Here's the interaction between @Lynn_Henning and Coach Dantonio at today's presser: pic.twitter.com/ijf7zmDhFV

Gameday also went to watch James Madison play. I don't think many people are interested in what the Dukes do. College Gameday is more about entertainment now and less about good football games. They have made that obvious with all their new stunts and gimmicks each week.
November 18th, 2015 at 11:52 AM ^
That's true on certain Saturdays. just I disagree that a game between #3 and #9 has no national relevance nor is it getting any attention.

My favorite part is that when Dantonio suggests it shouldn't be about UM/OSU, the reporter cackles and then says 'no seriously'....
The timing of the clip is great, even if the question came from an MSU beat writer it plays like he dismisses Dantonio out of hand.

you have to excuse Lynn, he's still heartbroken over Don Kelly

Pisses me off! Trying to be so cool talking fast when he picks the next clue. It's got to piss off Alex Trebek too. "This is my show bitch! I set the pace!"

You're a smug one Mr. Dantonio.

Here he is at Big Ten media days, squaring off vs. Jim Harbaugh:

Must be a shitty week for him after they got inexplicably bumped up five spots in the polls. Tough to whine about being disrespected.

Think about it for a moment, Michigan - MSU would have been an ESPN2 game 10 years ago that may not have even been televised in some parts of the country.
This year College Game Day came to Ann Arbor for the nationally televised game of the day, AND College Game Day is going to Columbus for the MSU - OSU game this week (not to mention Game Day in East Lansing for the Oregon game).
Has anyone else had Game Day three times this season? (They've been to Tuscaloosa twice.)

Harbaugh are no longer coaching in the league along with another unseen coach from Maryland. And the seat probably is pretty hot for Rutgers coach Kyle Flood as well. How often does that happen in any league? Probably, never.
November 17th, 2015 at 1:57 PM ^
It has been all about Michigan and OSU for good reason. I mean, State has been relavent in football for maybe 20 percent of the time that they have been a program. They haven't won, or even played in, a national championship game during their best decade of football.
November 17th, 2015 at 5:13 PM ^
The took advantage of the SEC's segregation era politics to grab talented black kids from the south and gave them an opportunity at a good education and high level football competition. It's the same reason why Grambling was a football powerhouse. If Grambling could've played I-A football, they would've notched some impressive wins as well.
Since Dantonio's been there, they have only two B1G titles (one Rose Bowl). OSU and Wisconsin have more titles than Sparty during the Dantonio years. As crappy as we've been under RichRod and Hoke, if we somehow win the conference this year, they'll still have only one more league title than us since Carr retired.

Think that Groucho Mark has achieved more at MSU than Bo ever did.... The delusion among that fanbase is monumental. Emphasis on the mental.

Dantonio has to be thinking that it would be nice to coach at a place where his school is involved in his state's primary rivalry. Like, I don't know, South Carolina-Clemson.
November 17th, 2015 at 2:21 PM ^
He is smug, but he's also a college football coach, so it's not surprising. The only thing he hasn't quite figured out is to have any sense of humor or levity in his approach to speaking with other humans. Harbaugh is just as intense, but he seems able to still interact better.
November 17th, 2015 at 2:49 PM ^
I have heard from a number of sources that Dantonio is not at all like that away from the media. It seems to be more of like a WWE persona that he has taken on. At times it really does look like an act that he is trying to maintain.

to try and get these stupid reactions out of Carr, Rodriguez and Hoke, so maybe the focus has turned.
November 17th, 2015 at 2:51 PM ^
Some of the Carr moments that I can remember were particularly epic when it came to reactions to questions. Actually, the on-field incident in 2003....I think he was being interviewed on the way to the locker room at halftime by Todd Harris and Harris asked him about his use of timeouts at the end of the half to extend a drive or something like that and that was the famous "Why would you ask a stupid question like that?" incident.
November 17th, 2015 at 3:48 PM ^
was a kneel down from our own 38 or so with about a minute on the clock with a timeout in the bag. It perhaps should not have been the first question asked but it was a legit question. Carr apologized for it after the game and said that he should not have responded in the way that he did. He also complimented Harris on asking "a great question" going into halftime of the Rose Bowl that year. There were some great moments in Carr smugness but that wasn't one of them. He did not come off looking very good (particularly when it looked like OSU was going to come back for a while in the second half).
November 17th, 2015 at 2:35 PM ^
Could you imagine if a reporter tried this with Harbaugh? He would punch him with his eyeballs.

Of all programs I don't think we can be throwing stones about being overrated at the end of September: Exhibit A - the last decade.
November 17th, 2015 at 8:03 PM ^
You may be thinking of April Final Fours - as in, 8 months ago? Or did you stop watching basketball after the Wolverines boldly blazed a postseason trail all the way to the quarterfinals of the Big Ten Tournament? Talk about "getting the job done" - you were done before almost everyone else in the country!
But going back to football, let's face it: you lost at home to a team missing 3 starters in the secondary, 3 starting offensive linemen, a starting linebacker, and a starting defensive tackle. Would UM even get to .500 under such circumstances? Jimbo is probably packing his bags already - if he can't beat Coach Dantonio under such favorable conditions, how's he going to fare next year?
November 18th, 2015 at 11:56 AM ^
I hate Sparty like poison, but using the words "final fours" and "a school that can't get the job done" makes you look dumb.
November 17th, 2015 at 2:52 PM ^
The Dantonio "disrespect" obsession/meme on this board has gone way overboard. He's playing the hand he's dealt.
Losing to MSU sucks. Losing the way we lost sucks worse. If you have personal issues "in real life" with terrible people who happen to also be MSU fans, I'm sorry; you should remove yourself from as many of those interactions as possible. But the ritualistic Dantonio voodoo doll stabbing has to stop. Posts like this show that certain Michigan fans are AT LEAST as obsessed with MSU as we claim they are with us. LET IT GO. #cumongman
Chargers QB Jim Harbaugh refused to answer questions on Wednesday from San Diego Union-Tribune beat writer Jim Trotter, who wore a 49ers sweatshirt to the team's practice. Trotter wrote about the incident in Thursday's Chargers notebook, but he did not name himself as the reporter. Harbaugh said it was "pathetic" a reporter would wear the logoed sweat shirt. Harbaugh: "I don't talk to anybody in a San Francisco 49ers shirt. How could you wear that out here? ... Seriously, man. How could you wear that out here to a Chargers facility?" When Trotter said he was not employed by the Chargers, Harbaugh said, "Well, I don't answer any questions from anybody wearing the enemy's jersey".

Clearly not.
November 17th, 2015 at 3:20 PM ^
You don't see the difference between a reporter wearing an opposing team's jersey to an interview and a question from a reporter that may possibly be construed as trolling?
November 17th, 2015 at 4:01 PM ^
What about "some people have said that Michigan is not an elite job anymore".
Brady Hoke Answer: "Who says that?" /incredulous / head shake
When a reporter asks a question like "Hey, don't you guys suck?" or "Isn't it true that no one cares about your team?" ... Coaches will handle it different ways. But I don't blame them for being annoyed.
Jim Harbaugh literally called it "disrespectful" to get asked about other coaching jobs this year:
http://www.sbnation.com/college-football/2015/10/20/9574379/jim-harbaug…
As LSA noted, Lloyd Carr literally responded with "Why would you ask a dumb question like that?".
Chip Kelly, to cite a random example, just makes stuff up:

You see, I don't like Mark Dantonio. I never told you to like him. I find him to be a bit annoying with the media, but then of course I do... He coaches one of Michigan's rivals and has won altogether WAY TOO MANY football games for them, especially the head to head match ups.
Maybe you know him personally or maybe his interactions with the media are enough for you to believe he's a "douchebag" and a "dickbag". But I just don't see it dude and I don't think its a good look for you (those comments or this OP).
I'm sure some people agree with me, I'm sure others don't. I'm obviously not going to change your opinion, but I wanted to speak up for those lurking to show that we don't all share your opinion.
