AP preseason poll out: OSU #1, Michigan 2 votes
The preseason AP poll is out. In short...

Their QB was a highly ranked guy coming out of high school. He went to Prattville High School in Alabama, and he was actually originally committed to playing at the University of Alabama. His career completion percentage sets right around 52% but I think he threw 18 touchdowns to 6 interceptions last year, so he has a good ratio there. I also think he passed for just over 1500 yards and ran for over 1000. If he can work on his completion percentage and take another step up in his second year as a starter, he should have a big year.

Michigan fans would enjoy a comeback story. The rest of the country will continue to be bombarded with Harbaugh stories and they'll hate it.

Fair enough. But I think the media will use enjoy the use of the comeback story - maybe to the chagrin of media consumers.

They were 11-3 last year, lost by 2 to Florida State in the ACC championship game, and convincingly beat Mississppi State in their bowl game (who had been ranked top 10 all season). Not sure what they have in the way of returning starters, but they were a top 15ish team last year, so seeing them that high is not surprising.
EDIT: Oops, this was meant as a reply to the guy above who asked what Georgia Tech's deal was.

Random Question: When does Bob Stoops leave Oklahoma. Sure they will get their 8-9 wins, but you know he's blowing a game at home. Seems like new blood may be needed in Norman.

I have no problem playing OSU when they are #1.
Time to spoil another season for them.

Yes, OSU is an obvious choice for #1, but lots of other teams will get shaken out after 5 or 6 games. If we get off to a good start, we'll move into the rankings, and by November, things are usually pretty well sorted by wins, at least among Power 5 teams.

Alabama I'm not really sure about. Their defense was completely embarrassed by OSU and Auburn last year, and outside of Derrick Henry, their offense is a complete unknown this year. As in no proven playmakers.
And of course, it wouldn't be a preseason poll without Notre Dame being ranked way too high yet again. But outside of the Clemson, USC and Stanford games, they've got a pretty manageable schedule. Still, it wouldn't shock me in the slightest if they went 8-5 to finish off the year. Again.

I would like for us to look prepared on the field.
I would like for our coaching staff to look in control of the team.
I would like to not laugh with sadness after our team wins dumb games like PSU ad NU.
That will be nice. Go Blue. We are gonna be good sooner than later.

SEC team's in the mix but then it's the AP poll. Much better to be ranked low early on. After 2 weeks there will be some wild swings in team's rankings both ways. Michigan has nowhere to go but up.

I have a bigger problem with Auburn at #6 than Notre Dame at #11.

How, and Why are Auburn (8-5), Arkansas (7-6), ranked above Missouri (10-3), and Tennesse is on spot lower than Missouri and Tennesse went 7-6 last year...Missouri is in the same conference as Auburn and won two more games last year but they are like 18 spots lower...

And MSU is in the top 5 with UM unranked. What has happened to college football? I miss the 90s and early 00s.

Regarding Michigan's poor standing in the poll....just going to look that much better when we end up in the top 25 at the season's end

Part of me agrees, but the game is played by the lines and the QB. They have impressive lines on both sides of the ball and a good QB. I think that's all they need, but they aren't gonna beat OSU if both teams are ready. Their key game is Oregon. If they beat Oregon, they deserve the ranking, if they don't, then they don't. We shall see. Then again, I didn't see 6-12 (minus ND) play that much. It's a shame they don't play ND, that would be another good comparison.

I feel like the voters are nervous to give Michigan any votes until they actually see the team in a real game.
As someone stated earlier, a win against Utah would probabaly allow Michigan to jump back in the Top 25.

All the pressure is on our rivals to live up to higher and higher expectations. I think the assumed victories at the Big House are more than a bit premature.......

Really? Recent history has shown otherwise.
