I thought the play calling was vanilla and they used a lot of players early. I'm fine with that against this level of competition, but I wouldn't be happy against a team with a pulse.
I didn't like the passiveness at the end of the first half (not going for it on 4th and 1, then not calling timeout after a negative play). I thought it set the tone for the lethargic second half.

I was kind of baffled why Harbaugh didn't call timeout to conserve time and get the ball back. It would have been a good chance to run a 2 minute offense drill if nothing else. Very strange.

Just like I refused to read too much into a 35-7 win over a bad team where everyone was going bonkers, I refuse to read too much into a 28-7 win over a bad team where everyone is crying.

Jim's doing such a great job that Mack Brown called him John.
I can't even.

That's like the only play that got us yards against Utah. It's a 100% necessary constraint in this offense.

Cupcake game that we treated as such.
I'm curious to see how the rb's are used going forward. Love Deveon as the sledge hammer, but he has obvious limitations.
Ty showed great vision and patience, but on the 79 yarder he didn't look particularly fast. And doesn't look like he's really breaking tackles either. Still, he looked better today.
Drake got a lot more touches. I think ultimately he splits carries with Deveon unless Ty builds on this performance.
I'm also hoping for a QB controversy soon. Speight is completely unknown to me, but those two bombs he threw were where they were supposed to be, if not on time. It seems like he can make throws Rudock can't. Guess I just really want someone to take Rudock's job.

Wasn't impressed by Johnson today.

I missed the 2nd half, but the most disappointing thing about the first half was no doubt Rudock, Lots of late passes or just badly overthrown. Seems like this would have been the perfect opponent to start hitting some medium range passes. The deep throws appear not even an option anymore. This team could still win 9 games, but probably not if Rudock doesn't hit his stride this coming week.

The best teams play up to the competition. Not surprised with a conversative gameplan and mediocre performance. Is Ohio State also mediocre based on their performance today? We'll have to stay tuned...

After rewatching the game...it felt like the vanilla playcalling was intentional. A boring win - even moreso than last week. The BYU game will be an interesting test to see how far we've come from the Utah game. With it being at home - I think we pull off an 8-10 point win.
As for yesterday - Smith had, by far, his worst game of the year. People who say Utah aren't accounting for our OL play and only see the gaping hole he missed in a loss. He ran tough and got yards where Green and Isaac couldn't/wouldn't.
I keep saying it over and over...all 3 guys are good backs, it just depends on what the OL is doing. If they're blocking well - Green is the best back. If there are cut back lanes and creases - give Isaac the rock. If the OL sucks and you need positive yardage, YAC, and extra effort - it's Smith all day.
Green and Issac would've been best yesterday because there were pockets and creases to run to, and in those a move or two would break off a decent gain. Smith just gets into those pockets and pushes the pile forward 2 yards. That's AWESOME if there's no crease to break out of...but when there is, he's giving away yards.
Rudock is a robot. When he's got time, when he's clean...he throws a GREAT ball. It's so accurate. Something we haven't seen since flashes of Mallett and Henne in '07.
Any pressure on Rudock and he can make plays, but he can also go completely haywire.
He also needs a perfect route by a WR...if the WR is wrong, he can't make up the difference and adjust.
Speaking of our WRs, they're all VERY good #2, we have 3-4 guys that are legit #2 WRs. We have no playmaking ability. No one can adjust to the ball in the air and come down with it.
Darboh is a possession WR. Chesson is your burner. We need the Braylon to their Avant and Breaston.
The OL is the OL...it's not changing all year and we can only hope they stay healthy and improve every game.
I wish I could see a Bryan Mone on this DL...regardless, these guys are AWESOME. If we could get more for the Ojemudia/RJS spot, they'd be unreal. I think they need to move Charlton over there for some snaps opposite Wormley on the other side.
LBs are steady, need to see more with all the experience they have.
DB depth is very solid at this point - Lewis is an all-american calibur CB. He's in that Leon Hall/Marlin Jackson territory right now.
