San Diego Union-Tribune: Frank Clark attacked Philip Rivers

Submitted by GoBlueinEugene on

Chargers offensive players were visibly angry with a Seahawks rookie defensive lineman, Frank Clark, saying he attacked Philip Rivers in the pile after another Seahawks defender had sacked the Chargers quarterback in the second quarter Saturday.

I'd think once his linemen see the video they'll question Rivers for this b.s.  It simply didn't happen and Rivers made them look foolish both during the game and in the media afterwards.  The rest of the league will also notice that Rivers falsly created a headline against a rookie who is playing for his life.  This won't be received well internally by the other players.

I was watching this play live as it happened and I literally saw nothing from Frank. The only thing I saw him do was land on top of Rivers and put his hands up to avoid further confrontation. Rivers is a good quarterback, but he's been known to be a bit dramatic during times in his career. I hope teams don't try to instigate Frank like this throughout his career because of his past issues.

When I saw the headline on ESPN that just said something like "Seattle Player Attacks Rivers" the thought was "Please don't be Frank Clark."

Really dislike RIvers.  Always complaining and not winning.  Most of his stats are garbage time stats.  Never really impressed that he got so many yards by throwing to one of the greatest tightends in the history of football during garbarge time.

1) Philip Rivers may be one of the top-5 least respected players in the league, and 2) this sounds contrived to establish (or embellish) an anti-Clark narrative, and I doubt it'll be the last such attempt by an opponent.

maybe something happened that couldn't be seen by the camera. He said there are a lot of emotions involved which certainly doesn't help his case but it appears that Rivers started it by grabbing his jersey regardless.

This one seems pretty milquetoast. But I am mostly bummed about this so-called "attack" because the way it has been depicted makes me suspect that Clark's past (reprehensible) actions will continue to haunt him as a Pro. I would hate to see him painted as a "dirty" player by the media. Unlike Suh, Clark would have a hard time brushing it off since he will probably not be as dominant a player. I just hope he gets a fair shake before people start demonizing him as a player.
