Rutgers WR Leonte Caroo charged with slamming woman on concrete

Submitted by Wolverine Devotee on

Well, there was a thread on this the other day that Rutgers only player of any note, Leonte Caroo, was suspended indefinitely for an indisclosed incident after their loss to Washington State.

Details have come on and they are not good.

Caroo has been charged with an attack on a woman outside Rutgers' stadium after their game.

(Caroo) was charged with assaulting the woman, with whom he had been romantically involved, by “picking her up and slamming her down on a concrete surface, injuring her left hip, both palms, left elbow and left side of the head"

Despite the turmoil, Athletic Director Julie Hermann expressed her “unwavering support” for the football program at practice Monday as the team prepared to face Penn State on Saturday. The program had no comment on any of the developments Tuesday, spokesman Hasim Phillips said.

I know she probably has to say that, but in light of this and other recent news, you would think that internally there has to be some sort of "what the eff is going on over there?" discussion about the football program every day. The fear I have about Rutgers is that the wrong people seem to be involved in these discussions.

if you're a Rutgers football player and you haven't thrown a woman on concrete or ended up in jail, kudos. you've managed to avoid being a terrible human being, unlike multiple teammates of yours.

but in all seriousness, is it not a little shocking that THIS many Rutgers players have been involved in shady crap? one or maybe two guys, okay, but this is getting excessive. one has to wonder how good the school's system is for making sure they're recruiting guys who have decent characters.

These ladies are not good people.

Caroo is pleading not guilty, so you think maybe we might reserve judgement until all the evidence comes out?  I know. Obviously a grown man who plays football has no right to defend himself physically.

This "hostess", ex-girlfriend of his started a physical assault on both Caroo and his new girlfriend.

Then she's quoted as saying "I'm just a girl, 107 lbs" and "he shouldn't have piled drived me into the concrete!"

My question is this: In this world of purportedly equality under the law that we're trying to foster on college campuses (LOL), maybe a 107 lbs hostess can take personal accountability and not make physical threats and assaults in the first place, and otherwise stop trying to write checks she can't cash?

Maybe she was beating the shit out of his girlfriend.  He pulls her off to break up the fight, she's still swinging, throwing punches, scratching, biting, or whatever, causing him to drop her.

That doesn't sound like a victim to me, unless he really did slam her into the ground.  I'm sure there were plenty of witnesses.

I'm not supporting his claim here, but disliking that woman (or hostesses) does not mean he dislikes women. I don't like how we automatically excuse a woman for doing something shitty just because a man did something shitty to her, then label anyone who has anything negative to say about her as sexist. They can both be shitty people.

Note: I'm not talking about this particular situation. I don't know what happen, and most likely, neither do you so let's stop jumping to conclusions.

This is the problem with the way things are reported sometimes. He may have slammed her, he may have just pulled her off of his girlfriend and she landed weird. But pulling out terms like victim blaming right away like that skews all narratives that way. There is no victim yet, wait for the police and courts to gather more information and figure that out before asserting so.

Either there is or isn't already a victim, awaiting the verdicts or opinions of police or courts, two institutions that have proven to be corrupt and untruthful en mass for their entire histories in this country, isn't going to change that. It might change your opinion, but the facts of what happened already happened regardless of further findings.

Caroo may be a massive a-hole who physically assaulted a woman.

OR

he may have been a guy breaking up a fight, and when you are breaking up a fight, s*$# happens by accident.

The constant rush to judgement on the internet, where people pile up to condemn someone and decide they are the "Worst Person In History" TM has just started to piss me off.  Sure, this guy may utterly suck.  But how about we wait and find out from some of the witnesses what actually happened before we decide he should be run out of NJ on a rail huh?  Of COURSE his ex-girlfriend is saying bad stuff about him, duh.  She's not a reliable source of info about the incident, nor is he.   Let's get a bunch of info from the independent witnesses at the scene and then see where things stand before we decide this guy is a full-blown woman batterer.

The only way to treat the contaminated culture in the Rutgers Athletic Department is going to be some serious housecleaning at all levels. They are going to be a negative asset to the B1G for the coming years even if they make the appropriate changes.

Is Rutgers going to have enough people to play in a couple of weeks?

I'm sure there is more to the story than the blurb, but this is terrible.  You should never hurt someone like that, or really any way.

A lot of crap has gone down in Columbus but I don't ever remember a player, even allegedly, assaulting one of their recruiting hostesses.

I think Rutgers might be breaking new ground here. There's been nasty business elsewhere over issues of consent where hostessing is concerned, but I can't think of anything quite like this.

There has to be a viable Rutgers replacement out there somewhere. This is getting embarrassing to our historically excellent academic/athletic conference.

I know all this Rutgers stuff looks terrible and makes the conference look bad etc. That said it doesn't hold a candle to what happened at PSU. It's not even in the same ballpark. Still bad news but if penn state survived without being removed Rutgers is going nowhere. They can just be a more criminal further east Purdue esque cellar dweller. Also lets all hope we put a beatdown on them this year.

Very sad. Wrong. Just wrong. Wonder how long he has been shielded and protected and praised and allowed to do this kind of nonsense. Hard to understand why he hasn't been released from the team, for conduct unbecoming of a Rutgers player and the Rutgers team. Oh, because this is Rutgers, not Michigan. Still very sad.

Way to take what was likely a future in the NFL and flush it right down the toilet, kid. If the allegations are true, he'd probably be lucky if he avoided jail time.

Can we please kick Rutgers out of this conference? At least Maryland has good basketball. Rutgers has amounted to nothing of value for the Big Ten. Should've grabbed Syracuse when we had the chance if we wanted the NY market.
