Rutgers trails FCS Norfolk State 7-0 two minutes into the game.

Rutgers dismisses both starting corners.
Early in the game, Norfolk has 75 yards passing and 0 rushing.
Coincidence? :-)

Kyle Flood was at least out in front of it - if not mixed up a bit in it because the player he allegedly made inquiries about was Barnwell, as I recall - and saying that he believed this had brought the team closer together and that they would be ready despite recent adversity.
So of course they've just gone down 7-0 to Norfolk State - it is early yet in the game though.

So is Jim Delany supposed to forsee off-the-field infractions when considering potential teams for realignment?

UConn would've been a much better addition. You get the NY market, and at least they have something to offer athletically. Awesome basketball school. And I'm assuming the academics are at least as good as Rutgers.

That's been a requirement to get an invitation. There are also not in an adjacent state, which is also a stated requirement.

This is one of the few times I can come to the defense of Delaney and his clown haircut. Sure UConn and Syracuse are similar alternatives.
Personally, I'm glad we have Rutgers on the schedule. The three game stretch prior to Rutgers is tough. Northwestern and Michigan State at home, then at Minnesota.

No, Syracuse is not the top team, not even close. Per Nate Silver, Rugers is by far the number one draw in the NYC TV market:

New Jersey also produces as many football recruits as Michigan and Pennsylvania. Meanwhile, New York and Connecticut are among the least fertile football recruiting territories in the country. Syracuse and UConn are fine schools but neither is AAU. Yes they have top notch basketball programs but if you follow conference realignment that carries zero weight. Add it up and Rutgers was EASILY the best choice of the three.

when we expanded. Syracuse basketball is in trouble now. We'd be paying a lot more attention if either was in the Big Ten. I'm certain they would have also proven to be unpopular choices.

They had Carroo, a WR who maybe could have gone early, a DT and an OL.
