do it in front of me.
December 8th, 2015 at 11:41 AM ^
national meme about "Tebowing". There's a website called www.tebowing.com. A Google search for "tebowing" returns 303,000 results.
Denard doing his thing is not even in the same ballpark as Tebow.
December 8th, 2015 at 11:44 AM ^
That's a weird argument.
So it's okay for Denard Robinson to publicly pray because there aren't 303,000 Google results about it.
Got it. Weird things are okay, just as long as other people don't pay too much attention.
December 8th, 2015 at 11:57 AM ^
I'm an asshole. Feel better?
/didn't like it when Denard did it either for the record.

No, I don't. I just saw someone eating sushi in public. But I guess I'll live.
December 8th, 2015 at 1:08 PM ^
Dude. That has absolutely nothing to do with the topic at hand.
December 9th, 2015 at 11:48 AM ^
You obviously haven't read the whole exchange.
December 8th, 2015 at 1:16 PM ^
Come over to your table to espouse the benefits of eating sushi? Did he hand you a book letting you know that you're going to burn in a lake of fire for ordering cooked fish instead?
December 8th, 2015 at 1:43 PM ^
No. Did Tim Tebow do those things to you? Or did you just observe him doing those things from afar, like I did with the fake guy eating fake sushi?
December 8th, 2015 at 12:43 PM ^
I thought Denard was not praying to God but talking to Timothy, his deceased brother? I'm sure Denard said that because that's how we all learned about Timothy.
Does that make a difference?

Tebow did more than just pray, though. That's what made his actions in the endzone take on a different tenor. Denard didn't wear "3-16" on his eye-black, for instance. He didn't talk constantly about his faith in pressers.
December 9th, 2015 at 11:49 AM ^
That's not how the conversation started. The conversation started with The Mad Hatter criticizing Tebow's "weird praying."
December 8th, 2015 at 1:09 PM ^
Hatter, I agree with you.

A QB that can play FB or LB with the name Victor. It doesn't get anymore Michigan than that.

Next board thread: "Will Brandon Peters now look around?"
Don't kill me guys, but I just read the thread about Vic Viramontezes. I hope he comes back and goes Blue! But I was thinking, is there any chance that Brandon Peters will look to take visits to other schools, now that it's clear Harbaugh was taking another quarterback? I'm not offering any new information and this is complete speculation out my butthole, but do you think that's possible? I'd hate lose him, I love his senior highlights and have a feeling he'll be starting next year! Based on 3 minutes of film Go Blue!
December 8th, 2015 at 10:30 AM ^
Are you kidding? Harbaugh has a 2 QBs per year policy. He did it last year with Gentry and Malzone (plus 2 transfer QBs).
December 8th, 2015 at 10:31 AM ^
I don't think Peters is going anywhere. Besides, there really isn't a top school out there that doesn't already have a top-flight QB in place...except maybe LSU, and I can't see Peters at LSU.
December 8th, 2015 at 10:43 AM ^
Peters is the Gatorade Player of the Year in his state and a possible Army All-American National Player of the Year. He went to several camps after committing. He went to a satellite camp. I don't think he is really the type that is afraid of competing.
December 8th, 2015 at 10:33 AM ^
There's hasn't been any talk of him taking any visits. And I believe he's still enrolling early. If he was going to flip, there would've been whispers by now.
December 8th, 2015 at 11:11 AM ^
You may want to keep that speculation in your butt hole.
December 8th, 2015 at 11:20 AM ^
Sarcasm gentleman. I was positing that a future board thread by a new poster would speculate Peters would consider leaving. This is why the spelling errors. And the exclamation points and "feeling" based on 3 minutes of film that a true freshman will start despite a stacked QB roster.
Wake up fellas.

Clearly there was a lack of communication and a breakdown. Someone said something to Victor and he either interpreted it as from coaches and shouldn't or it came from a coach but was articulated poorly. Either way let's hope we get him back.
Just because inside information turns out incorrect or bad in the end doesn't mean it was bad information at that point in time.
