I only caught the last 5 minutes. They looked good closing it out. Rebound margin was 36-32 for NC State. The way Patrick was talking, I expected it to be worse than that.

Doyle would look a lot better if he could hang onto the damn ball.

It's been so fast, it's hard not to be optimistic. A few people considered him a high end recruit, but that was far from a coonsensus opinion. Most analysts and fans seem to have greatly underestimated Wagner and Robinson.

Rivals guys said he'd have been a borderline 5* (top 40ish) had he played in the States.

How unusual is it for a DIII player to transfer to a DI school--power 5 no less--and become a major contributor at the DI level? I don't have extensive knowledge of college basketball, but I've never heard of such a thing. Pretty incredible if Robinson can keep this up!

but i don't know any DIII

Yeah, I never thought he was some scrub who got lucky. He was a tall kid who could shot but chose Williams for a variety of non-basketball reasons. He's probably never going to be a star, but he always had the ability to play at this level.

Yeah, I saw that too--Ivy League interest but no offers. Had an offer from DII Merrimack College in Massachusetts. So obviously he was a very good high school player, but it's not just the fact that he transferred and was offered a scholarship--he's already one of the better players on a pretty good team, and he could break the starting lineup soon. That's a huge leap!

Really have to wonder why he had no D1 offers. His size and shooting ability alone should've gotten him some low P5 offers even.
December 2nd, 2015 at 12:36 PM ^
he grew like 3 inches his senior year. so if he was only 6'4 or 6'5", i could see him getting no D1 offers. he's not very athletic. a more athletic zach novak and stu douglas got very very few offers.

Back in the late 90s when there were 9 ACC teams, Thursday night got dubbed the NC State Invitational for a while.

He meant an ACC team that will make the NCAA Tourney.

I was wrong about Robinson earlier in the year. Kid can flat out play. He might be on the cusp of supplanting Dawkins for the starting role.

Agree. It seems like he can't stay focused on offense and defense for long periods at a time. I think he could still be really good but he has a lot of stuff to work on both on offense and defense.

Or maybe played it so well that you can't remember?

and Robinson. Which one starts may not have much impact on their minutes.

Sauce should have stayed in college another year.
But hey, he is cashing checks playing for the worst team in NBA history!

He is a rare case where going lower in the draft would have been better.
His skills work with a more established team.
If you play good on a more established team, you can manipulate yourself into getting a huge payday the way money is handed out in the NBA.
December 1st, 2015 at 9:39 PM ^
It's also possible that on a good team he might be nailed to the bench and never go on to get that payday.
It's hard to fault a guy for leaving when he was a lottery pick.
